  1. Seriously...Who in the hell votes awful for a show of this caliber?

I started watching this last week by playing catch-up with On Demand. I'm sold. This show has a very cinematic feel, a great cast, awesome characters, realistic writing, visual appeal, nice plot elements, a great storyline, even the b storylines are nice. I love the political stuff, the racial tension, the "man on a mission" (which I predict will be ended this season, with new "problems" arising each season), the damsel in distress, and a railroad that will take six years to build.

I generally don't prefer "westerns" but this one has it all. I expect nothing less from the people behind "The Sopranos". Breaking Bad eat your heart out, there's a new Sheriff in town.

  2. I haven't missed even one episode of "Hell on Wheels," and I don't plan to. This is spectacular. And as far as the three Awful votes go, why on Earth would you watch so obviously a genre show if you dislike the genre enough to vote Awful? Within its style--Western--this is as good as it gets, and nobody could see even five minutes of it without knowing what it is, so why bother to watch at all...unless you just WANT to vote Awful, in which case you're a jackass.

  3. I can see some one not enjoying the series for whatever their reasons may be (even if they are obviously wrong), but I will never understand not recognizing quality and moreover coming back each week to vote terrible!

If I don't like something THAT much I will not continue to watch it. Period.

  4. I guess some people may like the more Hollywood bastardized version of Westerns where everyone was clean, there was no puddle of human waste in the middle of every "street" and it was basically a kind place except for the occasional gunfight when the town clock struck noon. XD

Shows like Deadwood and Hell on Wheels show so much more of the real old West than most movies. It's just sad some people are turned off by the reality and prefer the fiction.

  5. I enjoyed that Cullen's revenge plot was put aside for a bit this episode and he had to concentrate on his job as new foreman. After all he hasn't been doing much so far and they need to finish a lot more miles before Durant starts getting his money.

I found Lily to be pretty interesting. Don't know what her motive is, but she's trying to play Durant and keeping secrets from him. Not sure if he's suspecting anything yet, but I would be disappointed if an intelligent, but also ruthless guy like him wouldn't.

Wasn't a fan of that "romantic" vibe between Elam and Eva. Elam hasn't been doing alot for me so far. He is angry, but apart from being a supressed minority there is not a lot of story for him.
The McGinnes borther are also way too separated from the main story. I know they are supposed to be those guys who want to make it in the new world, but so far they aren't really clicking with the main story.

And why the hell was the Swede wiping up the floor nakes? Weird...

  6. I finally watched the episode which i thought was great but my burning question is:

Why the hell is The Swede washing or wiping the floor in the nude? What did i miss??

  7. I missed that part. You're the second person to say that. I must have walked out to smoke a cigarette during that scene. When in the episodes did it happen?

  8. Right around 40 minutes into the show, after Durant and Lily had dinner in his quarters(on the train),i forget what happens right after but it only lasts a few moments, then you see The Swede with his legs folded underneath him, wiping or washing the floor. The lamp is the only light on so at first you might not catch it,but there he is.I thank god he wasn't standing with a mop in his hands,i would of cracked up...check it out.

  9. I just watched the ep again, (Got my dad into it Ha!) and I saw it. Yeah...uh...only thing I can think is that he's exhibiting behavior from his past when he was a prisoner of war. You know how quirky he is with his food and such (only eating what he needs to survive). I guess he just goes into prisoner mode sometimes when he gets alone.

  10. That does appear to be the logical reason for his behavior,it did not dawn on me when i watched it..Lucky for him he's so thin, that's the only reason he could off pull eating like that, food certainly was scarce at that time, even when there was food most of the time it was rancid. It seems allot of dads get turn on to this show,my farther always loved westerns,he grew up with them.Even now he watches AMC all the time!
