Ratings Breakdown:
ABC opened the week on a typically winning overnight note, but the debut of game show You Deserve It squandered the lead-in support from Dancing With the Stars. A one-hour edition of Dancing With the Stars took top-rated honors for the evening, as usual, with a 13.5 rating/21 share (which dipped by 16 percent from the 16.1/24 in the hour on 11/23/10). You Deserve It, which did not deserve the lead-in support, dipped to a 5.8/ 9 at 9 p.m., with retention of just 42 percent out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars (13.8/21). You Deserve It, additionally, slipped by 13 percent at 9:30 p.m. (6.3/ 9 to 5.5/ 8).

As for the live season-finale of Dancing With the Stars tonight, this is probably the toughest season to predict the winner. Although Ricki Lake overall is really the best of the trio, sleeper Rob Kardashian picked up momentum at a pivotal time and J.R. Martinez tore the house down, so to speak, in the second dance. While Rob could benefit by the mega Kardashian twitter following and J.R. by his amazing stamina, the target older skewing female audience could work in Ricki’s favor. My pick to win: Ricki Lake.

At 10 p.m., Castle on ABC perked up to a time period winning 7.8/13. Growth for Castle out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of You Deserve It (5.5/ was a significant 42 percent.

Second-place CBS, which is poised for nightly victory among adults 18-49, had another consistent Monday with its solid combination of How I Met Your Mother (#2: 6.8/10), freshman hit 2 Broke Girls (#2: 7.3/11), Two and a Half Men (#1: 10.4/15), Mike & Molly (#1: 8.6/13) and Hawaii Five-O (#2: 7.2/12). All four of the CBS comedies remained on the year-to-year plus side as follows:

How I Met Your Mother: +17 percent
2 Broke Girls: +46 percent (from Rules of Engagement)
Two and a Half Men: + 9
Mike & Molly: + 5

Only Hawaii Five-O was on the downside, with erosion of 15 percent from the 8.5/14 on 11/22/10.

Third-place Fox had a typical Monday with its combination of Terra Nova (#3: 4.4/ 7), which as predicted is not a hit or a miss, and deteriorating House (#3: 5.2/ 8). One year earlier, House on Monday scored a 6.3/ 9 in the overnights at 8 p.m. on 11/22/10.

NBC, meanwhile, remained out of the competitive loop as a result of two more hours of reality/competition The Sing Off (#4: 3.0/ 4 from 8-10 p.m.) and week four of minimally seen newsmagazine Rock Center with Brian Williams (#3: 2.8/ 5 at 10 p.m.). And The CW capped it off with barely any overnight interest, as usual, in Gossip Girl (#5: 1.2/ 2), which should be calling it quits in the spring, and recent entry Hart of Dixie (#5: 1.4/ 2).

  1. CW: +86%. Surely this a misprint?!? Did last year's evening only average a 0.7/1?

  4. Yay for Castle!

  5. You Deserve It truly deserves a swift cancellation. I'm glad Castle was able to recover from that terrible lead-in.

  6. I tuned in to watch Castle and had football instead. Was it delayed? Or just pre-empted in my area?

  7. With the quality of stories Castle and Co have produced this season, they have become the meat grinder all competitors must face if they so dare in that time period.

  9. These ratings and the producers of GossipGirl still act as if they'd get another season! REEDEECULIOUS, as Louis would say.^^

  10. If I was American I would've watched Five-0 and recorded Castle.  Teh episode of Steve being captured by Wo Fat was a must wait for the past few weeks so I was into that than finding out that Sniper was back on Castle.  The Castle premiere was just bland to me so I wasn't really that interested than Five-0
