Spoiler alert! Rather than stage a funeral to explain the upcoming exit of Paget Brewster's Emily — just a year after she faked her death — CBS' Criminal Minds has decided to end the season with a wedding. But who's getting hitched at the end of the tense two-hour finale is a secret. "We decided not to kill her off," explains executive producer Erica Messer. "We had already buried her, so that would have seemed repetitive." Instead, Emily will "leave the BAU to pursue other things, which mimics what Paget's pursuing in real life. If Paget ever wants to come back, this exit allows the door to be open."
Emily's last scene with her friends will be in one of their backyards, celebrating the intimate wedding of a longtime couple. "We wanted to balance out the darkness of the two hours and the bittersweetness of Paget leaving with the flip side of a really good thing," says Erica, who confirms that the couple exchanging vows will either be J.J. and Will or Garcia and Kevin. "They'll all have a really rough Saturday with a hostage situation and then a really lovely Sunday. To end a season on a happy note instead of blowing something up is very unusual for us."

ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's going to be JJ and Will - I guess they'd make the most sense, but to me, there have been a lot of hints dropped that things are not totally okay in their relationship. It wouldn't surprise me if JJ and Will broke up, and Kevin and Garcia get married, just because that's NOT what people will be expecting.

ReplyDeleteI kinda disagree with you. I think since we know Kevin will propose to Garcia this week even if it does not go well at first, the news that a wedding is taking place will kinda make people expect that Kevin and Garcia eventually sort it out and decide to tie the knot. Since Will and JJ hadn't been approached that way and like you said, there were hints things were not ok, people would expect them to break up instead of marrying. So talking about what people are NOT expecting this may just be the other way around.
ReplyDeletePersonally I don't see how a wedding between Garcia and Kevin would be "a happy note". I mean a wedding is always soothing, but I think in this case it'll be bittersweet for at least one of the characters. And how is Morgan keep on flirting shamelessly with a married woman? And Garcia and Kevin getting hitched would not please all of the fans. I think JJ/Will have a better chance to keeping everyone happy and together - fans and characters. But that is just my humble opinion.

ReplyDeleteGarcia was so paranoid of Kevin asking her to marry him,i have to go with JJ and Will.Maybe they will surprise everyone and someone completely unexpected will get married.
I think that it will be Garcia and Kevin. I think their wedding would be soooo sweet. Sorry to all those who feel differently but I hope Garcia and Morgan never get together. They have been best friends for so long and they have the perfect best friend, brother/sister relationship and I think it would ruin both characters if they were to get together.

Wow, a wedding!! Awesome. I hope Garcia and Kevin are gonna get married, they're such a cute couple. And I'd love to see a weird colorful nerd wedding!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, all signs are pointing to a Garcia/Kevin wedding. First the upcoming feared proposal, plus Nicholas Brendon has confirmed he'll be in two upcoming episodes in a row. So......come to your own conclusion.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would much prefer Will/JJ, since I think a Garcia/Kevin wedding will not only mess up the Morgan/Garcia banter&dynamic but also any chance of them getting together down the road.
And if "pleasing the fans" were the writers' top priority, we probably never would have gotten some of the best arcs this show ever produced. Example: If left up to the fans, would Reid have been kidnapped, tortured, and drug-addicted? Of course not.
