Every now and again we ask our readers to provide us with some feedback.

Today we're interested in how many of you use Badgeville to collect badges for the various activities and shows.

For those that voted "Don't know how" or "What's Badgeville". You can read about collecting badges and Badgeville here.

If you have any questions about the Badgeville System please don't hesitate in asking below in the comments.

  2. Badges???  We don't need no stinking badges!!!

  3. I don't like the badge thingy etc. because it takes much longer for the site to load because of the "Activities" and "Community" lists that I can't even block with Ad-Block, so I have to wait till they starts running. For someone who's not interested in it it's very annoying.

Also, the Welcome, Guest! frame covers the upper part of the site so I can't use the tabs for the networks but have to search for the shows manually. Could you move it somewhere else, please?

  4. Kati, can you email me with a screenshot of your problem. I've tested on IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera and don't have that problem with any of the Browsers.

  5. I like the concept of badges because it drives more activity on the site.  SpoilerTV is my favorite TV website and if it takes badges to get more people to recognize that then I'm okay with it.  I think badges for FB liking, Twitter, Google+, and GetGlue are good ideas.  They get the site out to more people.  However, in reality, the badges don't work for me, especially the ones for commenting and being the first to comment.  I feel all this does is ruin the conversation due to the sheer number of people commenting thanks and awesome and other non-discussion comments.  Almost every single thread starts with "thanks" now.  People comment without looking at the pictures, reading the spoilers, or watching the videos just to get the first to comment points.  I hate wading through all the filler just to get at one or two people who are making comments I can continue a conversation with.  This is especially frustrating since the site seems to be loading slower and crashing more often since Badgeville started.  I used to have the best conversations about TV here on SpoilerTV but now I feel like the majority of people commenting (and voting in polls) don't even watch the shows they are commenting on.  It gets irritating so sometimes I avoid threads or SpoilerTV as a whole, which is something I never did before Badgeville.  I guess for me the best plan would be to encourage people to use the social media buttons to get site recognition up by awarding people badges for that, but not to have badges for anything else.

  6. Thanks for the very honest and constructive feedback. All I can say for now is "watch this space". Changes will be implemented shortly to help fixes a number of these issues.

  7. I have the same issue that Kati does with the Welcome Guest frame and i use Firefox on a Mac (and i'm logged in, so why is there?) The first tab i can see is FX, so it covers up a third of the tabs on the left hand side.

I also do not use badges and have no interest in them and it does take a huge amount of time for the page to load. It would be nice if there was a box to click (or something) to turn it off for those of us who don't want to see it.

  8. I love collecting the badges!

  9. Drop me an email with a screenshot please.

  10. Agreed, the 'thanks' thing routinely makes me angry. :(

    ReplyDelete
  11. I hate the 'thanks' first comments as well, I always try to comment with something more than that

  12. Yes! Totally!! :D

  13. Really? The site already loads slowly because of the Activities and Community and other flashy bits I don't use, with adverts it would take twice as long. I tried it in IE without Ad-Block and it kept loading for a full minute, warning me of script attacks etc. I prefer to be safe with Ad-Block even if it means I can't use half the links on this site. Oh, well... *shrugs*

  14. Other:

While I do enjoy collecting badges, I don't make a point of posting just to collect show points to earn badges.  The introduction of badges doesn't change how I post.  If I have a comment to make, I post.  If I have nothing to say, I don't post just for the show points.

Speaking of badges, didn't we vote on Glee badges quite a while ago?

  15. Try using Chrome, It's a LOT faster than IE.

IE is very slow, buggy and the most insecure of all the browsers, plus we optimize for Google Chrome

  16. To be honest I really don't care.

I'm quite proud that I don't have any Pretty Little Liars badges ;)

  17. if you're already using AdBlock then why don't you just block all the community boxes etc on the site that you don't want? it's what I do, for me the site looks like this:

  18. I had the same problems before I signed up (2-3 months back). That was with Firefox and Chrome. That was actually the main reason I signed up, the get the site faster and to get that frame away that blocked tabs.

  19. I really appreciate you asking for feedback and then acting on the majority opinion.  I'm excited to be thanks free in the future and excited to be a part of this community.  After all, getting to know the people here and being able to civilly discuss your favorite TV shows are reward enough, even without getting points for it.

  20. I would love to see somewhere when I'll reach the next level at the show-badges, I have the feeling I'm stuck at level 4 for forever now and that I'll never reach level 5 -.-

  21. The Badgeville System is a nice tool yes, but I am not on this site because of this. I'm not posting because of this and most of the time I hardly look at my point status. The first time I looked in my profile I was happy to see OUAT was listed but sad not The Mentalist... but since then, I'm not really interested in this system.. as I said, I'm here because of News and Spoilers of my favorite Shows. When I post something, it's because I want to share my thoughts not because I can earn points by that...
so that's my opinion... Sorry for my errors... it's difficult to write when Englisch is not your mother language.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm not sure Badgeville have that functionality yet. I'll see if it's in their plans.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks Raven. Your English is VERY good! Thanks for the feedback.

  24. I probably would use Badgeville, but it requires that you have a Twitter account, and I don't want to have a Twitter account just for this.

    ReplyDelete
  25. You can just create a random, throwaway one., You don't have to use it for anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Honestly I just don't care, I don't see what the point of it is. How do I benefit from it? I use this site for spoilers and discussing episodes of my favourite shows. Its a great site without the badge gimmick, but hey some people like it and enjoy collecting those badges so whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The main reason we do it is to reward users who interact with the site and share our content out to their various social networks.

Each month we pick one of the top 10 points earners for that month and they get a DVD Box set of their choice.

Again, I realise it's not for everyone :)

  28. Did we? DarkUFO if the poll exists then send it over to me. I have plenty of time tomorrow. I have some TV Teasers and other stuff planned, so I can get the badges done! :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yup, I use it and I love getting badges! :D

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like the recognition of the points system - yes, I'm here for the info and discussions and fun of the site, but the positive reinforcement of the periodic badges popping up is quite fun. I can't say its an aim or anything, just a cool little added bonus. If it supports or promotes STV in anyway then I'm all for it!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't comment so I can earn badges, I comment because I'm opinionated and want everyone to know what I think :P However, it IS very exciting when I discover I've just earned another badge.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes I enjoy collecting them but I have a question. When a show ends like Chuck just did will anything happen with those badges we collected for that show?

    ReplyDelete
  34. They will stay in your profile :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I like getting the badges...they're a nice touch to the website. However, the main reason I visit spoilertv is for all the awesome tv scoop. I was a regular visitor before and still would if the badges went away. The badges are a nice little extra.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks Neon, glad you like them

    ReplyDelete
  37. Are the Chuck badges being retired? Because I'm only about half way.

    ReplyDelete
  38. No, your existing badges will be preserved but in a few days you'll no longer be able to collect new ones.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That's what I meant, now to find a way of getting more badges quickly without subjecting my family to a thousand FB likes xD

    ReplyDelete
  40. Pretty much my exact sentiments, though I do feel they encourage me to post and interact more, thus stimulating conversations.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I made a custom Adblock plus exception that should probably be passed onto firefox users:
Won't solve the community stuff, but sorts out the header etc.
