In addition to confirming Oliver Queen's shipwreck origins, the characters listed below include Dinah Lance, known to comic book fans as Black Canary. Though there's no confirmation of whether her superheroic alter ego will be featured on the show, its a very likely possibility.
Oliver Queen
A 27 year old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in the South China Sea returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.
Dinah "Laurel" Lance
28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara. A sister, who as luck would have it, just so happened to have died aboard Oliver’s yacht.
Tommy Merlyn
28 years old and devil-smooth, Tommy is a trustafarian like Oliver, a spectacularly rich young man whose life revolves around parties, clubs, liquor and lots of anonymous sex. Unlike Oliver, he can’t seem to understand his former best friend’s sudden change of lifestyle and direction.
Moira Queen
48 years old, a beautiful woman, Oliver’s mother Moira is a very wealthy woman who is not used to being shaken. Having remarried during the five years that former husband Robert and Oliver were both presumed dead, Moira has had free rein over the Queen billions. Not surprisingly, she’s deeply interested in learning whether or not Robert will also return unexpectedly, to ruin her present marriage and go over the books with a fine-tooth comb.
John Diggle
35 years old, African-American, Diggle is really, really big, a former military man who served with the Army Rangers in Afghanistan, and has been a bodyguard for hire for the last four years. Hired by Moira to be Oliver’s chauffeur and protector, Diggle soon finds he is trapped in a battle of wits, as Oliver repeatedly eludes his protection. But in fact, Diggle’s primary conflict is one of loyalty — he has to show that he’s working for Oliver, not Moira, before Oliver will give him a smidgen of trust.
Thea Queen
17 years old (suggest 17-22 years), Oliver’s Lolita-esque sister, Thea was a 12 year old girl when he went on his infamous yachting voyage — but now she’s a celebutante who’s testing the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Thea loved her big brother with all her heart, and is delighted to have him back in her life — but she’s spreading her wings, and is unprepared for Oliver to become the Bad Cop in the family, restricting her access to boys and drugs.
Dating all the way back to 1941 when he made his first appearance in "More Fun Comics" #73, Oliver Queen is a billionaire who leads a double life as expert archer and costumed hero Green Arrow. Over the years, Queen has been a member of the Justice League and even Mayor of his hometown, Star City.
Justin Hartley previously played a television version of the character on "Smallville", becoming a regular cast member in later seasons. Hartley is not being sought to play the role at this time and it appears that the show will not have any specifics connections.

I don't know, I would have high hopes for this if it were any other network.
ReplyDeleteI would like the idea more if it were in conjunction with Smallville, and had Justin Hartley. That way they could have the other characters show up once in a while :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I am sceptical about it having a real chance but it could surprise us all...
ReplyDeletewithout justin hartley, idk if i would watch.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how I feel about any of this.
ReplyDeleteLike, I feel like they're screwing over the people who will watch it becuase it's Green Arrow by doing things like adding some sister and other things. Like changing Dinah's name. And calling Star City Starling City. Unnecessary things. I get they're trying to get non-Green Arrow fans to watch but is screwing over actual Green Arrow fans the way to do that? I'm not asking for everything to be the same as the comics but these small things are what bug me the post. I'd rather see Roy or Mia over this Thea character.
I don't know. I guess it'll come down to the casting. Otherwise, I'm not really as excited as I should be.
I don't see this pilot going anywhere even if they cast it well.
ReplyDeleteJustin Hartley and Alaina Huffman please!
ReplyDeleteI was never a comic book fan, but I always loved the Green Arrow in his limited TV appearances when I was growing up.
ReplyDeleteI think he has a great origin story and makes for a good hero to be on TV. Less VFX needed for super strength, flying or heat vision etc...
I'm not sold on any pilot without a cast, but I think there is definitely room for a true superhero series on TV and I think the CW is probably the only network that would give a superhero series a fighting chance to air a full Season 1 or get renewed.
I'm all for this is theory......
Very meh about this. Coming so soon on the heels of Smallville who had a great Green Arrow I just don't imagine myself caring very much.
ReplyDeleteThe CW is definitely where you want to be if you're making this kind of show.
ReplyDeleteWas excited about this until this post. Now it just seems boring.
ReplyDeleteAlready screwed it up. Olive Queen does not have a younger sister. Sorry, Green Arrow is one of my favorite characters from the comics. But at-least they got what i'm guessing is the "bad guy" of the series right with Merlyn.
ReplyDeleteCouple of things if it does picked up, that would peak my interest.
Over the first season they transition Dinah Lance black canary.
If Huntress/Helena Bertinelli is ever written on the show played by Elisha Dushku or Amy AckerAlso write Charles Victor Szasz (The Question) as a recurring character at some point.
Write in Daniel Brickwell half into the season.
Also they should just cast Hartley and just explain that it is not connected to the Smallville world. People will understand.
Pity.... I was hoping they'd try tp continue from where Smallville left off. :(
ReplyDelete(Yes, I though Justin and Alaina were great)
Also from what I see they're not keeping too close with the origial story. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing, but that is something only time will be able to tell.
On the other hand I'm quite a big Greg Berlandi fan so I do have hope that I might like it (if I manage to seperate and not compare with it with the Smallville universe).
Blergh.
ReplyDeleteNot really mad about the little sis, but the description just sounds so cliched. In general, I really dislike the "family cast" focus they are approaching. It sounds more like Revenge meets Ringer but the duplicity comes from being a superhero.
Not really sure it mish-mashes with the Green Arrow myths, It would have been safer if they just gone something Smallville-like (which is what the fans are expecting, really)
