Poll - What Is Your Favourite New TV Series?

7 Oct 2011

Hey Guys,

Now that the TV season is a few weeks old, I've put together a poll where you can vote for up to your top three favourite TV Series that have started for the Fall TV Season.

This isn't a poll about what will survive, won't survive, it's simply a poll to see which shows you think are good and which you think are bad.

Remember you can vote for up to three shows...

I'll have undoubtedly missed some which have already started airing, so let me know in the 'other' category and I'll add them in asap.

Adam

  1. I voted for Person Of Interest, Pan Am & Terra Nova.

That being said, I watched the Prime Suspect pilot last night and thought it was great, I like Up All Night & New Girl as well, so there's plenty of decent stuff this season so far...

  2. I voted for Suburbatory, Up All Night and Free Agents. Yes, I've just watched comedies, I did not watch any new drama this fall, otherwise I'm sure I could have included shows such as Homeland (it seems like my kind of show) and Pan Am (which did not disappoint apparently).

I am very surprised and pleased to see Suburgatory is doing more than great. This is the best sitcom of the season, and usually when I like a show on network TV it struggles a lot, ratings-wise.

Truthfully, I expected the show to flop, I felt it wasn't compatible with The Middle (I stopped watching that show at the end of last season but I assume it is still the random family sitcom without one bit of originality or wit) but moreover, after two episodes, I can say Suburgatory doesn't look like an ABC show at all.

I don't know if it's because there's no middle-aged woman as the main character, or because it's not a completely harmless show (it actually is quite caustic), or because we don't end up drowned under cheesiness — for instance, I love Modern Family but come on, it's very rare when they're no big moral tale (dictated by one of the characters in voiceover) applicable to each character at the end of each episode, and they could have hindsight on that but they don't, they don't make fun of that inevitable moment of wisdom for the whole family.

I expected Suburgatory to be good but it was better than I expected. The cast is perfect, Jane Levy is adorable, very likable, and the supporting actors are terrific (Alan Tudyk, Jeremy Sisto, Cheryl Hines, Rex Lee), I had some genuine laughs in both episodes (the second one being even better than the pilot, imo). Great writing, great premise, great characters : that's what it takes to make the best new comedy of the season.

  3. Best New Network Drama Series: Person of Interest
    Best New Network Sitcom:  Suburgatory
Best New Premium Cable Series: Homeland
Best New Non-USA Divison: The Fades

    Honorable Mention:
    Pan Am (Drama)
    2 Broke Girls (Sitcom)
    Revenge (Primetime Soap)
Strike Back (Premium Cable Action Drama)
[I included it since it is basically a new series despire being the second year]

  4. Terra Nova!
I normally avoid new shows until they're onto a second series, as I hate when watching something to have it end without any closure. This is an exception.

  5. I keep hearing good stuff about Suburgatory... I may have to tempt myself into checking it out...

  6. I think this 2011 Fall TV season has been better than expected in some ways.

There are a lot more mediocre or actually fairly good series than expected....

Sadly I still think there has not been one big hit just yet. Possible exception is Homeland, but a big hit for Premium cable is more of a critical acclaim thing than a ratings thing.

  7. The pilot shocked me with laughter! XD
The second episode was actually better than the first too which is always nice in a sitcom.

  8. The best new shows for me are Homeland,Person Of Interest & Pan Am

    Honorable Mention:Revenge,Terra Nova,2 Broke Girls

  9. I think Suburgatory satisfies the cynic in me!

It touches on so many aspects of suburbia I have always hated and mocked. So far it has not felt stale or over-reaching like many of this year's new series. Just sharp, well-delivered comedy by good actors. So refreshing!

Down with sheeple! Up with Suburgatory!

  10. Okay, I haven't seen any of these shows other than the original Charlie's Angels and I 'm not really missing the viewing of the re-make, so it's a bit surreal for me to comment!

However if I could go by the premise , I would go for a show like Terra Nova; time travel, mystery and dinos :-)

  11. I think the first episode of A Gifted Man was really great, but the second one was a little dissapointing. I know it doesn't have much of a chance to get a second season or even a full season, but I like it. Guess it's my curse that I fall in love with shows that get canceled.

  12. I said Homeland for cable and then 2nd is the network show of Person of Interest. Some people seem to really not like it but I'm loving it. Anyway Homeland is obviously #1 because I'm already super invested from the pilot. I've got theories and everything. Of course the cast and writing is top notch, too. But I did not try that many new things yet. And I'm glad for these two being so great.

  13. As I'm only seeing Ringer, I'm voting for it as I'm liking it! :)
but I'm planning to watch Homeland and  Terra Nova too! :D

    ReplyDelete
  14. Person of Interest & Terra Nova for me!
I liked the pilot of American Horror Story but it's too early to judge. Ringer/Revenge/Unforgettable were quite weak IMO.
Yet to watch the Homeland pilot.

  15. Voted for revenge and playboy club. Others that I had high hopes for, terra nova, person of interest, and ringer, haven't grabbed me as much as I'd hoped.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Free Agents
    Pan Am
    Charlie's Angels
    - I haven't watched the enough of the others to fill the void that Free Agents left.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I voted for New Girl, Hart of Dixie and Secret Circle but I also like Ringer, Free Agents, Suburgatory and Up All Night

    ReplyDelete
  18. I voted for Revenge. I really like this show so far.

  19. This season took me by surprise.. While I had chosen my new shows in the previous seasons, with the idea that I would be entertained a lot, I did the same thing with Pan Am, Charlie's Angels, Ringer, Secret Circle..

But then I saw the pilots, and gave all the shows I just said even two episodes to impress me. I'm disappointed in Pan Am, Charlie's Angels, Ringer..

Secret Circle is a tie for me, I'll give it two more episodes.

AND two shows surprised me while I didn't give it a chance. I just watched it because I had nothing to do. The shows are Hart of Dixie (surprisingly well-grounded characters) and Revenge.

I said in other: Once Upon a Time. I already know I will love that show, even if it's bad. I love everything that comes from fairy tales and the premise looks really promising..

  20. I'm still watching Ringer and Person of Interest, but would have to admit it's more for who's in them than how they are doing plot wise :P  I'm still waiting on a mate to watch Terra Nova, but not sure if I'm gonna like it or not, lol.  There doesn't seem to be a run away hit from the ones I have seen imo

    ReplyDelete
  21. Revenge, The Secret Circle, Hart of Dixie

    ReplyDelete
  22. Homeland is my favorite, with American Horror Story close second.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 3 is too small .. but since I have to my top 3 this year are: Person of Interest, Pan Am and Homeland

    ReplyDelete
  24. I voted for Revenge New Girl and Pan Am

    ReplyDelete
  25. Have to admit, I can't believe I made this poll and then forgot to vote for Homeland... f.a.i.l.

    ReplyDelete
  26.  I also wanted to add Terra Nova, but my cat decided to play and with the mouse, then pounce on it to make sure it was dead.  My cats are very smart don't you know!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. My picks are: Hart of Dixie, Revenge and Ringer. Although I really liked Prime Suspect as well - haven't watched yet Person of Interest and American Horror Story.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ringer, American Horror Story, and Free Agents. (I also loved Up All Night, but I'm still bitter about Free Agents' cancellation.)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Person of Interest is my  fave new series so far but I think Homeland will be a close contender.  And then of course is Ringer with Nestor Carbonall to gaze at.

  30. Hey guys, I haven't watched any of the new shows as of yet, but it would be good to get some recommendations. I do love my big epic dramas like Fringe and Lost (although I always disliked Heroes and Flashforward) and I also love Shameless US and I like my comedies (How I Met Your Mother, Its Always Sunny and Community being my favourites).

So yeah, any recommendations? Im willing to try a few, even outwith my confort zone. I watched Prime Suspect UK and liked that so Im tempted by the US version (even if Life on Mars wasn't a good crossover) and Person of Interest interests me for Michael Emerson...

    ReplyDelete
  31. #1 Homeland - I loved the pilot but all the conspiracy is what really grabbed me.
#2 Revenge - Who hasn't (in the back of there mind) wanted to get revenge on someone
#3 Terra Nova - I love the whole concept of traveling back in time and dino's

There are others that I really enjoyed like The Fades, Ringer, New Girl, Secret Circle but they didn't get mt attention like my chosen 3...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Person of Interest and Homeland. I haven't seen Pan Am or Revenge yet, but they look good.

    ReplyDelete
  33. New Girl, Revenge and Suburgatory (the biggest surprise) .... and I kinda have a soft spot for A Gifted Man.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Person of Interest, Suburgatory , Whitney (surprisingly cute & funny)  I have Terra Nova recorded but haven't watched, Up all night is cute but isn't a must see

  35. HOMELAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Homeland is the best! I voted also for Suburgatory and Unforgettable.

New Girl, Terra Nova and Up All Night

  39. Homeland, Person of Interest, and Ringer.

  40. This time 3 weeks ago i probably would of said ringer but after the past 2 episodes i've been very disappointed, same with The Secret Circle. The only thing worth watching on CW is The Vampire Diaries and Nikita which are both in their third and second season.

My new favorites for this season instead would have to be Person Of Interest, Revenge and Terra Nova.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ringer and The Secret Circle for now and I have high hopes for Once Upon a Time.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Person of Interest, Terra Nova and Unforgettable for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Homeland and Pan Am. I watched a few of the other pilots, but I think these are the only two shows I´ll keep watching.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Homeland and Prime Suspect.  I'm surprised so many people enjoy that shoddy Falling Skies rehash that is Terra Nova.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Homeland is the show which really got my attention with its first episode its the only pilot I would give an A grade to but I am also loving Up All Night as well.

    ReplyDelete
  46. A decent group of new shows for the most part, but I selected for my top 3: Homeland, Terra Nova, and POI. Honorable mentions: Pan Am, Revenge, Suburgatory and Up all night.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like Terra Nova, though I don't love it yet.
I am watching Secret Circle and Person of Interest.  They are ok and I hope they improve.

Also watching Bedlam and Todd & the Book of Pure Evil.  Bedlam is meh.  I enjoy Todd, though it is pretty silly (kind of a cross between Buffy and Jay & Silent Bob.)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Person of Interest for me, and strangely enough I like How to be a Gentleman as well.
I wish I could say the same for Terra Nova, but so far the whole Family Channel/Hallmark Channel stuff just annoys me. But as I've said I'm giving it a four episode fair shake before I make a decision on it.

  49. Been taking care of my grandbaby a lot so I haven't seen much that isn't interrupted (except Dora the Explorer), but what I've seen of Person of Interest I have liked, and I saw some of Up All Night and I liked it. I love Whitney. Hilarious last night.

  50. The crop of new shows seems pretty thin this year. Person of interest, Terra Nova and New Girl are the only ones i will continue to watch.

  61. Pan Am and Ringer. Awesome shows! Great cast and the plot seems really interesting in both. I also like New Girl but honestly... I thought it would be more funny than it is.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Homeland, Revenge,  Terra Nova and A gifted Man. The rest just isnt any good.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Voted for Revenge. Great quality in terms of writing and acting.
I enjoy New Girl and 2 Broke Girls somewhat but they both still feel clunky in execution.Ringer - frankly, I'm only watching out of loyalty for SMG and Kris Polaha. Bridget is not a very compelling character and the writing has been terrible. Especially the episode where she had to hide the body.Hart of Dixie - Rachel Bilson is not believable as a doctor. The other girl, Lemon, is very grating. The show is cute-sy but seems so empty.Pan Am - Initially intrigued, but the shows tries too hard to be interesting/relevant - the latest episode in particular. Might drop it if it doesn't get any better. Not a fan of Christine Ricci's acting in this.Person of Interest - fascinating concept. The execution itself, not quite my style. Quickly lost interest.

  64. Oh yeah. Charlie's Angels was terribly cheesy. Couldn't get through the pilot even though I love shows with strong females. Tragedy.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I voted for Revenge and Suburgatory. Both great new shows!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Homeland, Prime Suspect, Suburgatory, Unforgettable, Terra Nova and The Playboy Club (shame it was cancelled).

  67. Person of Interest and Homeland !

... Once Upon A Time was great too =)
