The Vampire Diaries - Episode 3.10 - The New Deal - Review

Reviews Vampire Diaries
I have vehemently been a "Stelena" fan (for those that are sane enough to stay out of the fandom in that sense, that is the Stefan and Elena couple name). That for sure is no secret. Everyone knows. There's plenty to love about that couple because they just fit together well on screen that the show even has to make Elena believe that Stefan "betrayed" her (ugh.) to have her act on the feelings she has for Damon. Also, because it would be kind of slutty and incestual if they just entered some ménage à trois type relationship with Stefan in the mix.
Guess we'll leave those for True Blood scenes with about zero payoff.
And I know no one actually cares what I think, but I started seeing what the Delena (Damon and Elena, again just in case) fans were seeing with the couple during their bed scene earlier this season. And with "The New Deal," I'm seeing it again. It started in the kitchen scene — and I don't know what it is, maybe it's the music, maybe it's the fact that it was basically said either Stelena or Delena are going to kiss and I was anxious already — and then progressed to the porch scene, but I could not stop saying, "Oh! Oh! They're gonna — oh! They're going to kiss! Wait… no… not now… oh, he's walking away then… AH! WAIT!"
Basically I fangirled, which embarrasses me for two reasons: (1) I thought I was better than that; (2) I'm a guy.
Then I took a look at Tumblr and felt slightly better. Whew.
I do have a major problem, however, with the kiss (other than following Jeremy's scene that made it feel a bit rushed).

nice review i like the Delena scene better
ReplyDeleteThanks;)
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Nice review
ReplyDeleteLoved this episode... but there was ONE scene that made me want to KILL Klaus!!!!! Or try to anyway. Totally plummeted my mood from happy to angry.
ReplyDeletehaha thanks! I've always been a "Delena" fan myself, and I thought they had some great scenes together last night - they really illustrated how much Damon actually cares for Elena, and that he wants to be there for her, though his reasons may be a tad selfish.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a huge Stefan fan - his broody, self-hating nature really annoyed me at first, and reminded me of Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer - another vampire whose fan club I wasn't signing up for. However, I like the direction they've taken him this season. While it may not have all been good, Klaus awakened a side of Stefan that I really like - he may not really be a villain anymore, but he's got a new confidence and a bit of snark that I can't help but love.. and I hope this Stefan sticks around!
I could care less about the shipping (even though it is literally what the show is built on). I am a huge Damon fan (I probably wouldn't have even started watching the show if it wasn't for him). I want Elena to grow as a person. To become independent and strong and not be so dainty and dependent on either of the Salvatore brothers (or Alaric, for that matter). At the same time, I don't want her to become Katherine. Elena is the "protagonist" of the show but sometimes I wish she would just die (and stay dead). The New Deal was disappointing. The kiss was superfluous. Jeremy being compelled, sad but boring. Been there, done that. He will be back. As for Stephan, I wish they could find a balance for him. Either he is all emo and drinking bunny blood or he is a full blown ripper. Now, he's out for revenge? Stefan, will never be a good villain. It's just not believable. This episode fell flat. They better step their game up because, other new shows will be returning soon and I don't know that I will, unless they get back to the stellar storytelling I've become accustomed to. I tuned out after the second episode of season 1 and didn't come back until they got rid of the smoke, the raven and those godawful voice overs and de-emphasized the reading of the damn diaries. I'm not afraid to walk away. Do you know, I actually used the fast forward button for something other than a commercial, it was when Alaric got hit by the car. I knew he was going to survive. Been there, done that. The stakes are high but the consequences are few and far between. Just a rant, sorry.
ReplyDeletei completelyy agree with your thinkg about there needing to be a difference between damon and stefan!! it doesn't make sense for therere to be a love triange if 2 of the people are basically the same!! and great review!
