  1. Obvious twist was obvious

And based on the video on this page (Scott Buck: "Get Gellar") they intended it to be very shocking.

  2. Yeah it was obvious. But I enjoyed the episode a lot. Feels more like Dexter of old. Glad it's picking up.

  3. 12 votes for Awful? REALLY? Are you OK people?

  4. Well I am actually glad for the story that Gellar is dead (and of Travis' mind).

As for Green, I remember the first time I saw him...the way he wanted to to know everything about Dexter, how overly friendly and helpful he is reminded me of Brian too, and I had wondered if the interns were in a cult together. My thoughts changed a bit when he displayed his high-tech skills, I thought maybe he was CIA or FBI undercover. The hand doesn't necessarily mean anything, but the music they played with it sure did  --I had also suspected if Green was an "Ice Truck Killer" fan, then he might know a lot of things...additionally when Brian appeared before Dexter in "Nebraska", he kept telling Dexter it was weird to see him with a kid, and at one point Dexter didn't feel good about Harrison being with them when they were discussing things and he put him to bed. IMO I would think if Brian would be alive, especially with how he felt about Deb's relationship with Dexter, I would think his jealousy would put both Harrison and Deb lives in jeopardy!

As for Deb's psycho-logist, I have to say she is a pretty bad one! --Not because she could lead Deb to know the truth about Dexter, but that her own advise to Deb about accepting other people for who they are, goes against the belief of what a psychologist is suppose to help someone with, and that is "change" (aka if Deb is couch, then the psychologist should just accept that she is a couch  ). Additionally I think she is really bad for yet another reason, her philosophy/method of trying to help Deb makes Deb feel worse about herself and is going to cause Deb to isolate herself further...

Anyways I still like how the season ties back to the show's season one roots by forcing them all to take a look back at themselves and challenge the character's perception of progress!

  5. I think the season is expressing the psychological aspect of humanity, since one can argue that it is what we feel that creates our beliefs and interprets them into rituals and the pursuit of knowledge to prove those beliefs to ourselves...It's my experience that most people don't like to think about that...but I personally think it's a great topic and I love how that has been explored with an actual psychologist, schizophrenics, beliefs in theology, and beliefs in evolution (2lot - Nature is chaos, chaos is truth)  and how we all have to grapple with identity and change.

  6. Maybe I'm the minority, but I didn't see any of the twists coming. If anything, I figured that Travis was more involved than he said he was, but I didn't think Gellar was in his head like that. I also didn't see it coming that Green had the hand. I'm really curious to see where the rest of the season goes now

  7. Called it back in like episode two. Seriously it was getting more obvious as the season progressed to the point where I was practically screaming at this week's episode to just do the big reveal.  If the writers intended it to be a shocking twist though they failed big time, I certainly wasn't the only one who figured it out.  Bit disappointing really hoping the finale has a genuine twist.

  8. I don't think it's as shocking for us, as it is for Dexter. I think it's about how Dexter's (and his DP) going to handle it in conjunction to what ever happens with Louis Green (thinking about Jamie and Harrison), Deb, and whatever LaGuarte has up her sleeve that is going to have to be the shocking thing...

  9. Agreed. Most of the fans have been speculating since the beginning. I just wish they hadn't dragged it on for so long.

  10. It was an ok episode, I kind of just want this season over with so we can get on with the next one, everything feels stifled and stale and forced

  11. I never really thought about the threat to Harrison because of creepy Louis yeah that might be interesting.

  12. Not a great episode.  Too many of this season's plot lines are starting to veer off into directions I'm not fond of.

     - Masuka's intern probably has some serial killer obsession.  He already seems to have a man-crush on Dexter.  Neither are good developments.
     - It turns out Dex's nanny is just a bland plot helper, which is barely one step above last year's nanny who was just a character with no story at all.
     - Another "Dex rebelliously dismissing Harry's concerns" plot is really tiresome.
     - The Travis twist was obvious by now and should have been revealed long ago to avoid the "duh" factor.
     - Quinn is officially unwatchable now.
     - Batista's mid-life crisis plot has gone absolutely nowhere.

    On the plus side:
     - Deb's psychiatry storyline may be finally setting up the reveal about Dex's dark passenger.
     - LaGuerta and the Captain plotting against Deb has finally given LaGuerta an interesting storyline.

  13. I was one of them. ... it was so obviously analogous to Dexter and his Dark Passenger from episode 1.

I have enjoyed the season, but it's not as good as the last 2 years or Season 1 to me.

  14. I think Jaime is not just a plot helper and may have a  role to play yet.... She seems to be following in Deb's footsteps in falling for a serial killer.

Techboy is either a killer already or wants to know what it feels like to be a killer due to his unhealthy obsession.Between him pursuing Dexter for information or as a mentor and Deb's pyshotherapy... I think this year we are closer than ever to Deb actually realizing big bro is a big bad.I think Dex rebelling against Harry is a part of the series makeup much like not knowing who the mother is on How I met Your Mother. People may tire of it, but it's the very foundation of the series. The Dark Passenger = Dark Professor stroyline was obvious from episode 1 I think. I still enjoyed the ride, but I think they underestimated their audience and the big boom was more a dud.Quinn. and Batista are played out to me too , but also LaGuerta and Masuka.. They are all ok in small doses as supporting cast, but when they get their own season long arcs it's anything but new or fun. That was large part of why I liked last year so much. One of the major focuses of the season was a new player that added something entirely new and different to the series instead of just the same old support team blues.

  15. I feel a little different about it, because nobody is in the same role they were in before and it's the changes in that that reflect these breakdowns....If something happens to Jamie, and Batista is held up because of Quinn, think of how that will effect him. Simultamously, if Dexter is dealing with Travis, then Greene can move in and get Dexter's attention not just with Jamie, but Harrison. Then we have Deb, who is clearly being set up to fail, but is also being led to the truth that she never let herself 'connect the dots' about Dexter which then parallels herself with Brian...Deb, like Dexter constantly devoids herself of truth, and unfortunately this psychologist is pushing her to know this at the worst time possible and way too fast!

     - Very true.  I completely agree.  Dexter audiences are savvier than the writing has indicated this season.

"but also LaGuerta and Masuka.. They are all ok in small doses as

     - I wish they'd come up with a proper Masuka story but this season they've used him as a catalyst for someone else's subplot.

     - Amen.  Characters like Det. Mike Anderson and Travis Marshall don't come close to what Lumen, Det. Liddy, & Jordan Chase brought to the table last season.  The one real interesting newbie was Brother Sam and he only lasted six episodes.

  17. I think last season was in itself a more hopeful season, so in that I would agree I like the atmosphere of season five better....but I felt that it was a prelude to a 'deep' dark serious season. I think everything is about to change and things feel like they are just dangling on their heads. -Almost like the writers really wanted it too feel like the character's awareness to things, a slow burn... I think season five still relates here too, because Jordan Chase really made fans aware of the idea of how power our beliefs can be...how we can 'talk' ourselves into things...

This season is very different because it's about the innate and the unseen...the psychological introverted aspect of beliefs...so there's less action to convey that actions still come from thoughts and feelings...and what happens when we experience change too fast, and come to terms with what is the difference between reality and delusion, especially when you didn't know????

I feel bad for Travis, but I think we haven't really gotten a chance to see him unhinged...when 'Gellar' will fully take over...

I also don't think we know enough about Anderson to judge him...he started out nice, but then suddenly go mouthy, and now it's like the writers put him on the back burner, which IMO means 'watch out!' I also wonder of Louis miraculously had recovered Liddy's computer, because I feel like he has been written as "high tech" for a reason....????????????????

  18. I don't have a problem with a darker narrative (this is Dexter after all), nor do I have any issues with the more spiritual and psychological main themes of season six.  I really believe that the end result could be something special.

My issue is with the journey to that aforementioned result.  While the destination may end up being really great, the journey there has to be just as interesting as well and I believe Dexter did a better job with that last season.

  19. Well if anything season 5 suggested that the characters can grow and expand, that 'fate' was on their side...season six so far has taken the hope of season 5 and said, forget it. You are all lost and fate is against you. (The reason I say 'fate' is because everything is written in such a way, such as season 4 with trinity and dexter and deb with family, and season six with Brian, suggests "relative" narrative. Things are meant to be connected)...So Dexter and Deb did a better job, because they believed they could and the obsticles of season 5 didn't directly relate to their pasts...but the writers are saying...can anyone really progress? -What's really important? Can people change?...

  20. But, But...haven't we seen enough interactions with Gellar to surmise that he is REAL??

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thought so too, but apparently not. I also found Travis' change of mind after discovering that Gellar was dead all along very hard to believe. Sure, he's a lunatic, but he wanted out of it right before...
