Previously on SpoilerTV...
Part I - CBS : Killer at Procedural Land
Part II - The CW Diaries
Part III - Once Upon a Time, ABC had good ratings...
Part IV - The new girl is FOXy
Part V - NBC or the story of the peacock on fire
Part VI - AMC and FX, complex ratings on basic cable
Part VII - Showtime and HBO, or where the ratings don't matter (or do they ?)
Today's ratings are those of FX and AMC shows. AMC and FX are by far the two REDACTED on basic cable if you ask me, which is why I am REDACTED they're doing especially great, led by the huge success of The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy, both shows being among the top 5 of the most watched programs on basic cable in 2011 (even with REDACTED reality TV shows included !). As you may have noticed, I try and stay neutral now, even if I continue to think adding a personal touch is REDACTED.

PS : I dedicate this post to Bec666, Deangirl, Jas and geordiegirl1967, if they come across these lines (not a sure thing : they hate me, won't read anything I will ever write, comment only on Supernatural-related threads and/or threatened to leave the website). May your eyes recover from having been forced to read my opinion on the PCA. No seriously, don't be pissed because I expressed my personal opinion in the opening post and not in a comment (oops, I did it again), I'll try not to do it as much in the future (or not in a Supernatural-related thread anyway - even if I actually never said anything bad about Supernatural, except my overall take on the voting system and value of these awards).
Anyway, tomorrow's post will feature the ratings of HBO and Showtime. I don't have the ratings for all 8 episodes of the 1st season of Starz's Boss, but despite them not being very high (the second episode only garnered 500,000 viewers when combining the results of the two airings of the night), the show has been renewed for a 10-episode second season.

Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteLittle sad to see Hell on Wheels at 2.2 million... I was hoping it would climb at the end of the season to the near 3 million range.
Breaking Bad has fewer viewers than I thought it did. I thought it was averaging around 4mil.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the wallpaper from Breaking Bad Season 4 made me miss the series and its incredible acting!
ReplyDeleteSo I was inspired to do some prelim DVD concept art.
This is going to be too long of a wait until Season 5 airs isn't it?
It's sad to see one of the best shows on TV (Breaking Bad) get only ~2 million viewers.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if The Walking Dead will ever top 7.26 million viewers. It would be cool if the finale for this season or Season 3 premiere topped it.
Too bad "Hell on Wheels" isn't doing better. I'd like to see it last a long time, and it won't with numbers like these.
ReplyDeleteI started watching it, but only got around to watching the first 3 episodes. It just didn't draw me in. Maybe I'll catch up on the first season by the time Season 2 starts.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the numbers it's still AMC's second best rated show, but more critical acclaim that basically kept Breaking Bad and Mad Men alive wouldn't hurt.
ReplyDeleteBut AMC wanted a western show for a long time and if the numbers stay at that level it should stick around a bit. The Walking Dead is such a ratings monster that you can't compare the other shows to it, that's just unfair.
Also sad to see that the best Breaking Bad episode this year - Crawl Space - had the least viewers.
It's such an odd thing, but some of the best episodes get low ratings on a lot of series....
ReplyDeleteI guess that it is completely random of course since people do not know how good an episode will be prior to tuning in, and it has more to do with non-show related factors like other other shows on in the time spot, weather, sporting events etc...
Still feels quirky to me whenever I see a brilliant episode with lower ratings than a filler episode
(Not that Breaking Bad has any filler episodes... just speaking in general terms XD)
Of course people can't know how good an episode will be, but it was just the first thing I thought since Crawl Space was so brilliant that it would have deserved better ratings. On the other hand pretty much every show mentioned in this post deserves better ratings (AHS is the only show I don't watch), just TWD and SoA are at a level that I'd call okay.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that Sunny got renewed for not one but two more seasons!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
Thanks! :)
