American Horror Story - Season 2 - Five possible clues

28 Dec 2011

Went through the episode frame by frame and here are the Top 5 clues from Birth that might hint at the season two location.

Possible Location #1: Vermont
The episode opens in 1984 with Newhart playing on the television in the background. The show, which ran from 1982 to 1990, took place at an inn ... rife for the haunting?

Possible Location #2: Florida
This has been a popular theory with fans. The location was repeatedly mentioned throughout the season since it's where Vivien's sister Jill lives. Plus, there is no shortage of dead people in the retirement capital of America.

Possible Location #3: A Geographically Irrelevant Prison
Psychic Billie Dean Howard (played by the divine Sarah Paulson) has a long soliloquy about paramagnetic grip -- how evil can be absorbed by an environment. She says, "You see it all the time in places like prisons or asylums. Negative energy feeds on trauma and pain. It draws those things to it." This echoes a sentiment Ryan expressed during the conference call: "There are all different kinds of horror stores to tell, be it serial killing stories or true crime stories or prison stories."

Possible Location #4: North Carolina circa 1590
In an attempt to help Violet expunge Chad from the house, Billie Dean tells her a story about a Ghost Colony that lived in Roanoke around the turn of the century.

Possible Location #5: London, England
In the episode, two doctors treat Vivien: Dr. Marchesi and the unseen Dr. Hall. Well, Marchesi Hall is located in St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

  1. Truthfully, I don't think it'll be any of these - He said frame by frame, so I'm assuming something in the background.

  2. It's probably on a brochure for something ... for all we know he thinks a tube of Preparation H is a clue and the H stands for some random town in Arkansas.

    1. Haha I live in Arkansas and the only thing we have scary here is red necks with guns lol

  3. Yeah I also think it's a graphic clue, like in Fringe :)

  4. I hope for a prison. Maybe a way to bring back Denis O`Hare? But then again, as Klutzy i dont think it`s any of these.

  5. It can' t be London, England...it is called American Horror Story after all.  I could maybe see Roanoke being an option, as they showed they have no problem taking a real life story and putting their spin on it.  I hope it's not Florida...

  6. I'd agree with you! If it were to be any of these, I prefer the 3rd option. :)

  7. Pretty cool theories all. #4 would be very interesting to see their take on a "period piece" and a huge mystery that exists today, and I think that #3 is the mist plausible of the lot, but I too agree that the hint wasn't any of these......

  8. So, I have been looking 4 a clue like I do in Fringe, and the only time I need it to watch frame by frame is when Ben realize that everybody is dead in the house and this image shows up:  http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mJ4dwTpFMUQ/Tvurrl0Q-eI/AAAAAAAAAA4/amwHInBtacs/s1600/Untitled+%2528Time+0_26_28%253B17%2529.jpg

Maybe is a clue, maybe not, any ideas? Maybe the house or building of season 2 have the image, can some one tell me what it is?

  9. Well that is very interesting,thanks Klutzy_girl... :)

  10. Interesting, is that the mural maybe?
Anyway, I don't know what it is but it reminds me of the statue of Mary holding Jesus over her lap but in reverse.

  11. Another possible location: Illinois. Larry mentioned he was being transferred to a prison in Illinois.

  12. I actually thought the Newhart clip was from the original "Bob Newhart Show" which took place in Chicago.

  13. There you go. The answer is: Chicago.

  14. good thinking, but in a previous interview with Ryan Murphy he said that Larry was done

  15. good observation, makes sense to me cuz the kid is supposed to be the anti christ so a ghastly reversed version of that sacred image plays well into that arc. Cool of them to go into such detail. Doesnt this show have great photography, especially in comparison to anything on basic cable

  16. yeah i believe its gonna be a visual clue like maybe this one in birth at 1 min 5 sec when tate goes in the basement a box will fall shortly after a chandelier will cross tates head pay attention to the big crystal in the middle of the chandelier there looks to be a old beige house/building w/ a greenish roof - it could be the next house/asylum

  17. Yeah me too, but I can't link this pic with the new place :/ lol

  18. I know. But I'm still thinking it was a hint as to the location, whether or not we see Larry. Hope it is. I'm an Illinoisan, and that would be exciting.

  19. Some thoughts from above:
    Chicago (Newhart show)
Prison -  Illinois. Larry mentioned he was being transferred to a prison in Illinois
Prison angle mentioned by Ryan and the psychic
There is a defunct and amazingly scary, limestone and granite castle-like prison in Joliet, IL that is often used for movies and TV shows -- it would make for a great haunting location....

  22. Oh, and one more thing - the AHS twitter page had this on it:
“Noisy little monster… tell you anything?”
The Joliet prison actually briefly housed John Wayne Gacy, whose father nicknamed him “Little Monster” because of his constant crying as an infant.

  23. And there's a Chicagoland Haunted House tour every Hallowe'en.

  24. I think the last few people could be on to something...Just as I thought...I am from chicago...and I watched that last episode but still could not figure it out but thought it could be a simple as the Devil Baby that supposedly was born at the Hull House in Chicago...Starting in the summer of 1913, Jane Addams and the residents of the Hull-House settlement grappled with an onslaught of visitors who came seeking the “Devil Baby”-- an imagined infant who was rumored to have been born out of a fatherly curse in the neighborhood and hidden away at Hull-House.
While Addams made clear that there was no such baby at the settlement, she valued the meanings embedded in the tale for immigrants, and used the story to frame social problems made clear during the course of the episode. I got this info off of the webite Jane addams Hull-House. Also, go to this website and read everything about the Hull House... http://www.prairieghosts.com/hull.html...

I could very well be completely wrong about my Idea of the next season being about the Hull House but it could be a huge possiblity...Other than that...I think it could be a mental hospital (ben seeing himself in a corner acting crazy) or a Prison as some of you suggested... We will have to see!

  25. That could be it...Smart thinking:)

  26. Also, the actor playing Larry is named Dennis O'Hare. There's an O'Hare airport in Chicago.

  27. just saying but they never mentioned constance's fourth child and if am not mistaken they said the fourth was the only normal one maybe season 2 will be about constances fourth child but who knows i just want season 2 to come already

  28. Did anyone else figure out that there's no way it can be the last of the 5? It's AMERICAN Horror Story. They can't take it over into London.

    ReplyDelete
  29. the record that played during Jessica Lang's song read "Congress", gunna take place in the government? And Ryan was quoted as saying its going to take place in the "true horror" of America
