SHOWTIME® ORDERS SEASON TWO OF HOMELAND
Network Greenlights Second Season of Its Highest Rated Freshman Drama Series Ever
Starring Claire Danes, Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin
LOS ANGELES, CA – (October 26, 2011) – On the heels of HOMELAND’s biggest numbers yet, for this past Sunday’s airing, SHOWTIME has ordered a season two, consisting of 12 new one-hour episodes. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. Developed for American television by executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, HOMELAND stars Emmy® Award winner Claire Danes, Golden Globe® nominee Damian Lewis and Emmy and Tony® Award winner Mandy Patinkin. HOMELAND debuted as the network’s highest-rated freshman drama series ever, generating 4.4 million viewers across platforms in its first week. The series has continued to increase overall viewership since its premiere, with its most recent episode delivering the series’ best ratings to-date this past Sunday. Season two will begin production in spring 2012.
“HOMELAND is just getting started,” said Nevins. “Clearly, the overall audience growth from week one to week four demonstrates that this show is hitting a nerve in the cultural zeitgeist. Alex and Howard have created a psychological thriller that holds special relevance in the post 9/11 world. I’m quite confident that its passionate audience will be riveted as the season unfolds and people discover where this story is going.”
The countless accolades for HOMELAND keep coming as the show gets deeper into its debut season. Newsweek calls HOMELAND “the most addictive show of the season.” The New York Times notes “Homeland is well made and gripping…impossible to resist” and TV Guide says “Hands-down the best new drama on TV.” USA Today raves “Stands out as the season’s best new drama.” “Grade: A” saysThe Boston Globe. The LA Times relays “It’s the first telling of a post-9/11 story that is all the things it should be: politically resonant, emotionally wrenching and plain old thrilling to watch.”
HOMELAND is a one-hour drama series that tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed dead for eight years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. The series also stars Morena Baccarin, David Harewood, Diego Klattenhoff, Morgan Saylor and Jackson Pace. HOMELAND is based on the original Israeli series “Prisoners of War,” by Gideon Raff. Along with Gordon and Gansa, the executive producers for season one are Avi Nir, Ran Telem, Gideon Raff and Michael Cuesta. The series is produced by FOX 21.

Early for new show.
ReplyDeleteGreat news.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if this is a good thing. I mean I like show, its entertaining but it's moving pretty slow. Next week will be the 5th episode and we still don't know for sure if Brody really did turn to the dark side as well as what the upcoming threat is...
ReplyDeleteI understand that some shows and even movies are supposed to be slow going but 4 episodes in, we know just as much as we did when Homeland first premiered. Yes, there are a couple new tidbits we learned but not much.
ReplyDeleteBest new series of the season (by far) so there was never any doubt of renewal for me.
ReplyDeleteBrody's guilt or innocence is the central mystery to this season.. I doubt they will let us know if he is a double agent or not before the last couple episodes.
ReplyDeleteWe could/should learn a lot more about his time in captivity and what he had to do to survive, but his true motives now should be a mystery until the very end I think.
Goood. Best new show from this fall :)
ReplyDeleteI agree but the show could be better, in my opinion, if they do the season in three acts. First act, first 5 episodes, Brody and the mystery surrounding him. Second act, episodes 6 through 9 knowing for sure that Brody turned and what the threat is. final act, episodes 10 to 12, taking the big bad down. But it is a good show, I just could see this being a lot better.
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree, it's a slow build series and not for everyone.
ReplyDeleteYour three act plan may be spot on ... guess we will see....
Personally for me Homeland has been the best new drama series of the year and one of the best in the last couple years. Right up there with Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, The Killing and The Walking Dead.
(I just listed the last 2 years best new dramas IMO... I'm not sure it's up with Breaking Bad or Mad Men etc)
Good! Love this show, one of the best new showes.
ReplyDeleteI guess you can say that I am a bit impatient lol. I do like Homeland a lot. I've always enjoyed movies, shows, and books that were about spies and terrorists.
ReplyDeleteDepends on taste, not everyone likes slow-burning dramas. I personally like them a lot, but there are people who are a bit impatient.
ReplyDeleteI just love how much these shows concentrate on character development.
That reminds I never saw any ratings for this show anywhere. How did it do compared to other Showtime shows?
ReplyDeleteHa!
ReplyDeleteI can be impatient at times too, but like a number of people have written about Homeland on the site... it seems to have a limited run built into the design. After we learn the true motivation behind Brody's actions what is left for the series?
I enjoy it too much to be over in 10 episodes so I'm hoping for a reveal at the very end of the year and then Season 2 to finish the series. Unless they come up with something brilliant that shocks me I don;t see how it can go beyond 2 years really.....
FYI I love spy genre series and films too. Both the more action types like Bond or Bourne and the more mental types like The Falcon and The Snowman, Tailor of Panama, and Homeland.
Excellent news! Homeland and Person of Interest are two of my favorite new shows.
ReplyDeletei dont get this Show in Canada unfortunly cause there is No Showtime in Canada ):
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised; I've been hearing nothing but good things about this show since before it premiered.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it will be a different story/threat
ReplyDeleteIt states in the article it was the highest rated (or watched) pilot of any showtime series...
ReplyDelete"HOMELAND debuted as the network’s highest-rated freshman drama series ever, generating 4.4 million viewers across platforms in its first week. I'm not sure about the actual numbers though.
I just scanned through the article because I thought it's just the usual executive jabber about how great the show is. So at least it's something that you can get an idea from.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how many episodes the Israeli original Hatufim had?
ReplyDeleteI did the same until I read your question an then I read it completely. XD
ReplyDeleteBrilliant series, yes its considered to be slow but a lot of the cable dramas are and they build up into intense season finales (think of early Breaking Bad seasons for example) but I personally love it.
ReplyDeleteI think the series creators some of whom worked on 24 learnt from the mistakes of that show when there were so many twists and turns it got ridiculous in the end.
Homeland is much more subtle in its approach. I think Carrie will turn Brody back to the 'good' side and they will have to work together to bring down the bigger threat
Totally agree 100%
ReplyDeleteOMG I'm just loving the slow burn of this show.
ReplyDeleteI keep saying it's like Rubicon and I still stand by that...
BTW, I think a big answer is supposed to be provided in episode 5 if I remember correctly, reading spoilers for this show.
Good show, good ratings, good decision. 'Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome.. Hope it comes back even stronger..
ReplyDeleteThe first season had 10 episodes. the second season will be start at January.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it will be a action packed season with a different story/threat à la 24
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad it got a second season but it also worries me. Right now, the design of the mystery (was Brody turned or not) isn't a mystery I want unanswered at the end of the season. I'm worried about Prison Break itis. Trying to stretch a 12 episode story into 24 for no other reason than they're paying for one could be a bad deal. I'm hoping that, because HBO and Showtime typically have finished filming before they air, means that they've tied up this story and will start fresh with a new story at the start of the next season.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info!
