I voted Great. Good twist that I didn't see coming. I'd like to see a bigger cast with more regulars, and I'd like to see Carter come over to Finch and Reese's side. And while I'm wishing, it would be nice to see Michael Emerson get out of that room more. And he's a good eye actor, so I'd like to see those glasses come off. But I'll give it time to build.
Heh. The guy from the Geico commercial was still acting like the guy from the Geico commercial.
I loved the little smirk Reese gave as Charlie picked up The Count of Monte Cristo and the student said Edmund is pretty cool! Jim Caiezel played Edmond Dantes in the 2002 version! XD
Although for some reason seeing that novel immediately made me think that Charlie was Elias... The book and comments he made about the Russians, the fact he didn't use cell phones etc...
I really like the idea of Enrico Colantoni as Elias.... for however long he continues to live free. XD
Overall I think this was a really fun episode, but not "Awesome" either... I voted "Great".
I was hoping Goodwin from Lost would show up more in a recurring role. I guess being part of Finch's backstory, maybe he is dead in the current time frame... even possibly one of the reasons Finch is doing this now.
Enjoyed this ep and loved seeing Enrico and Enver onscreen, and really liked the twist at the end (wasn't expecting that) that moved the mythology story along.... obvs we're going to be seeing "Charlie" again....
I was so busy thinking about the obvious level of the use of The Count of Monte Cristo that the deeper layers never occurred to me. I love the fact that they got more than one use out of the book. kewl.
When he first thanked Reese I knew he was Elias. Because if it was someone else, he/she would be horrified but not this guy - he was calm, patient like he knew for sure he`s gonna survive. And all the metaphors he used. Person who faces death is not calm and poetic but nervous as hell. I don`t know. For me...there was something odd with this guy from the very beginning. I can`t explain it better than that :-D
And I don`t know about other people, but me and my brother agreed this show had only briliant episodes. The only thing I didn`t like in this one was the dialog at the end between Reese and Finch about not recognizing Elias. Caviezel`s perforamnce was wooden even though he tried to be more emotional. As far as I`m concerned the wooden performance is great for the 99% of the episode but at the end it needed to be more emotional and I don`t think that kind of acting suits Caviezel.
I voted Great! ---The show is starting to get more complex, which I think is a good thing. It's starting to seem like a lot may continue to center the Bulgarians(?) and the Russians, considering we have seen a lot of things relating to buying real estate and such. I like how the shows are ending with loosen ends and can only hope things become more inter related.
Reese himself touched on a good point about the machine at the end, that by saving this man's life, how many more will spit out of the machine in danger because of that? (It's typically very Abrams-empericism - something FRINGE fans are dealing with now -the differences one person can make). The show gets better and better every week. I think the actors are starting to more comfortably find their places.
" Enrico is such a genial actor and he played Elias so genially...I really like the idea of this non-assuming guy being a major bad guy (...)"
This is truly italian mafia style. If you search for photos and stories about the bosses took down by authorities these last decades in Italy, they look like humble peasants, some even look poor, badly dressed with worned clothes... some of them are not even registered at birth so they spend a "stealth" life of complete anonimity with no documents to proove who they are. I remember a case back in the nineties with a "capo" named Toto Riina; one of the major problems to pursue with courts and trials was that he could not be identified simply because he wasn't registered at birth and never had any official resgistration, be it a school certificate, a drivers license, nothing at all. The first months alone - after being caught - were to prove that that humble-looking man aparently uncapable to read (!) was indeed "il capo dei capi" in those days.
The temptation of voting "Awesome" was big but had to vote just "Great" because I don't want to worn out the "Awesome" button: I suspect that several episodes will show that!
Besides the story, I really want to give an applause to all the actors. This show is brilliant through their acting. Enough said.
I still think it's too soon to tell how alike or different they are. I truly think he was cast for the part because of his former presentation of dubiousness... I think with out Finch's full back story we don't know what his drive is and we don't know if using this machine really helps save lives (as Reese stated, by saving this man, how many more did we just put in harms way?) --Although I think Finch cares about saving people, I am not sure to what end he is trying to meet.
The voice is unmistakeable, but when I think of Ben Linus, I see those scary blue eyes. Here they are hidden behind glasses. I wonder if that was done on purpose, to help segue from Linus to Finch.
Know I see what you're saying and visually there is a difference, but I am not convinced yet, thinking about Nolan works (The Prestige), that these things are not also disguises from whomever he could be hiding from...
This site,SPOILERTV is causing me to miss most of the shows that i watch!...My fingers keep typing and the next thing i know prime time is over!!! I"M addicted, bad bad SPOILERTV!!!! HA!!!!!!!
Enrico Colantoni is, for me, one of the most under-used actors around: if this does play out long-term I will be so thrilled! RIP Sheriff Mars, there's a new man running things...
Query: isn't he in some Canadian police show? I hope that doesn't mean the arc episodes will be few and far between.
He is on CTV's Flashpoint, but I think they have a different shooting schedule. I don;t expect it to be a problem....
Plus I read that this Elias arc would run for a handful of episodes. I think they should be a run of episodes more than random episodes with a lot of time between.
Agreed on Enrico Colantoni. He is brilliant at comedy and Drama. It's too bad I don't like Flashpoint since I absolutely love both Enrico and Hugh Dillon as actors!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

I guessed the twisted when Burton mentioned having a foster dad.
ReplyDeleteI liked this episode a lot. The Elias storyline is becoming more interesting than I thought it would be.

ReplyDeleteThey got me! I love being totally surprised at the ending. I was completely convinced that the cop was Elias.

They got me, too. We were Keyser Sose'd.

Yep, it's hard to see him in another role, but like your I'm slowly letting go

I dont know about others, but I always thought that this show was gonna be awesome, and it has been... this episode was not different.
ReplyDeleteFor me is the best episode of the season so far.
ReplyDeleteShould've known that he wasn't that innocent. This series keeps getting better and better and it was a nice treat to see Victor again.
ReplyDeleteCould Jim Caviezel/Reese speak a little bit clearer? He's always rumbling
