The CW has picked up three new drama pilots, including one from J.J. Abrams and One Tree Hill exec producer Mark Schwahn.

The first series is titled Shelter, and is a drama set at a historic summer resort in New England.

The other two pilots are both about time-traveling: The Selection is based on the forthcoming series of books by Kiera Cass and is about "an epic romance set 300 years in the future". The other, is Joey Dakota, based on the Israeli format Danny Hollywood.

  1. I love time travel, so those sound really interesting to me. And so does the resort one, tbh.

  2. I'll be very surprised if Mark Schwahn ever finds the same success he did with OTH. 9 years is once in a lifetime for a lot of creators/writers not named JJ Abrams.

  3. Even JJ can't get nine years. :P  Though the CW likes to stick with things that have a certain amount of success. It's why a lot of their shows never seem to die.

  4. Yeah, the resort one doesn't sound bad. Sort of a workplace setting series. But it seems like a fun place for some drama. We'll have to see how gets cast.

  5. None of these are really doing it for me not even the JJ produced one

  6. I'll try anything by JJ Abrams for at least a season's worth of episodes. Of these three shows, "Shelter" sounds interesting, and "The Selection" could be festive too. "Joey Dakota" I'm not so sure about.

  7. Never one to miss a chance to capitalize on pop culture phenomena...
The CW spawns its own Hunger Games rip-off....

  8. I'm gonna have to wait for more details, cause it's hard to tell anything yet;)

  9. not enough info yet but the second one sounds interesting sorta

  10. So everything is based on a book or a movie these days.. Nothing original. Today's writers really need to get more creative!

  11. These are somewhat interesting, but I wonder what this might mean for some of the shows on CW currently...

  12. I read the description for The Selection and the first thing I thought was great, 300 years in the future and we still can't killed off The Bachelor/The Bachelorette.  I weep for the future.  Here's hoping it is more like the Hunger Games and less 300 year old romance.

Joey Dakota's biggest selling point for me is Mark Harmon.  Surely he wouldn't sign on for a teen time travel piece.

As for Shelter, I'm getting a we're desperate for the Gilmore Girls vibe combined with a lot of people on beaches, mostly hot teens.

  13. Actually this is what I am hoping for.  If it goes more Hunger Games and less Miss America, it has a chance to be good for me.

  14. It seems like the CW always picks up a lot of pilots but then only cancels 2-3 shows.  I think they like to hedge their bets.

  15. Honestly, for the CW they don't sound that bad.

  16. These all sound pretty bad.  This is once again good news for the CW shows on the air fighting for a renewal right now.

  17. Think these all sound rtaher bland.  Can't say i think I would watch any of them.

  18. When I read this yesterday, I wasn't keen on "Shelter"'s title, but then I listened to the Rolling Stones this morning and I changed my mind :p. It's perfect name for people who are trying to find their places in life and are seeking refuge among other people...
