Awake - Production shutdown after 5 episodes

26 Oct 2011

Production on NBC's Awake has been shutdown after five episodes to undergo creative retooling and rewrites.
Awake has an order for 12 episodes for season 1. This production hiatus was done at the request of the writers/show runner who needed more time to work on script changes.

  1. That doesn't seem like a good sign...

  2. Nooo... *sob* Just give me one full season of this show NBC, that's all I want, just 13 episodes. Please!

  3. This was one of my more anticipated series of the year. Not that I thought it would be a hit, but I found the actors and premise intriguing.

This does not sound at all good to me....

  4. You should mention that this hiatus was requested by the writers. They wanted more time to "get it right" because it is a "very challenging show", as showrunner Howard Gordon (also currently in charge of Homeland, that's a busy, talented man) said. The response of people at NBC and 20th Century Fox TV to the first episodes has been positive. This hiatus will last a couple of weeks, they will plot out the rest of the season, and then it's back on track, it'll still air this Spring, there's nothing to worry about here, folks !

  10. Is there ever a case of something like this happening, at the request of the showrunner, and then the show isn't allowed to start back up? Or are they likely to fill the 12 episode order?

  11. Oh Jeez, I forgot he was behind Homeland too. This Gordon fellow should stay in the TV business I say.

  12. I was really looking forward to this show but that doesn't seem like a good sign.

  14. The same thing happened to V before it premiered.  This show had the slimmest of chances for success in the first place.  Talk about a nail in the coffin.  R.I.P. Awake.

  15. Doesn't sound good but if it was the showrunner's request that makes it slightly better. I thought Awake looked good so I hope it works out.

  19. It's actually a good sign, means that the showrunners really care about the storyline of the series

  20. This show is the one I'm MOST waiting for! The teaser looked perfect and the premise is amazing. Let us hope it's not a bad sign. In fact since it's headed for mid-season and they've already got 5 episodes, I guess they CAN take a couple weeks to "retool". As long as it makes the show on par with what we know of it.
