-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS maintained leadership in the Tuesday overnights, beating second-place ABC by 36 percent. In the distant No. 3 spot was Fox, which has sprung a leak with Glee, followed by NBC and, of course, The CW. Dominance among key adults 18-49 could also fall in CBS’ corner.

As always, NCIS on CBS at 8 p.m. took top-rated overnight honors with a 12.7 rating/20 share at 8 p.m., which was right on par from one year earlier. Next was spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#2: 9.8/15 at 9 p.m.), which trailed the live Dancing With the Stars Results Show on ABC (#1: 11.0/17) by 11 percent, followed by full season-renewed Unforgettable at a dominant 8.0/14 at 10 p.m. One year earlier, former Tuesday 10 p.m. occupant The Good Wife was stronger at a 9.1/15 in the overnights on 11/09/10.

Over at ABC, week five of sitcom Last Man Standing, which was just picked up for the remainder of the season, dipped to a series-low 6.1/ 9 (#2) at 8 p.m. Even so, this is still an improvement of 20 percent from the first-half of failed year-ago occupant No Ordinary Family (5.1/ 8 on 11/09/10). Next was week four of Man Up!, which fell 30 percent from Last Man Standing with a third-place 4.3/ 7 at 8:30 p.m. The second-half of No Ordinary Family one year earlier was stronger with a 5.2/ 8 at 8:30 p.m. Four-episode overnight track for Man Up!: 5.2/ 8 – 4.7/ 7 – 4.3/ 7 – 4.3/ 7.

Capping off the evening for ABC was 10 p.m. special In the Spotlight With Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville at a second-place 6.1/10 in the overnights. Compared to failed year-ago occupant Detroit 1-8-7 (5.4/ 9), this was an increase of 13 percent. Retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars (11.3/17) was weak, however, at 54 percent.

On Fox, the “too much too soon” syndrome has negatively impacted Glee, which finished a distant second overall in the 8 p.m. hour with a 5.4/ 8. Compared to one year earlier (7.6/11 on 11/09/10), this was a loss of a noticeable 29 percent. With weaker lead-in support, sitcom New Girl at 9 p.m. (#3: 5.0/ 8), which is still poised for time period victory among adults 18-49, scored a third-place 5.0/ 8 at 9 p.m. Compared to its inflated opener on Sept. 20, this is a loss of 32 percent. Take a look at New Girl’s five episode overnight track:

New Girl (Fox)
9/20/11: 7.4/11 (#3)
9/27/11: 6.3/ 9 (#3)
10/04/11: 6.0/ 9 (#3)
11/01/11: 5.1/ 8 (#3)
11/08/1: 5.0/ 8 (#3)

Fox’s sophomore Raising Hope dipped to a fourth-place 3.4/ 5 at 9:30 p.m. -- 32 percent below New Girl.
But this is still a considerable improvement over failed year-ago occupant Running Wilde (2.1/ 3 out of a 3.9/ 6 for Raising Hope at 9 p.m. on 11/09/10).

Elsewhere, The Biggest Loser on NBC remains on the downside with a 4.0/ 6 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Compared to one year earlier (4.6/ 7 on 11/09/10), this was a loss of 13 percent. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

The Biggest Loser (NBC)
8:00 p.m.: 3.9/ 6 (#4)
8:30 p.m.: 4.0/ 6 (#4)
9:00 p.m.: 3.8/ 6 (#4)
9:30 p.m.: 4.2/ 6 (33)

At 10 p.m., NBC’s
Parenthood remains out of the competitive loop in the overnights with a distant third-place 3.5/ 6 (which was equal to one year earlier). But demographically it will narrow the gap in the key categories opposite In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville and Unforgettable.

The CW capped off the evening with its low-rated combination of 90210 (#5: 1.4/ 2) and recently introduced Ringer (#5: 1.5/ 2), which has not benefited from the added encore exposure in recent weeks.

  2. I don't think the drop in viewership is reflective of Season 3... I think it reflects how strange, meandering, and lop-side Season 2 was. I'm enjoying this season MUCH more than the previous one. Then again, Quinn's story is actually the worst thing I've ever seen. I have to fast forward through her parts for fear of punching my TV in the face.

  3. Well...It seems like Glee is actually hurting The New Girl's ratings.
    Interesting.

  6. I'm not enjoying Glee this season. I think at the end of Season 3, when the characters move on to college, will be a good place to end it, rather than bringing in a load of new characters.

  7. I'm surprised Glee didn't see a spike in its ratings with the content of this week's episode

  8. Can't believe Ringer isn't holding up... Although i have to admit last night's episode was not the best.

  9. The New Girl was renewed like almost a month ago.
So it literally has almost zero chance of being cancelled.

GLEE on the other hand...might have 1-2 more seasons in it before they dump it.

  11. Glee doesn't really seem the type of show to have a huge amount of seasons. I think 4 or 5 should probably be it's max before it stops being fun. That's all I really watch it for anymore, a bit of fun. Let's face it, without the music, Season 2 would have been the most boring season of television in a long time. It does seem a bit more interesting this season though.
As for New Girl and Ringer, I really hope they pick up a bit, they're two of my "Have to watch" shows of the week.

  12. Glee ratings have dipped because creatively it really screwed up from mid s1/majority of S2 and when a show messes up that much it can sometimes be impossible to recover from. But it won't be cancelled not for a long time because they make so much money from the songs on ITunes and all the merchandise that ratings are not the biggest factor in the show's survival.

  13. I agree Quinn's story is terrible, but the few songs choice are good. This season 3 Glee lost your way.

  14. Glee's current predicament reminds me of Heroes. Great first season, great ratings and then season 2 arrives...

  15. Yes and then it was all downhill from there

  16. Glee is tanking hard.
