A pretty decent episode elevated by the always brilliant Carrie Preston. Her character is so welcome.
If I had one wish for this show though, it would be that Cary become less annoying. He has so much vitriol towards Lockhart Gardner when he took the job knowing there was a 50/50 chance that him losing the job was the outcome. Especially since he's been shown to be a vastly inferior lawyer. I honestly don't know why the show keeps wasting time on him. They should switch his character with Monica Raymund. She absolutely sparkles when she's on screen. I definitely liked that there was a lot of Diane as Christine Baranski makes everyone. I look forward to Kalinda and Alicia renewing their friendship though Kalinda has been vastly underutilized this season.
DIdn't you catch the part this episode where he flat out told Peter they need to drop the case or defer to another department because of their history, and that acting on it would only be the backhanded thing to do? Then Peter said "OK you're in charge" and pretty much forced him to go after Will Gardner? I think this reflects more on Peter than Cary.
Kalinda HAS been vastly underutilized this season! But I'm hoping that will change *fingers crossed*. Otherwise I thought the epidode was fantastic. And I feel like Cary has reasons to be bitter - expected or not, you work as many angles and as many hours as Cary did at LG, it's hard not to be bitter. Especially when you suspect that favoritism might have had something to do with it. At this point though, I feel like most of the bitterness has morphed into competitiveness.
I think there's a little too much Eli these days (don't get me wrong, I love him, but in smaller doses) and if anyone should get scaled back its him. I enjoyed the reprieve this week (just not the total lack of Kalinda that also resulted).
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Great episode, loved the case this week.
ReplyDeleteWow, 'Awfuls'? Really? I thought this was a great episode and proof that our show really has it's A-game back!
