Supernatural - Season 7 - Predict the New Title Card Theme!

19 Sept 2011

***Updated with my own attempt at the green idea I had in my head! :)

Welcome to the final stretch the the 6th annual Hellatus! Congratulations for making it this far (although statistics show that a rather formidable number of people DROP DEAD of anxiety at an exponential rate the closer we get to the premiere) so ladies and gentlemen, for the love of Castiel please remain calm. Arguably a lot of Supefans are completely unaware of the actual meaning of the word calm! Can you believe that!? 45% of Supefans don't know how to chill out when it comes to finally seeing the counterpart of last season's cliffhanger! Actually, it seems I've read that wrong... take the 4 and replace it with a 9. Ok so that explains a lot. Well, if you guys need a metaphorical (or in certain not-necessarily-isolated incidents a literal) chill pill, please proceed to stare at this picture I have posted for your calming pleasure:

This is a sleeping manatee. This fellow here is as calm as a sleeping manatee. Just chillaxing in the clear waters. Ahhhh, fresh low tidewaters.
Not calm enough for you? Well, you probably need to deal with that in a societal-psychological way, but since you're here already, I'll try another picture:

This is Hobbes the ****ing Tiger. He is totally upset by everyone being so distraught because of how intense a certain CW supernatural drama is. ( Hobbes: "I Know, DELENA is NEVER going to happen! You need to deal with this and get on with your life, man!!!") Oh and also he thinks the premiere of Supernatural is nigh, so instead of chewing on the carpet in anticipation for the next 130 hours (thats roughly how many hours you have to wait to see what happens to Castiel and all the souls he sank down his gullet like a bag of hamburgers!) stay here with the semi-sane people and check out the third device for traumatizing, I mean tantalizing, I mean tranquilizing your immediate need for all things supernatural!

This is just me looking out for you, ok? I know someone who can help with these sort of things...ok that was a pretty blatant lie...but I had to transition seamlessly from Hobbes and TVD to the awful(ly damn good) things that we've all gone through! Like that time when a character literally smiled at the camera and vanished FOREVER and we're like "WHAT THE CHUCK!?" and had to restrain ourselves from rewatching the entire last 2 seasons to make sure we didn't miss something like someone pointing out that God might actually show his face on this series... Or that time the Impala got totalled...AGAIN.
These are tragedies when it comes to maintaining a minimal functioning normal life outside of blindly staring at the tv searching for what the next season will bring us! So instead of making a lengthy post that reminds us of every time someone killed a Winchester, or every time Meg said the word "meatsuit" in a most sinewy way that made us clench our collective guts in agony, or when we found out about the lack of toilet paper in the future (DEAR GOD WHAT WILL WE DO!?) I've decided to distract you from all this torment and anguish to reflect on what the last 6 title cards were, and to guess what could happen this year!

Season 1: We get the glitchy, sort've neutral "SUPERNTURAL" title card.
Season 2: An explosive fire title card complete with pentagram.
Season 3: A very polished dark and cloudy title card with the devil's trap flashing in and out with some stainless steel text
Season 4: crows flock off and a blood red title card skirts in with a shriek in the background
Season 5: an explosion of BLOOD in what remains as my personal favorite and the most intense title card yet
Season 6: Glass exploding towards you AWESOMELY

SEASON 7:
I suppose I'll take a few guesses to get the ball rolling here:

Version 1: a drunk guy belches loudly as a beer falls towards the audience. An explosion of hops and alcohol!
Version 2: A group of sillhouette-d teenagers sing a god-awful musical only to be ripped apart by a looming monster. Their screams culminate in a black-and-white explosion of gore

OK I got no more comedic ones, but here's some thought:
This year it could be GREEN somehow. That would be weird, no?
Like grass growing? nah... Maybe... Ugmmmmmm I don't know.
ORANGE? we haven't seen that color yet.
Although They seem to prefer re-using variants of red (season 5, season 2...even if it's pretty yellow, season 4) and blue (season 1, season 3, season 6) so maybe it'll be another red one this year? Like ...I don't know. lol

How about periwinkle? That's an interesting one. And a variant of blue. I'm sure they could make it work.

Anyway, do YOU have any idea what the new title card will look like this season? I think I'm more excited about that than I am about the preceding opening scene to be honest!

  1. Also, can anybody find the hidden message in the article? I'll give you a hint: It's something EVERYONE knows by now.

  2. Angel wings/feathers theme. Might be too similar to the old crow one though.

    ReplyDelete
  3. It could be something to do with blinding light. They do that well on this show!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I like it either way. Although I'd hope we would see less of our feathery frenemies this season.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm with you there. I haven't liked the angels since Anna was killed off. If she comes back the rest of them will be tolerated lol.

    ReplyDelete
  6. You make me giggle my way hysterically through this fantastic article then you tell me there's a hidden message?
Thanks for ramping up the anxiety level - now I'm feeling inadequate cuz I have NO FREAKIN' IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!

But anyhoo - I have no idea what the title card will look like. I reckon the shattering glass will be hard to beat - it's my fav so far.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I was thinking feathers too. More gentle and mysterious than the frenetic crow thing, though.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think we are going with red/hot again probably, or blinding light as a posibility, dark letters on a white/bright background.

Or a naked Misha Collins with a "come hither" look, that would be awesome. And really blasphemous.

  9. I was kinda thinking something with a blinding light - to represent the souls that Cas swallowed and which will end up choking him to death on their way out if the boys don't defuse him quick-smart.

  10. Actually I reckon it's about time the Impala made it on to the title card - so long as she's not... ya know .... exploding or anything horrific like that. Maybe roaring out of the darkness toward the camera and over the top like she's running down the camera operator. I'm sure Jensen & Jared would love the idea of Brad Creasser being metaphorically run over every week for the entire season - especially in light of the hard time they gave him in the gag reel.

  11. How about the word Supernatural in a flaming blood red that flashes to blinding light with the little sparkles that Castiel had in the finale... Then Supernatural becomes visible again as the light fades and it decays and crumbles away (maybe like a wind is blowing)... We all know that Castiel's blinding power is going to turn to corruption and decay... A friend of mine mentioned that the way Hell seems to be blowing away in Constantine is kind of creepy and cool... I think a short variation of that could be really appropriate for this year.

  12. I agree that the title card is the single most important thing about the season premiere.  After all, we have this title card for maybe 23 episodes, barring any special event ones.  My thoughts:

Well the color has to be red given the previous color scheme:  blue, reddish, blue, red, red, blue....
I would go with a wind theme but I'm not sure how to make that visually scary in 3 seconds or less. I doubt they do a tornado theme.  They also haven't done an earth-based one but earthquake is probably out too.  Perhaps we will have ominous bells ringing but the visual wouldn't be scary enough.  They could do flood but that would be blue which doesn't make the color pattern.

Oooohhh, I know.  Given the monster-ish theme, they should have claws rip through the word Supernatural and then drip blood.  Yes, it would be similar to season 5 but it would still be cool and within the time limit.

Just for the love of my sanity, do not let it be bugs/spiders.  My heart can't handle that 23 times this season.

  13. Awesome idea.  It would get to the point.  One question though:  Would we have the blinding light and then Supernatural pops out or would we have Supernatural being swallowed by the blinding light?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I like the idea of the Impala getting some weekly recognition especially in light of the fact that she will be tarped again this season.  Poor baby!  That blue heap will never take your place in Dean's heart.  However, I'm not sure I want to think she is possessed every episode either.  :-)  Love the gunning motor sound effect though.

  15. For some reason reading the introduction to this blasted all thoughts out of my head.  :-D

    Periwinkle?

    Can I vote for purple?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Now I'm thinking yellow and fall tones, dusky?

Because now I have the feeling that Castiel might get Dark Phoenixed hard, and the colors of sunset could be a nice theme for is end. Because as a fanboy, I don't want Cas to die without redemption, even when it seems that the douchebaggery is part of being an angel. At least let him go with a clean conciense.

Or they can Retcon!Dark Phoneix him up, and say that it's not the real Castiel at all and finally introduce aliens to the series.

  17. I can't remember where I saw it (might have been tumblr) but they had what people thought was the Season 7 title card and it was blue with bats. It doesn't sound that great but I actually kind of liked it. I'll see if I can find it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Here it is: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lrq986Ilvp1qhaw5x.jpg
It could be fan-made for all I know but I don't think it's too bad. The image is also a still one so who knows what the effect would be.

  19. Love the article, was so create to read/think/talk about supernatural again. Ive missed it sooooo much.
I think I was a bit insane in the first month but I calmed down a but but now I'm even more worked up. We're so close!!! And it's my last day of term too, right before I begin studying like crazy for my exams. I could not be happier to get the winchesters back into my life

As for the title card, I'm not sure what the action would be but purple would be pretty cool, and it's kinda close to blue
My fave one so far has been season 6, the glass shattering was awesome.

    Gah. I'm so excited!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Does it have to do with the sleeping manatee?? Coz that was a cool picture

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have no idea but I love your ideas :) but something maybe to indicate a new evil-- like the title in black disappearing into a white background? Or appearing...

    ReplyDelete
  22. no idea but thewinchesterfamilybusiness site has made one and I think its awesome though I'm not sure it would fit with the theme of the season. I just really liked it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, season 5 had the best card so far.

    For season 7:

I like the idea of a a bright flash of light that fades to reveal a dark green Supernatural surrounded by green and black tentacles, accompanied by loud but indistinct whispers like in season 5. After a beat, it disappears back into a bright flash and the sound of an explosion or cracks into loosely connected pieces and comes toward the viewer like the Glass in season 6.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This made my day thanks so much for a good laugh!  I like the manatee! On the topic question I have no idea... I do like the idea of something green... maybe a massive gate crashing open to reveal the title? To symbolize the gate to purgatory that Cass opened? Who knows the effects guys always put on a good show for us, and to be honest the best part of the season opener last year was the title card... not to say thats what I think will happen this year... I'm just one of those people that didn't like Lisa... sorry to be a downer... 4 days till season 7! Yeah!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not my department, Dahne. lol I don't know... :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. lol reminds me of The Dark Knight or Batman Begins.
It COULD be real, but I'd doubt it. That wouldn't be the worst thing ever though  :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't have the imagination to come up with an idea for the new title card, but I can't wait to see it!
out of the previous ones, my favs are: season 2, 4 and 6, but I think season 4 slightly wins for me for the scream you can hear in the background. Love the wings and the juicy red of the title as well.

    ReplyDelete
  28. After all these years, Season 2 is still my favourite one....

On to the subject at hand... Uuuuummmm.... Shaping through some smoke or fog? Something between Season2 and Season3. Like the same vibe the S2 has that the SUPERNATURAL shapes through the flames, but for it to actually shape through a S3 like smoke (without the devil's trap backdrop)

    ReplyDelete
  29. breaking the letter was good use other color and cloudy background will be  fantastic

    ReplyDelete
  30. With you on that. I was thinking white angelwings filling the entire screen (so from quite close to the wings) and then zooming in even more and you start seeing darkness or maybe blood seeping from between the feathers and forming the title. Sort of a "Heaven corrupted" kind of thing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. How about a SPN Casa Erotica Title Card with flashing lights like those neon signs over strip clubs with a subtle phallic shapes coming at the screen, I'm sure slashfans will love that lol

    ReplyDelete
  32. Fun article! I'm going to guess that because the season description makes it sound like reality as they know it will be altered, whether that's by the monster or Cas, the "Supernatural" is different, maybe spelled differently or a different font.

    ReplyDelete
  33. lol spelled differently? like a typo?

    "Suprenatral" lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am thinking like the "soul Light" (Does that make any sense?) Blasting out like when Cas swallowed the souls. And I am going with back on blueish white.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Not if Cas is running things now. I think God would approve of that title. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Going with my "green" idea, I made a mock-up screenshot of the opening in progress. Adding it to this post. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'mma go with white or yellow color. Maybe a bit of lightning again?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I like the idea of having claws rip through the screen!
And I agree - I would not be able to cope if it turned out to be spiders!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes! I missed having an AC/DC song accompany the recap as well!
Perhaps T.N.T. or Live Wire would suit with the whole Cas situation...

    ReplyDelete
  40. My first thought was Angel wings but it's probably too close to the crow wings in Season 4...
Maybe something to do with demon-like smoke? But kinda different to symbolise the souls of whatever creatures Cas consumed from Purgatory... Maybe accompanied by some kind of unearthly and creepy growl?
Dunno... but I'm excited to find out what it is!

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is killing me trying to find the hidden message!! :P
Is it something to do with Hobbes?? Like maybe "reality is a matter of perspective" ...?
Or is it as simple as "Castiel is God" ...?

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's much simpler than that. And remember it's something you know.
:) another hint: You may not necessarily see the hidden message until you do something to the page.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Is there an answer in here to the hint? Damned if I know as to opening I have no idea my fav Season 6 Breaking glass was awesome

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think something purple and black...bringing back ideas of the horror of Edgar Allen Poe.  They've had  a crow.... a black bird.  Poe had the Raven.  There's the Tell-Tale Heart.  When I read, watch, or think of Poe, I see purple and black. Those colors together create a sensation of terror.

    ReplyDelete
  45. If you are attempting a cut and paste, you scroll down and cover the entire article.  There are sentences underlined.  I could keep the scroll going long enough to read what was underlined because it would disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Getting closer.
Here's another hint: it's not text in the article. There's an image involved.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I found it! Woo!!! :D
"SUPERNATURAL SEASON PREMIERE FRIDAY SEPT. 23 9/8c"

    ReplyDelete
  48. That's cool looking.  I even like the purple but I'm guessing we stick with the red or blue coloring.  I also like the smoke idea.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This actually reminds me of the demon cluster before the poor Impala got totaled.

    ReplyDelete
  50. WE HAVE A WINNER!
    Guess what you win!?
The satisfaction of knowing when Supernatural premieres! :D

    ReplyDelete
  51. I messed around with it a little more and tried the B&W approach:

    ReplyDelete
  52. Why didn't it post...?
    Here it is again. :(

    ReplyDelete
  53. Haha! Yay! :P
Pity I live in Australia though - don't know when it will actually air here. It could be months away.
But I'm gonna look into downloading for the first time so I don't have to miss out! Can't wait! :D

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think the title card is going to have a theme that reflects on season 7, ex: in the season six intro with the exploding glass (pretty epic) reflected the wall in Sam's cracking & eventually shattering, So my guess is the new title card for Supernatural is going to have "God-like" vibe to it, Or like a supernova blast of light, to reflect on all those souls Castiel absorbed.
