If you’re a huge fan of FX’s Justified, you might not want to read this post.
I don’t know that the below casting scoop suggests a big spoiler, but it might. So if you want to be totally cautious, stop now.
Justified star Natalie Zea has landed a series regular role in Kevin Williamson’s untitled buzzworthy Fox pilot.
She’ll play Claire Matthews, the ex-wife of serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) who finds herself in the middle of a nightmare when he escapes from prison. Kevin Bacon is also in the cast as an FBI agent hunting Carroll in the Warner Bros. TV drama, about a serial killer who uses technology to create a murderous cult.
What does this mean for Zea’s role on Justified, where she plays Winona Hawkins? Maybe nothing. Sometimes actors work two shows, but not often. One compromise option is sometimes a character will downshift from series regular to a recurring character. Frankly, as a Justified fan myself, I rather not know. This issue came up earlier this pilot season when a certain Walking Dead actor landed a role in Frank Darabont’s new project, causing rampant online speculation that this person’s character would get killed off.

Together with Midnight Sun and maybe Chicago Fire this pilot gathered the most interesting cast for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is shaping up to be a real interesting project!
ReplyDeleteWell as a Justified fan I actually really don't mind. I really didn't like Natalie's character. I don't really have specific reasons why, I guess I just didn't click with Winona. Mostly I found her annoying and useless.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Justified fan who wouldn't mind Winona downgraded to recurring character or killed off/leaves.
ReplyDeleteLikewise.
ReplyDeleteShe has played her part and now needs to move on. At least for a while....
Once Raylan is stable again (if?), then she can return to f#$% up his life. XD
This is starting to sound better and better..
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with her but the character is a bit extraneous. The show certainly wouldn't hurt if she was gone.
ReplyDeleteI also don't think being cast in a pilot necessarily suggests something about the fate of Winona. It all really depends on shooting schedules.
As much as I like Natalie Zea and her character Winona, I suppose I wouldn't mind if the character (along with the baby) was cleared from the playing field. It really irked me that she got back together with Raylan (who was exactly the same person she married) and then flaked on him all over again. Raylan needs someone tougher who can cope with his career and his ties to Harlan. I guess it's too bad Ava's moral compass broke a long time ago.

ReplyDeleteI liked Ava with Raylan, she had spunk. And I wish they had more scenes now. Not in a romantic way cause it wouldn't fit her character to go back to him after he cheated on her plus like you said she's crossed the line as far as what's morally acceptable.
I liked Winona but if she was to become a guest character instead of a regular it wouldn't bother me too much
