I'm following Shawn Ryan (the awesome creator of The Shield) on Twitter and recently he's been telling us about many actors joining the cast of his exciting new project, Last Resort, in contention for the 2012-2013 season on ABC.
Last week I reported that Camille de Pazzis and Scott Speedman were joining Andre Braugher, Autumn Reeser, Daniel Lissing and Daisy Betts, and it looks like this unusual ABC pilot will feature a great big ensemble.
Indeed, in the past week, no less than 6 actors joined the show : Robert Patrick, Dichen Lachman, Omid Abtahi, Max Adler, Matt Gerald and Bruce Davidson.
As of now there's not much information about their characters, except on Dichen Lachman's (absolutely fantastic as Sierra/Priya on Joss Whedon's Dollhouse — which is a really underrated show, by the way). She will play Tani, a native of the island Andre Braugher's military crew settles on.
— Genre of the show : action drama.
— Network the show would be on : ABC.
— Where the show takes place : Sainte Marina, a fictitious island (shot in Hawaii).
— Director of the pilot : Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale, Green Lantern).
— Creator/showrunner/executive producer : Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit, Terriers, The Chicago Code).
— Also writer on the show : Karl Gajdusek (Dead Like Me).
— Starring :

- Andre Braugher (Homicide, Men of a Certain Age) as Marcus Chaplin, the Captain of the rogue submarine.
- Robert Patrick (The X Files, The Unit).
- Scott Speedman (Felicity, Underworld) as Sam Kendal, Chaplin's Second-in-command.
- Autumn Reeser (The OC, No Ordinary Family) as Kylie Sinclair.

- Camille de Pazzis (Pigalle la nuit, Le premier jour du reste de ta vie) as Sophie Girard, a NATO french officer.
- Daisy Betts (Persons Unknown, Harry's Law) as Grace Shephard, a Lieutenant on the submarine.
- Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse, Being Human) as Tani, a native of the Sainte Marina island.
- Daniel Lissing (Crownies) as James King.
- Omid Abtahi (24, Homeland).
- Max Adler (Glee) - billed as a guest star on the pilot, possibly recurring afterwards.
- Matt Gerald (The Shield, The Unit).
- Bruce Davidson (Close to Home, Knight Rider).

Yes, I love Max Adler and Robert Patrick!
ReplyDeleteI like the cast but not completely sold on the concept
ReplyDeleteI will be checking it out,the cast alone is worth it..
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you, this is going to be one the major show of next season on networks.
ReplyDeleteABC is female-skewing but they would never dare to pass on a project
signed by Shawn Ryan, who's proven many times that he is one of the best
TV writers out there. He managed to have cable quality into his last
network series (The Chicago Code on FOX), a short-lived but fantastic
copshow (if only all copshows were done with such talent, network TV
would be a better place), so I'm not worried that this show is on ABC
and not on FX (where it clearly should belong though).
Sure, Revolution on NBC sounds ambitious and it is extremely hyped already, but I'm afraid it'll be the next FlashForward : awesome idea, awesome pilot but not enough material to maintain quality throughout a full season. However, I trust Shawn Ryan completely on the long haul. Everyone who's been reading the script of the pilot says it's fantastic and full of potential, I don't doubt that for a second.
I say, it could very much be the next Lost (without all the fantasy stuff). There are many similarities already :
- Last Resort will air on ABC (no conditional, it WILL get picked up).
- The show will be shot in Hawaii.
- It will take place on a fictitious island.
- It will feature a big ensemble cast, portraying people settling in on that island, creating a community.
- Some people were on the island before (Dichen Lachman's character here).
- There's some nuclear stuff (the armed submarine on Last Resort, the hydrogen bomb in season 5 of Lost).
- A character has Shephard as a last name.
- I predict that the french girl, Sophie Girard, working as a NATO official in the listening station of that island, will be isolated, like Jin and Sun at first on Lost. That's my theory : the fact that the actress has never had an english-speaking role before, that Chaplin and his crew "take over" that station and that Ryan chose to have a french character of all nationalities (french is one of the 2 official languages of NATO) could indicate that she might not speak english (very well) and be considered an enemy.
ITA, may have to check it out to be sold on this show hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteGreat cast... curious on the concept beyond a movie or a mini series, but will def keep an eye out for this one....
ReplyDeleteI was luke warm about this, but very interested for Shawn Ryan....
ReplyDeleteThen Braugher signs on and now the rest of the cast? Wow! This looks stellar.
So many great people involved in this project. I have to give it a chance,
ReplyDelete"I'm telling you, this is going to be THE major new drama on network TV. I have a good feeling about this."
ReplyDeleteThe cast is amazing. I'll give you that. It really is fantastic. I don't get the same feeling about this as you do though. Serialized, high-concept dramas have a rock-solid track record of being expensive ratings disasters and outright bombs. ABC is especially aware of this because, except for Lost and OUAT, their efforts in this area have been particularly unsuccessful.
This and "Revolution" are the two pilots I'm finding myself most interested in. I mean the people both shows have been gathering has been pretty amazing, I can't wait to see them. (and I so hope they both get picked up)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds great but I'm not sure if it's suitable for ABC. Max Adler always gives me the creeps so I guess I'm gonna give it a try XD
ReplyDeleteRobert Patrick! Just saw him on Safe House two weeks ago, he was awesome!
