Up against sports and broadcast telecasts on Sunday, Showtime's Homeland held up well in its second week, retaining most of its audience in the debut.

The Claire Danes political drama averaged 938,000 total viewers to Homeland's premiere telecast at 10 p.m. for its second episode. For the midnight encore, Homeland drew in an additional 234,000 viewers for a total of 1.17 million compared to the previous week's 1.33 million.

Showtime says that Homeland is on track to become the network's highest-rated drama premiere to date in its first week.
Dexter, meanwhile, saw a steeper drop for its second episode of the new season, drawing 1.71 million at 9:05 p.m. (versus 2.19 million for its sixth season opener). When the 11 p.m. telecast is counted, Dexter drew a total of 2.17 million viewers (compared to last week's 2.66 million).

  1. Still haven't' got around to homeland yet, but I'm glad, it seems like the kind of show I'd like, so this is good news :)

  2. Wow, it's interesting the show afterwards had a higher rating. But in all honesty I think Homeland is absolutely awesome and set toe be the new big thing. The second episode left me even more in love than the first! And while I still watch Dexter I'm thinking it shouldn't be around for more than 6 or 7 seasons. I guess it depends on what MCH wants...?

  3. MCH is in talks with the production right now for a (final?) two-years deal.
