Don't like cheese in my shows, but stylised episodes I adore (unlike musical episodes that just weird me out). And sometimes stylised does need to be cheesy so it's the only time I don't mind.
Well... maybe in a fantasy setting, I could accept it. But this is a procedural, and however light hearted it may be, it's just off-putting and cheesy to lose it's grounding. This will likely be the only Castle episode I don't watch.
The Bones and Fringe episodes were two of the worst either of those shows have produced.
I’m sorry but Castle went from a great crime show with good humor to a cheesy will they or won’t they show. Season 4 was a disappointment so far and this one doesn’t look good either. The sad thing is, the ratings show that I’m not alone with this opinion.
Guess I’m going to be on the run again, from all the fans, who adore Castle. Sorry, but this season I just don’t see it.
I like those kinds of episodes, for me they are fun to watch because it's something different than you're used to. I don't say I want them all the time, then it would be getting boring, but one episode out of 4 or even more seasons? I mainly watch shows because I love seeing the characters interact with each other. And when they're throwing the characters you love (or slightly other versions of them) for one episode in a total different setting, then I won't take it too seriously and I'll be excited to see how it'll play out. I'm looking forward to this episode!!
Didn't see either of those, but the '30s/'40s style homage to Frankenstein that they did on X-Files was one of my favorite episodes of that show, and one I've re-watched many times. Smallville actually did a decent Noir episode as well, if memory serves.
For someone who doesn't like 'fantasy' in a procedural, maybe this could work, though. The show isn't dipping into some weird alternate universe, or anything. It's just Castle reading an old journal, and imagining what he's reading and how it pertains to the newest case. It's 100% in keeping with his character, and the premise of the show: a writer uses his imagination and talent for working out stories to help homicide detectives solve crime.
I fully on with the hope its not too cheesy side of things, but the sneak showing Castle and Beckett dealing with real world stuff gives me hope that these bits will be segments rather than the whole show... So much of Castle is OTT that jumping it into a whole other time might suspend my suspension-of-disbelief :(
I'm still really enjoying this season but I too wish they would tone down the will they - won't they vibe. It's the reason I no longer watch Bones. My favorite episodes this season have been the ones that concentrated more on the secondary characters.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I can't wait!!! this ep is going to be one of my faves, I know!! :D
ReplyDeleteWay too excited for this one.
ReplyDeleteUgh.. I hate to go against the stream here, but it looks so bad.
ReplyDeleteThese "noir fantasy" episodes seem like the new musical episodes, only none of them have been any good. It's just going to be too damned cheesy.
Getting more and more excited for this!
ReplyDeleteI seriously cannot wait for this. I love this show and the way it plays around.
ReplyDeleteStana is rocking the 40s look!

I get the biggest smile on my face when I see promos and photos for this episode :) I think it's going to be great!
ReplyDeleteJust realized the announcer was doing his best Humphrey Bogart impersonation. That is quite frankly awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love Castle and Iove Film-Noir. I simply am so excited about this episode!
ReplyDeleteI cant wait! A few new scenes than the first one from last week! Only 4 more days!
ReplyDeleteawesome promo castleeeeeeee
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to this because it is interesting and can showcase Beckett/Castle in a new light
ReplyDeleteGAH! OMG! I CAN'T WAIT!!! *fangirl squee and flail* XD
ReplyDeleteHAOLJAFLDAJFAKLFHLAJAFHDSJFA yes, this is me right now.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good looking promo but the voiceover sounds like a bad Bogart impression.

ReplyDeleteThat Columbo-esque voice over is terrible. Like how they are playing the 40's angle up. If nothing else, this episode will be memorable.

ReplyDeleteI was thinking Columbo, but you're right. Either way, it's wince worthy and completely takes away from the rather stylized promo.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Noir... but I like kisses between Castle/Beckett.
