    I just cannot believe that rating, with all the trending etc. Perhaps its unrealistic to expect a ratings surge after a long hiatus, but after all the advertisement etc.
    One positive: it didnt go down in terms of viewers it in fact gained some from wallflower
    Anothe positive: we have 6 more episodes in a row now, maybe that stability in scheduling will increase the viewership
    Another thing: its clear a lot of our viewers are STILL dvr'ing and unfortunately i doubt that will change considering the shows time slot

    Well, we do have to remember, it is a holiday weekend... That's one for the negative side... But I'm hopeful for the 3 day DVR numbers... I wanna know what those are! I was hoping for at least a 1.6! Ok, being realistic here, that's *too hopeful*

    It's amazing how we can get Fringe trending on Twitter worldwide, but according to Nielsen there are less than 3 million people watching. If only Fox would realize that those numbers are meaningless.

    I put this on my Twitter feed earlier. This is an interesting article about just how many people in the US watch TV 'live.' (Read, only 1/3 of US TV viewers.) http://techland.time.com/2012/01/11/only-one-third-of-tv-watching-in-the-u-s-is-realtime/

    One of my final projects for film school is creating TV (in the US) that will last/be a hit by being successful on ALL platforms of media, not just 'live' TV viewing.

    Figured the group of people here would like to read this article and if you are still scratching your head like I am with how they 'just' rely on Nielsen numbers, join me in my confusion. :)

    what the hell....if i lived in america i wouldn't plan anything on Fridays.Fridays would be Fringe days.Fringeday comes after Thursday.

    what piss me off is the fact Fringe is not a stupid show overall maybe if we add hubrid vampires who want to take over the orangeverse and one of them falls in love with olivia maybe more people will watch it.LOL seriously now i cant think a series finale this season.not with how the storyline goes...so far..ill be more than pissed and dissapointed .

    Honestly I am not surprised. I think some shows just have a limited fanbase, albeit a passionate one.

    Between the Sci-Fi elements that alienate many people, the serial elements that eliminate many people from watching and the beginning of this season annoying many people because "their" characters were not the same characters they love.... I do not expect ratings to go up very much even in the best of circumstances. 

    I think with a long run of serial episodes that get back to what FRINGE does best the ratings may rise some, but not enough to save the series. Ratings alone will not save FRINGE. Fringe will get renewed or not based on a combination of factors: the lack of ratings for the new FOX series, the upcoming pilots in the FOX pipeline not looking good, the FOX executives being a fan of the series, and  the quality of the series itself.

    It's out of our hands so sit back and enjoy one of the best Sci-Fi series, or any genre of series on TV while it lasts!

    My point is that there's obviously a much larger audience that the Nielsen numbers seem to evade. Fox is only losing money because the flawed Nielsen ratings are their only definition of success.

    Dude I like the way you think too, but there is a difference between being hopeful and being delusional. Nothing in this universe is free, especially TV. My guess is that WB will offer a 10-12 episode 5th season for a slightly reduced price, bringing FOX's budget down by a little more than half, with an option to produce 10 more if the ratings improve between now and then.

    Here's the deal; All the tweeters represent the bottom half of the 18-49 demo, all the Nielson box users represent the top half of the 18-49 Demo. Most of the Nielson box users are older than 36, while most tweeters are anywhere between 18 and 36. So in reality they should use both those numbers to truly represent the real demographic audience for Fringe. People that are between 18-36 seem to be more inclined to go out on a Friday night and to DVR the show, of those DVR'ing the show, maybe one third are actually not fast-forwarding through the commercials which in so doing negates the ratings that DVR's would otherwise create. So get the word out to all your Fellow Fringies, that if they are gonna DVR the show then to please not skip the commercial at least for Fringe in particular, because if they don't skip the ads, then their DVR activity will be counted in the final 3 day, and 7 day ratings.

    DVR activity does not count unless you are a Nielsen viewer just like watching doesn't count unless you are one.  For most people (and everyone international) it doesn't matter where, how, or what they watch when it comes to Fringe.

    I was always under the impression that all DVR activity is counted (I am not for sure but just defaulted to that notion), but then discounted by the use of FF. I admit I might be wrong, but how are you so sure that DVR is only counted in neilson households? What qualifies that statement. Not that I am doubting you, I just want to be educated on this subject, going forward.

    It's extremely frustrating. As the times change and evolve so must the business model that they use. That said, with how slow they are facing reality that NO ONE watches really anything live anymore (except reality in a recent survey I found) it amazes me that they still don't think that there are only 2 channels and everyone watches TV together as they sit in front of the TV like it's the 1950's. LOL!

    I would actually be completely happy with a 12 episode season. That's completely fine with me. It's on, it's a show, it's cheaper, and people seem to want/like only the mythological episodes anyway, not monster-of-the-week/filler ones.

    Here are the statements at TV by the Numbers, where a lot of the ratings posted on this site is taken from.  

    "If I Am Not a Nielsen Family is My DVR Viewing Counted: 
    No.  Nielsen's DVR numbers are national projections based on the National People Meter panel which is about 20,000 homes (and ~50,000 people).  At least theoretically "people like you" are represented in the Nielsen panel.  It could be your DVR, Cable or Satellite provider does collect your data, but that data isn't part of the Nielsen time-shifted DVR ratings.""Pandora’s Box for Fans?
    When I first heard about this, my thought was “Oh man, the fans of marginally-rated shows are going to have a field day with this!”  You know, “WATCH Chuck as MANY TIMES AS YOU CAN BEFORE 3AM!”  Indeed, all the duplicate DVR viewing will count in the ratings – but only if it happens in a household that’s part of Nielsen’s panel.     Thanks. I did a little research last night too and still I wasn't clear about it. So it seems all DVRs count and record, and report activity, but not all of that activity is tallied into the ratings, only the neilson family DVR activity is kept. well that is just retarded. (pardon my language) If they can see all of it why only count some of it? Seems like a waste of resources to me.

    My sentiments exactly 10-12 episodes means they would be "gettin down to business" and not screwing around with all the filler. Could you imagine a full awesome nonstop season of Fringe without a hiatus, or dumb episodes? That is what they should have been doing from the get go.
