BBC ONE
The Reichenbach Fall is the final episode in BBC One’s much praised, multi-award-winning drama Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
James Moriarty – the greatest criminal mind that the world has ever seen. Sherlock and John knew he wouldn’t stay hidden for long. But even they never guessed the sheer scale and audacity of the crime that would propel Moriarty back into the headlines. The crime of the century. The Tower of London, the Bank of England, Pentonville prison – all sprung open on the same day as if by magic! But Moriarty’s plans don’t stop there...
Sherlock and John lock horns with their old enemy in one final problem that tests loyalty and courage to their very limits. Sherlock must fight for his reputation, his sanity and his life. But is he all he claims to be?
Benedict Cumberbatch plays Sherlock Holmes, with Martin Freeman as John Watson, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft, Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade, Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, Andrew Scott as Moriarty, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper and Katherine Parkinson is Kitty Riley.

this is gonna be soooo good
ReplyDeleteI kind of hope that this one ends differently from in the book. We already have the 'how are they gonna be alive after that' moment at the end of last years mini series :p
ReplyDeleteYep looking forward to this one too.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, but i don't think there's any danger of them copying the book, they've really just made little nods to the source material in terms of plot, rather than actually use any of it properly.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they haven't really followed the books a great deal at all going on the first series. I prefer that thou since the stories are sooo well known :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, and if they followed the book plots but messed them around i'd be more sore about it i think! I prefer they sculpt their own Sherlock, their own version of the original, so the original can still stand in its own right.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I think that this version succeeds in this far better than the recent films do. RDJ is a great actor, but he doesn't pull off Sherlocks anti-social and narcissistic qualities in the same way that Cumberbatch does. Sherlock is not a nice character at all, which is where many versions fall down for me.
ReplyDeleteYES! Totally. I love the Sherlock movies, but only because i separate them entirely from the Sherlock fandom really, because it's SO Hollywood-ised. I just consider it a movie and a cool character that happens to share the same name as Sherlock, and then i can enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteThe TV series with Brett i would consider canon though, certainly - they were so faithful to the material, and so excellent.
Does anyone know if and when this ill be shown on BBC America?
ReplyDeleteHaha, Brett is probably my fav incarnation, I've been watching a few on ITV3 recently. He has a very nasty side to him, and is a fantastic character actor (as the character is in the books) which works so well on the screen :D You can well believe that he knows everything about someone in one cold stare down that long nose of his XD
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy Freeman as Watson a great deal in these, I sometimes feel that his is the trickier character to pull off if Sherlock is played correctly. There has to be something very lovable about him for the audience, yet something broken in him that Sherlocks sees as a way to mould him into the perfect sidekick. But at the same time he has to be able to stand up to Sherlock when needed, be a way of keeping him grounded in reality :D
I love how benevolent his cruelty is, too, he often just has NO idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with Freeman, but i loved Burke as Watson. I also sort of prefer seeing them when they have lived together for quite a while and are well used to each other, rather than just after they have met.
The ultimate Watson though is Vitaly Solomin - have you seen the Russian adaptation? A bit bizarre (mainly only due to the cultural differences) but very cool, and the Watson is *exactly* how i imagine him from the books.
ooo, no I haven't, thou I'm sure I have heard it mentioned before by someone as one to see. I may have to have a look out for it XD
ReplyDeleteI have a bit of a soft spot for Freeman, I've loved him since his Office days, could be part of the reason I like him in the role so much. (Can't wait to see him in Hobbit!!)
Ah yes, you're going to love that film then eh!?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely check out the Russian version, youtube has a lot of it actually i think, so easy to watch most of the eps online. It has some great 'wtf?!' moments, and man, Moriarty is *amazingly* weird (in an awesome way). :)
It definitely will be on BBC America later in the Spring, though as far as I know no exact air dates have been released. There was talk that the first of the three might be in May...
ReplyDeleteI even checked the website and they did not have any info,so thank you for letting me know. :)
