a move that is sure to stoke shock and awe among fans, a major (and incredibly popular) character on a hit drama series will take his/her last breath during 2012. And I’m not happy about it.
What’s more, per the Grinch St. Nick the actor/actress in question in not going quietly into the night.
“There has been a lot of tension on the set,” whispers the spy, “because [spoiler] isn’t happy with how [pronoun redacted] is being killed off.”
And while there’s a part of me that admires this program’s willingness to laugh in the face of conventional wisdom by whacking such a pivotal character, it’s tough to imagine the show without him/her.

I can't think of anybody!
ReplyDelete:-O
ReplyDeleteHopefully not on anything I watch.
ReplyDeletewell, we know it's NOT Chuck from Gossip Girl
ReplyDeletemaybe daryl from walking dead
ReplyDeleteI hope it's not Nolan from Revenge!
ReplyDeleteI doubt that... think of an edgy show with the balls to actually kill a major character off
ReplyDeletei hope no i like Daryl!
ReplyDeleteI hope Tara (SoA)
ReplyDeleteMaybe Desperate Housewife or Dexter ( Deb??)
he is talking about tv series that didn't end their seasons...
ReplyDeletePerhaps its Supernatural or one of the NCIS shows or even sanctuary in its finale?
ReplyDeleteI really can't think, what shows do Ausiello like as he seems to be upset by it?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it's gonna be someone from TVD? Not Tyler I couldn't bare it I love him so much. :(
ReplyDeletethank you for the news , so not.. now i want to know who!
ReplyDeleteCatherine Willows from CSI ??? Marg is leaving in January, so maybe ?? I hope she won't die !
ReplyDeleteNo idea. But it makes me nervous. Then again, it will probably turn out to be NCIS or something else I don't watch.
ReplyDeleteI watch an edgy show that kills off major characters, Supernatural. By now they have killed off pretty much every character, except the two leads and I don't think that they will permanently kill off either of them. At least not and continue. I'm pretty well guessing all my shows are safe. My only worry was that Nolan is a fairly popular character and I was hoping he wouldn't go.
ReplyDeleteUnless they are talking about Bobby, who may have been killed off in the last episode, there aren't any characters LEFT to be killed of in Supernatural. The only ones standing are Sam and Dean and both actors have talked about how hard it is to carry the entire show with TWO actors, let alone one. So I think Supernatural is probably not in contention here.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be more variety on TV nowadays when it comes to how a character exits. Shows either never kill anyone off or like SPN everyone dies and really who cares anymore when you know that the characters will die within a couple eps?
ReplyDeleteThere is a few characters from True Blood that I would not mind seeing dying in gruesome ways. My hope goes to Tara being killed.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I don't see why people can't just move away or something, have a happy ending for once but oh no its all about the ratings and it's getting a bit boring.
ReplyDeleteI only hope it's not Astrid(Fringe), cause episode 11 is gonna be Astrid-centric and I don't want her to die... Anyone else can die freely, I don't really care that much about other characters.
ReplyDeleteMeredith Grey
ReplyDeleteSo I have no idea ....
ReplyDeleteHo Ncis no :-( i hope no....
ReplyDeleteSancutary?
Mmmmmm no i think no....
I'm thinking this is the once unhappy about Frank Darabont leaving person on The Walking Dead. There was an article a couple of months back about someone onset being pissed off for Frank being fired, and telling the new showrunner they wanted to leave, but now that they are granted their wish they feel differently. I think either Shane, or Dale.
ReplyDeletemaybe you're right it can be
ReplyDeleteShe was already leaving, so I don't think this would apply to her:
ReplyDelete"it’s tough to imagine the show without him/her."
This I considered the option .... maybe you're right
ReplyDeleteit is called "Making Angels". But maybe they mean snow angels, who knows with Fringe titles?
ReplyDeleteDale.
ReplyDeleteisn't the photo suppose to be the character? it's a boy then? so... Nick from CSI?? i don't want to be him!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf that is the person in that photo then it is definitely Shane from The Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteGregory HOUSE?
ReplyDeletewell it cant be susan from DH, bc that show is gone anyway. idk who it could be.
ReplyDeleteLook at the photo on Ausiello's page, people! It is Shane from "The Walking Dead". It makes total sense because there was a report about one of the main cast members being displeased with the outing of original show-runner Frank Darabont, to the point that they wanted to leave the show as well. Well they got their wish, but apparently they don't like the way the character is gonna get treated. Shane is the one on the show who is quickly going downhill as a person, so it being him is not at all out of the question. What's more Ausiello also said it would be compared to a certain very main supporting character being killed on Boardwalk Empire. So all signs point to Shane on "The Walking Dead". Not to mention Shane should have died in the first season anyway if they were following the comics more closely.
ReplyDeleteno they always use that same photo
ReplyDeleteSupernatural has two leads, and pretty much no other long-lasting regulars, and never kills them off for good. So it's not that edgy. Now Lost was an edgy show. Boone, Shannon, Ana Lucia, Libby, Eko, Nikki, Paulo, Charlie, Michael, Charlotte, Locke, Juliet, Ilana, Sayid, Jin, Sun, Man in Black, Jack... they killed off regulars left and right! :P
ReplyDeleteI don't know why but I always had the feeling that Astrid was going to end of dead like Walter first lab assistant
ReplyDeleteMcCluskey from DH? I don't know whether I hope so, or hope not... :| I love her, but it'd be awesome, and since this is the last season anyway...
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure it's Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) from The Walking Dead. Ausiello posted an article a few months ago about how an actor from that show was heavily connected to Darabount and asked to be released of his contract. DeMunn is the closest to Darabount out of anyone on the show (he's appeared in almost every single Darabount film; plus, there's the fact that Darabount, because of this, picked him for the role of Dale).
ReplyDeletePeter from the Good Wife.My wish.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great guess. I wasn't even thinking Astrid. If it is, I will also be unhappy. Astrid is one of my favorite characters on Fringe.
ReplyDeleteCould be Dale. But I just don't see that making a huge impact on the show as ole ausiello here is making it out to be. But i definitely think its a character on The Walking Dead. You go with Dale i'll go with Shane.
ReplyDelete^This. Although I would love to see the look on everyone's face if that's actually Andrew Lincoln in an unprecedented move and Shane actually becoming the main character in Season 3. I know, I'm devious :p
ReplyDeleteoh, ok!! then I'm lost XDDD
ReplyDeleteI don't think it would be Astrid, she isn't a major character and sadly Fringe isn't a hit drama either
ReplyDeleteI bet it's Catherine form CSI!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBLASPHEMY!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBut Ausiello also said how he doesn't see how the show could go on without this person, and yet he can see how it does by reading the comics when Shane dies pretty earlier.
ReplyDeletei really hope i'm not :( :(
ReplyDeleteI hope it´s Shane and not Dale. I really really don´t want to see Dale die.
ReplyDeleteI'm already bored for the most part to be honest. I don't want happy endings for everyone but reasonable reasons other than death would be interesting. I have a feeling this spoiler relates to Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteIf it is Lt. Horatio Caine, I will never watch CSI: Miami or CBS again.
ReplyDelete...Never kills them off for good? Are you serious? Supernatural kills EVERYONE. Most of them for good.
ReplyDeleteExactly, you kinda prove my point here. Because of the fact that Shane was killed off in the comics very early on, then the impact wasn't felt so much. Conversely the Shane of the TV series has been around just long enough to have major impacts on the show. So killing him would be like loosing Locke in LOST during the second season. Catch my drift?
ReplyDeleteIf it is Lt. Horatio Caine, then I will consider returning to watching CSI Miami again. I really hate that guy. Could there be a more cliched character in television history? Every single time he's got a scene he ends it with a dramatic removal of his shades and a TERRIBLY PREDICTABLE and UNFUNNY play on words. What a douche he is.
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
The show won't last without the H character. Love him or not, his character is why the majority of fans watch CSI: MIAMI.
ReplyDeleteits obviously chuck or morgan
ReplyDeleteCould be interesting that way too, in fact thought I love the show, I'm not attached to any of the characters except for maybe Daryl. He's the really interesting character. Also I can't stand Andrew Lincoln's VERY fake sounding southern accent. I'm from the south and nobody sounds like that anywhere, nobody.
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ, I think Emily Proctor (Calliegh) is the character most really love in the series, and the one that would loose more fans if killed off. Horatio is the one they love to hate. But Love to hate has its advantages too, see Ben Linus LOST.
ReplyDeleteLoads of people seem to think Meredith or Derek from Grey's, personally I wouldn't mind Derek being killed off, but killing off Meredith would not be great for me. Otherwise I could see Shane from The Walking Dead going, or maybe even Peter in The Good Wife.
ReplyDeleteAny of the above, or Jack from Lost of course.
I'm thinking it's Nick now too.
ReplyDeleteHe and the actress that play Sara were two people that argued about how much money they were getting.
Thanks;)
ReplyDeleteRight now, we have no clues, so I'm waiting for more info. It's still very disturbing though...
It's kind of pointless(however hard not to) trying to speculate..We don't even know how he defines a "hit" show here..Is it a show like NCIS or CSI with very good ratings or does he refer to a show like Fringe,Supernatural or Vampire Diaries, which are fan favorites.I've seen a lot of articles referring to these shows (and others, like Gossip Girl) as hit shows..So,who knows..
ReplyDeleteVery curious(and a little nervous) though!
Fiona on Burn Notice...?
ReplyDeleteSpeculating, pointless? Wow and I thought that was exactly what this post was for. Color me embarrassed now.
ReplyDeleteI know it's hard not to speculate(I'm doing it too) and I know that the reason for this post is to talk about it..I just meant that with the information we have so far the possibilities are endless. That's all! : )
ReplyDeleteHow come no one is thinking Vampire Diaries? Damon or Stephen dying would be insanely ballsy. Or even someone anyone else on the show would be pretty intense.
ReplyDeleteI was about to say the same thing! He doesn't add to the show,he shows very little emotion, and those shades,i want to rip them off his face..
ReplyDeleteWow,you really feel that way? I think More people would watch if he wasn't in the show.He is the reason i stopped watching...
ReplyDeleteWell everyone knows she is leaving,it was made public last summer, so i don't think it would be a surprise and it certainly wouldn't shock anyone. :)
ReplyDeleteSomeone from Chuck.. its a ballsy move.. like a final season type move.
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong but i don't think its her.Meredith is to important, she opens and closes the show, and she talks to the audience during the show when needed......As i said i could be wrong and they might kill her off for that very reason.Who knows, but we will soon enough...
ReplyDeleteAs long as they leave White Collar and Supernatural out of it, I am ok with any other characters being killed off. Mind you, I don't think there's anyone left to be killed off in Supernatural, now that they've done away with Bobby. *sobs* And I can't imagine them killing off anyone in White Collar without seriously compromising the show, so I really hope not!
ReplyDeleteNow that would be BIG!
ReplyDeleteUmmm....I literally cannot think of anything. I'm sort of assuming it''s nothing I watch because I really cannot think of any major characters that could possibly be killed off.
ReplyDeleteDerek Shepherd (Grey's)... Patrick Dempsey wants to leave after this season.. can't imagine Grey's Anatomy without him in it...
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing he means Shane from The Walking Dead, but it is really not very shocking if Shane dies seeing as he never lived this long in the books to begin with.... Plus they foreshadowed it in the last episode of two.
ReplyDeleteNow it would be ballsy if they killed off Dale. Dale lives on much longer in the books, but his role is somewhat minimized in the TV series by the plot changes from book to screen.
Well, that's my minute or two spent on speculation.... I will likely cheer whoever's death he is hinting at sicneI think far too many TV characters live far too long. More should be dying even if it may offend some fans senses. Screw the fans, stay true to the story!
Daryl from The Walking Dead came to my mind.
ReplyDeleteOh come on ya have to give us a hint on which station it's going on!
ReplyDeleteThe only shows that killed off characters surprisingly no matter how major they were was 24, Lost, Buffy and Angel. No other shows have the balls to do it and stick with it. That is what made those shows so unpredictable particularly 24, i mean David Palmer and Michelle Dessler two of the most popular characters so shockingly and sudden in the first ten minutes of season five and then Edgar twelve episodes...that is what you call brave and edgy. Supernatural...one major character in seven seasons is not nearly the same. Who could forget Joyce, Tara and Fred from Buffy and Angel and Ana Lucia and Libby from Lost. So shocking
ReplyDeleteI wanna punch them into his face!
ReplyDeleteAgreed on all counts, but I might add two series to your list.
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones (for people who did not read the books of course). They killed off the 2 biggest actors on the series in the first year!Boardwalk Empire killed off one of its 4 big roles this season too and it was pretty shocking. I doubt they are going to bring him back in some supernatural way. I mean they showed the bullet hole in his head after all...
Ha! We keep this up people are going to say we need anger management classes,lol.. :D
ReplyDeleteI got it, you just gave me an opportunity to stretch my sarcastic muscles. I rarely get to do that on the internets, since it doesn't translate well most of the time. I'm glad you got it and took it well, most would be a little butthurt after that.
ReplyDeleteLet's narrow it down a little with the clues we do have.
This will be a main character, since Ausiello claims he doesn't see how the show will continue afterward, due to it being a pivotal character.
The actor doesn't like either the fact that they are being killed off, or the way in which they are being killed off, or both.
He also likened this departure to the big finale killing of a certain huge character in a certain HBO show. Let's just say it would be like killing off Shirley of Lavern and Shirley.
So ok you're right! It could be anyone.
My money is on Shane from The Walking Dead.
My thoughts exactly. i'm leaning towards Shane sine he likens this to "The Boardwalk Empire" death. Second "lead"
ReplyDeleteEvery time I watch that show I need an anger management class to undo all the hate I develop for "H", thus why I rarely if ever watch that show anymore.
ReplyDeleteSpoiler Alert Jack did die.
ReplyDeleteI'm just curious. Why Daryl, and not Shane, or Dale. I mean those are the first two that come to my mind, Shane because of the severity of it, and his character is heading down a dark path that can't end well, Dale because like someone else mentioned earlier; He is a close friend to Frank Darabont, so that tidbit a few months back about a cast member being up in arms about his departure could point to him, but who knows it could also point to Shane as well. Of course Dale leaving wouldn't be a big deal as far as story goes, i mean he's kinda just there, most or all of his dealings are a big nothing, except for the fact that he can't keep a secret or keep his big mouth shut.
ReplyDeleteDaryl on the other hand. is on a mission of redemption, he has so much more to do, I can see him leading a faction of the group, or even the group itself in the absence of Rick.
That would kill the show. I would actually rather see Burn Notice without Michael than without Sam or Fi.
ReplyDeletePlus, I think Kirkman really likes writing for these new characters on the TV series. It makes the "old" material fresh again when you write bits from a new perspective that was not in the books.
ReplyDeleteI guess that can apply to Shane as well to some extant since he was dead by now in the comics. Having him live this long made the "love triangle" more tension filled and added that chaos factor to the group that no other character really could bring to the level that Shane brings the chaos! XD
Altough after some thought, I'm not sure Jon Bernthal would be unhappy about beng killed off. I think he knows that Shane is living on borrowed time and he will be off the show sooner rather than later.
Now I can see Jeffrey DeMunn being annoyed at the prospects of being killed off. His character is supposed to survive for much longer and of course his tantrum over Durabont leaving caused a lot of tension too.
Who knows.... It may not be this series at all so I won;t dwell on it, but TWD could always use another death. In a death-around-the-corner world there always need to be more deaths to keep it grounded in reality and keep the feeling of insecurity and danger alive.
I hear ya,i watched 2 episodes and i couldn't get through either one....i really want to smack him when he stands there;legs slightly apart, his black jacket blowing in the breeze, his hands holding those damn glasses as he looks at the ground, then,he tilts his head up and looks at the dead person, injured person or he talks in that low calm voice. That's when i want to smack him....I really need the new shows to start.......like soon! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling pretty safe about White Collar and Burn Notice. USA Network isn't all that big on killing off main characters. They are nicknamed the blue skies network. No major rocking the boat for them, especially when they are so popular on basic cable.
ReplyDeleteHell someone mentioned earlier that it could just as well be Rick that gets killed, and Honestly it wouldn't phase me at all. Well it wouldn't make me sad, it would certainly be a surprise though.
ReplyDeleteI've never watched CSI, but I hear there's a "Nick Stokes" character. Purely from the verbal clues, that fits (stoke shock and awe; St. Nick). So that's my guess.
ReplyDeleteI don't really think it would be someone from The Walking Dead, because that show, like Lost, is about survivors. In groups of survivors, not everyone makes it. It's not shocking that characters will be dropping like flies. Amy, Jim, Sophia, the CDC characters, Otis, are not the last.
I fully expect that Shane will meet his maker one of these episodes, but I believe this spoiler is about "Nick Stokes."
Because of him, ever time I hear anyone make a snarky play on words in real life, I expect to hear The Who playing suddenly.
ReplyDeleteFor your viewing pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sarYH0z948
Tell me its not chuck of gossip girl.....
ReplyDeleteYou've...
ReplyDelete*puts on sunglasses*
Cracked the code.
24 had some of the best deaths on a tv series ever.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this refers to DH as its talking about the show continuing without said person...however apparently Mrs McCluskey's cancer comes back 'in a bad way' later this season...
ReplyDeleteI know!, death in SPN is cheaper than my ass after a few beers. I mean, it's really senseless and offers almost no shock value whatsoever, and its sad, because they only kill characters for the shock value :/
ReplyDeleteWhat I haven't seen in a while is a character instead of leaving for a new opportunity or being killed of, is a character leaving the show because the bonds (friendships, romantic liaisons) get broken.
Think Izzy on Grey's Anatomy (but done on purpose and well) or Riley on Buffy (but harsher)
Stephen Lang- Terra Nova- Dinosaur Chomping
ReplyDeleteSomeone in True Blood i tink! Eric maybe
ReplyDeleteBecause:
ReplyDelete1) TVD is getting lamer and lamer with every episode.
2) Nobody cares if someone dies on this show, they always end up alive or still comunicating with everyone and having their own story(exepct poor Matt).
Interesting analysis!
ReplyDeleteThat would be a surprise since they are already losing one of the founding team members in a few episodes. I don't follow the show online whatsoever so me not expecting that or being surprised does not mean much I guess. Maybe there have been rumors or talk....
I can see that fitting the anger or disappointment at his/her surprise death too. Shane's is almost expected at this point I believe....
Ha,no worries,it was a fun answer!
ReplyDeleteThe problem for me is that I don't watch too many shows,so I can't really offer an opinion outside the 4-5 shows I watch regularly.
But the popular answers are Shane from TWD,Nick from CSI or someone from Grey's Anatomy..
The most interesting part is the actor's reaction. The way I understood it (and I could be wrong)is that he just didn't like the how he's being killed off.Which means that he/she either knew it was coming or asked to be written off.Or it's simply a show that kills characters left and right and the actors have learned to be ready.
It would be easier if we knew what he means by hit show.I searched some past blind items and there was one just before the season finales about a shocking return. He also referred to it as "hit" and it turns out that he was talking about Vampire Diaries.Which means that it won't necessarily reflect rating numbers.
I'm very,very curious..Even if it's not a show I watch I really want to see the raction!
Without Michael...? Now, that would kill the show.
ReplyDeleteI just read a few answers over at TVLine..We're not really considering Sam,are we?!?Because I didn't even bother to worry about it..
ReplyDeleteThe way there setting up this season, Shane looking to be the really big bad for series so I can not see them kill his characters off.
ReplyDeleteArgh damn, now I know how it ends ahaa
ReplyDelete1) It's really not.
ReplyDelete2) It was a five episode arc in which a few minor characters returned. Get over it.
Again i could not make it through, but i did watch Jim Carry's take off on him. That as hilarious!... :D
ReplyDeleteI am ruling Fringe out just because everyone has alternates and killing of both characters at the same time would be extreme. And I could not think Peter is any danger nor Scarlie for that matter.
ReplyDeleteA seven year old show built around the premise of two brothers hunting evil would be insane to write out one of the brothers and continue. I don't think it could possibly be Sam. Plus both Jared and Jensen have said resigning contracts will be based on BOTH actors signing. I think this is an unlikely scenario.
ReplyDeleteNear as I can figure: hit to this site is something from the CW or NBC. I don't think CBS or ABC or HBO Or any other popular fan station hits or shares with Ausiello. So I figure I won't worry to much about this as I likely haven't gotten attached to what he calls a hit.
ReplyDeleteHasn't filming wrapped on Walking Dead? So if their is tension on the set, how could this be happening?
ReplyDeleteI don't quite understand your question. Yes filming has ended on season two as far as I know. As far as tension on set, there was a report on this very website about 6 weeks ago that someone in the cast was angry at the fact that Darabont got canned. Because of their disappointment, they told the new showrunner that they wanted to be written off the show. Later they had a change of heart (because they didn't like the way the character was getting written off), but at that point it was too late. I don't have the link but if you search through the Walking Dead stuff for the last couple of months you'll find it.
ReplyDeleteThis Ausiello Blind item concerns a soon to be aired episode of whatever he is speaking of, There are still some episodes of The Walking Dead yet to air, and they won't air until 2012.
Did that answer your question?
BETH FROM CRIMINAL MINDS.
ReplyDeleteNo idea at all!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I wouldn't say Shane is "incredibly popular"; not like Daryl. It seems like everywhere I look, Daryl's the most popular character. And besides, in the comics, Shane is supposed to be dead, so it wouldn't be a real big surprise. The only character that fits the bill of "major", "incredibly popular", and "tough to imagine the show without" is Daryl.
ReplyDeleteOf course, the show in question might not be The Walking Dead.
Popular or not, Shane is the second lead in the show, so due to him being made important in the Tv series, it would be a big deal if they kill him off, but I think they know what they're doing so it'll work. But you are right this may be a moot point since we don't know what show Ausiello is actually referring to. It seem, by the wording he's using that he might just be referring to Nick Stokes on CSI.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can tell, Norman Reedus is totally happy with the show, and its direction. He was the one who tweeted the "it's a wrap" concerning season two's filming, hence he makes it till the end of season two at least. If they kill Daryl it will be a big mistake in my opinion he the only guy on there with the balls to take the lead if need be, other than Rick and Shane, Shane being compromised, and Rick being blinded by his wife's "situation".
Puts hands over ears {O.O} LALALALALALALALA!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs long it is not on NCIS, when you see a show for 7 and a half years, the characters becomes like family. To kill of a major character is a betrayal of the viewers
ReplyDeleteHeddy from NCIS LA!
ReplyDeleteThat never even crossed my mind.Especially since they wanted us to believe that last season? I don't think they would do that again so soon? :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so true,i feel exactly the same.We have invested so much of our own lives with there lives, that it has become family, albeit one-sided. :)
ReplyDeleteprobably someone from the walking dead D:
ReplyDeletenorman reedus has tweeted to say he isn't leaving, doubt he would lie
ReplyDelete
