Supernatural - Hopes For Season 7

16 Sept 2011

As the Season 7 premiere of Supernatural draws closer, fans are throwing out their predictions of what may happen with our beloved Winchesters. There's no way it will be smooth sailing for the boys because, after all, their family is cursed and the fate of the world often lands on their shoulders. They've fought demons, banished ghosts, averted the Apocalypse, brought Lucifer topside, and lost their lives more than once. Sam and Dean aren't going to suddenly settle down in happy domesticity, so that means there can only be more trouble down the road. What might that be? Well, I have a few hopes and dreams for the new season myself.

Give Me Tentacles: The rumors abound on what fate may befall Cas and what the Big Bad of the season may be. It doesn't look good for the angel turned god. It would lead one to believe that he may turn out to be the Big Bad that the boys have to fight against, but let's not confine ourselves to the obvious. There are a ton of other baddies out there worthy of the fight. Some have spoken on Cthulhu and others have bandied around the name of Kraken. You see a theme there? Tentacles! And what is my hope? I want tentacles bursting out of Cas' chest like a scene from Alien. He swallowed some bad stuff when he took in the souls of Purgatory. I doubt the bad sea monsters will be content just staying inside his body for the long-term.

Bye, Bye, Panic Room: I love Bobby. I think he's a great adoptive father to the boys and it's nice that they have someone they can go to for help when things get tough. However, I think they've started relying on Bobby, and especially Bobby's house, a little too much. This is a road show and I want the boys to get back on the road, with all the fun motel decorations that includes. That means losing Bobby's house as their base of operations. Get Bobby out of his house and then blow it up, demolish it, put a seal on it so no one can enter, something! No more home-base, no more panic room, no more ties to anything other than each other and the road. As for Bobby, he can always move in with Sheriff Mills.

Arrest Those Boys: I have long missed the days of youth when the boys made their way by hustling a few games of pool or darts at the local bar. They're Winchesters, they're fully equipped to take an unsuspecting challenger for everything in their pocket. Dean has shown that he can easily make hundreds in a night and he taught Sammy everything he knows. Let's get back to that. With the avenue of stolen credit cards out of their reach, they need something to make living expenses. And to go along with that, let's get back to the boys versus the law. Have them run afoul of the local authorities, throw them in lock-up for a night, or just have them involved in a chase once in a while. They're outlaws, make them act like it.

Meet Sam, and Sam, and Sam: Sammy spent the Season 6 finale reintegrating the different parts of his personality. Well, kinda. All the pieces are there, but his head is scrambled more than Sunday breakfast. He's not going to get away with a simple headache and then be fine. The repercussions of the wall coming down are sure to haunt both him and Dean for a while. My hope, as he gets back to sanity, is that he'll have to actually integrate personalities. What I wouldn't give to have Soulless!Sam just pop out for a few minutes as they're driving in the Impala. Or Hell!Sam could have him screaming out in terror as he tries to catch a few hours of sleep. The point is, he's got three versions of himself all residing within his head and it's bound to get crowded if they don't learn to get along.

Me and My Brother Against the World: Above all else, every season, I just want the boys to be together. They are stronger together than they can ever be apart, so I hope we get to cash in on that and have the Winchester boys back together and in action. This may well be the first season in a long time where we start out with the boys on the same side, fighting the good fight, and making sure they watch each others' backs for the badness that could be out there. These boys would die for each other, and have quite a number of times. That unhealthy codependency is what makes me watch the show. Let's keep it up!

So what about you? What are your hopes and dreams for Season 7 of Supernatural? Got a story arc you want to see come to fruition? Got a monster you're dying to see face the Winchesters? It's Season 7, anything is possible!

  1. Great stuff!

    1. There was a tease that said the boys will face "Leviathans". We can only guess what it means. Maybe Cas will release some pure evil critters. I don't think they'll be from hell or something though. Maybe things from different religions or something.

    2. I thought about it too! How shockingly awesome would be if Bobby's house would have the crap blown out of it at the premiere. That'll be a big game-changer.

    3. I think they did a pretty good job on cops-after-them part with the whole Hendrickson phase, but if they can come up with new angles for that, count me in.

    4. Seeing his other personalities pop out once in a while will be very sweet. However, I also hope we get to see more flashback from his soul-less \ hell stuff.

  2. Bobby's house isnt going anywhere according JB, its going through a little remodling but its very much still a part of the show. Bobby will also appear in 5 of the first 6 episodes of the season.

The rest of what you said pretty much looks like a given from what we;ve heard and seen so far.

I would like to see God step in and teach Cas a lesson in humility by saving him when the monsters start to seep out of his vessel.  And, I'd like him to give us an explanation of where he's been. Maybe he'll take Cas back to "Bible Camp" like season 5.

I'd like to get back to the basics of the show, the monster-of-the-week formula.  With all these new monsters being released, that ought to be easy.  Maybe the big bad will be the King of Purgatory.  Let's get back to the classic rock, Sam doing research, and Dean chasing women!

    ReplyDelete
  4. 1. I see alot of the Purgatory monsters coming to reality this season (which I would love!) The boys don't know how to fight them, so it'll be interesting to see if they can.

    2. Bobby's is a safe place for the boys, so if they're truly on the run for their lives they can't go back to known addresses.

    3. I loved Hendrickson and I miss him. I miss that kind of dynamic of the law versus the boys, even if they're both fighting to keep people safe from different sides of the law.

    4. I think Sam's in for a mindtrip this season (which means Dean is in for it, too). I hope he can reintegrate without going completely insane.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I know Bobby's in the first 5 of 6 eps, but I'm not so sure the house is
going to be left in the same state we left it. Hey, maybe Cas will take
it over as his base of operations! That'd be a twist.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'd love to have some mention of God (he's off playing skee ball;) Father abandonment issues, both the Winchesters and Cas have them in spades.

I liked the basic formula of the boys, the car, and a case. I have hope they can do more of that this year, with the amount of potential monsters that will surely be released as a result of the Purgatory situation.

  7. I want to see Jesse Turner again.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Jesse has so much potential! I hope we haven't seen the last of him. (I also wish they'd do something with Adam, but that's a whole other topic.)

    ReplyDelete
  9. I would sign a contract for all your options except for maybe the tentacles,  but I'm willing to give

    them a try.......

The idea of Sam rotating three identities is awesome.

I can just see Hell Sam popping out when there is a big fight going on or Souless Sam when

there's a more diplomatic problem to be faced etc,.and normal Sam, and Dean too, being just

    confounded by the whole thing.

Yes, the boys are wonderful when they are conning someone, they should  get back to basics,

back on the road and back to beiing the so believable co-dependent brothers that they were and

     still are!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I just think there's a lot of potential in the reintegration of Sam's mind. He's not getting out of this without some kind of damage (temporary as it may be).  I hope we get some good exploration of that before he's "okay" again.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I want them to bring back half of the actors :P Most notable are Gabriel, Zacharia, Balthazar, Rufus, and the list goes on.

I'm so glad Alona Tal is back this season. Israeli pride ^^

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rufus! I still cry to think he's dead (maybe he can come back as a spirit or flashback or something.) I'm glad Jo's back for an ep. I wish Gabriel could make a reappearance, too. God saved Cas multiple times, why can't he put our favorite Trickster/Archangel back together again?

    ReplyDelete
  13. My answer's going to be a little unpopular ....

I want them to go back on the road and see them interacting regularly with interesting people who are not Bobby, like they did in seasons 1-4.  I like Bobby, I don't want anything to happen to him, and I think he belongs in about two to four episodes a season, but I also think that the writers made a smart move in killing off John Winchester because Sam and Dean needed to grow up.  They couldn't keep hunting with their dad.  Five years later, they're still hunting with their dad.  It's a different one, but still, Bobby talks to them like they're adolescents, and they always be boys instead of men until they're allowed to grow up.

I'm happy that they're introducing new characters, but less enthusiastic that two of the reoccurring characters are friends of Bobby.  Sorry, but Bobby wore out his welcome for me when he was in so many of the episodes at the end of last season, and I'm not thrilled that he appears to be in so many eps in the beginning of next season. Right now I need for him to go away so that I can start to miss him.

I want Cas to survive and make occasional appearances as an angel or human - not god - throughout the season.  Yes, I know the show is about Sam and Dean, and characters get written out. But to be honest, Cas's probable death is lessening my enthusiasm for the show. It's a loss, and an unnecessary one.

I like what I've heard about scary, ancient monster(s).  That story has a lot of promise.  I want the writers to think through whatever they're planning and develop some detailed mythology that's consistent with their previous seasons, and not let the logic drop whenever it's convenient.

I'm looking forward to some heavy, psychological scenes for Sam, but I hope he moves past this at some point soon (midseason maybe) so that he can heal and start to develop emotionally again, which would include making new friends in the outside world.

I'd like some occasional monster-of-the-week episodes, but no more ghosts. They're not scary anymore, as Mannequin showed.  And I want occasional references to what's going on in Heaven and Hell.  If Crowley is a regular guest throughout the season, I'd like for him to be demoted back down to a crossroad's demon.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't think it's an unpopular opinion at all. Bobby has become a
safehaven for the boys a little bit too much as the seasons progress and
I think they'd be good to lessen that ability to go to him with their
    problems.

Last season I wanted Cas to fall and become fully human (I liked him the
best when he was becoming more human in Season 5), though the show
decided to go in the opposite direction. I'd still be okay with him
    falling and becoming human.

I get the feeling Sam's mental issues will carry on for a bit, but I
don't see it stretching beyond mid-season. It'll make good emotional
scenes for the first half though!

And I'm looking forward to Crowley and how they deal with him. He's
after his own fain, whether that means allying himself with the boys or
angels or whoever serves his purposes. I wonder how he and the
Winchesters can exist together without Dean pulling a gun on him ;)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bobby's a bit of an untouchable for some people around here, so that's why I made the "unpopular" comment.

Oh, I want to add two more things.  I want Sam to get a haircut (like it looked in season 4) and I want an occasional change in wardrobe for both them.  Something that's not flannel.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I like the vast majority of these ideas! Im not too sure about how I feel about the tentacles yet, but I will say that I cant wait to see the boys back together in action again, being what they are... brothers and not lying to each other and getting torn apart. I am also interested in bringing the authorities back into play Jus in Bello didn't sit well with me as a tidy end to all the boys police and FBI problems. I think that this season, and there has been many spoilers from Sera and Jensen themselves that say this, there is going to be trouble with the law so I can't wait to see how it all plays out! I have to say that I'm not wild about how everyone is throwing around the Butch and Sundance theme, as I recall that movie didn't end too well for the main characters, and I'm not looking forward to losing either of the boys or the show anytime soon, but theme of Us Vs. the World I do like! The boys have never been up against as many different foes as the spoilers are hinting at this season so I hope that the writers have something huge in store for the big bad! But I will say regardless of what happens I'm gonna still watch because if nothing else the show always comes back to Sam and Dean and that's what matters! And I hope that this isn't gonna be a board where people rant on and on about how of this happens they wont watch anymore... If you are here to post that don't and save us real fans from the whining...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree w/everything.  What's left is I would like to see the boys get laid again.  It's been a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Haha! Oh, Sammy's hair :) It's taken on a life of its own lately. I don't mind it a bit long, but brushing the collar of his shirt is a bit too long for me.

    ReplyDelete
  19. At Vancouver Jensen said something about having a very important set destroyed, and the boys started to take stuff because it was the last time they would film in it. I'm guessing it's Bobby's house since it's pretty much their only permanant stage

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'd like to see Dean hitting on women again. It's fun to watch ;) And
Sammy hasn't had a relationship since Ruby (we're not counting whatever
Soulless!Sam got up to;) I'd like to see the Winchesters back in action!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love when the boys have to deal with the law. They're so crafty (even when they get arrested). And I think the Butch/Sundance theme is more us against the world rather than "in the end we all die." I like it when the boys are united, because together they can do so much.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Above all else, every season, I just want the boys to be together"
    Always;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wonderful article. I agree with everything ESPECIALLY the tentacles! I WANT TO SEE A MONSTER. Not another meatsuit!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Agreed! Like I said, I think this is the first season in a long time when the boys aren't estranged when we start out. I like that and hope it continues.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I miss the good monsters. It's always fun to see what strange creatures the boys have to fight against.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Bobby is probably my favorite character in the show, but I wouldn't mind him being out of contact with the brothers for a while, because of the reasons you mentioned. However, he's never worn his welcome out in my opinion. :P

    ReplyDelete
  27.  I'd also love to see Dean all badass , thinking out of the box, and being a being a leader again.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bobby has some great moments and lines.  I just really miss the variety of the reoccurring characters of season 2, and I'm so tired of them always hanging out with Bobby and feeling like Bobby is the only one with all of the contacts to the outside world.  Dean has the supernatural contacts, but since Ruby died, it seems like Sam interacts only with Dean and Bobby.  Also, there's the pattern of falling into a parent/children dynamic when Bobby's around.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yay for Smart!Dean using his experience and different way of looking at things. I love it when he gets to do that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Fantastic article.  IA especially with your me and my brother against the world! YES PLEASE

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's really my hope every year. The thing I love, above all else, is the relationship between the brothers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Definitely, omg i totally forgot about dean hitting on women..its been tooo long :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I wanna see Missouri again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have no problems with Sam's hair. I like long haired guys. :D It looks great.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Rufus! I miss him. He was awesome. And Gabriel! I miss him too. He was my favorite angel. Balthazar, too. His death was so... I don't know. I wish we had at least gotten to see a shot of his pretty, shadowy death wings. That would have been awesome. D: And what about Adam? He's just doomed to stay in the cage forever? I feel sorry for him. It isn't his fault John Winchester had a bloodline and just had to pass it on.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 1. I'm not really for or against tentacle monsters... (damn you fanfiction! I have images in my head!) But it could be awesome.

    2. Blowing up/otherwise destroying Bobby's house! On the one hand, it's an awesome house. And the boys probably think of it as a home. On the other hand...that would be really cool. And they do rely on him a lot. As long as Bobby himself survives. If they killed him off... *sob*

    3. I would love to see the boys hustling, running credit card scams, etc, again. And I love when they get arrested and in trouble with the law. I miss Henriksen. He was great. Bring on the law enforcement, I say!

    4. Oh, wow, that would be really cool. it would be amusing, or dramatic, to see Sam changing personalities. I didn't like Soulless Sam all that much, but he was creepy, and Jared did a really great job with it. He really was like a completely different person from the regular Sam (who I was very glad to have back, might I add.)

    5. Yes, please! This, times a million! I miss the boys' closeness. That so very unhealthy codependency... *sigh* It'd be nice to have that back. (I sound like a terrible person, don't I? ^^) Here's hoping we get at least one good brotherly moment between them... And I hope they worry about each other. I love seeing Dean protective and worried over Sam, and Sam protective and worried over Dean. It just...rocks.

I have high hopes for this season. I hope they don't plummet. I'll watch anyway, because I love the show, and the characters and actors so much, but... Yes. Anyway. I hope they don't get rid of the Impala, I hope the boys stay on the same side and don't get into horrible fights (arguments, sure, but no repeat of the fight in When The Levee Breaks, please) and most of all I hope they face some awesome monsters!

Wow, super long comment, but anyway, I can't wait! Seven days!

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1. Haha! Oh, fanfic, what have you done to us? :D

    2. I don't want any badness to befall Bobby but that house has become too much of a homebase for the boys. Remember what happened to the Roadhouse when it because too much of a homebase? We're WAY past that with Bobby's.

    3. I miss Hendrickson, too. I like when the boys run afoul of the law.

    4. I appreciate having Sammy back, but I'll admit I miss Soulless!Sam, too. He had such a fun sense of humor when he wasn't killing people in cold blood.

    5. The boys, together, that's my number one hope. They have such an unhealthy codependency, but it's what I love most about them. They'd die for each other and have done so.

I fear for the fate of the Impala, based off comments and shooting images, but I hope that if they have to ditch it then it's only temporarily and not often. The car is a character, just as much as Dean and Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My hopes & dreams for the new season definitely include:

    1. GHOSTS! - come on, make me scared again. Make me feel like I'm watching a horror movie, like in the good, old days. Give me some creepy children and haunted places.

    2. Demon hunts. Exorcisms. Devil's traps. Like when killing a demon was still a hard thing to do.

    3. Brother moments, filled with both drama and humour.

    4. I agree about the police & law problems. We haven't had those in quite a while.

    5. I also agree we need new faces, instead of Cas - Bobby, Bobby - Cas all the time. Even Crowley, as awesome as he is, is getting a bit of an old story for me.

    6. I want a Big Bad which is really BIG. And terrifying. An Azazel/Lilith/Alastair kind of bad.

    7. I want the amulet back, and Dean's leather jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have only been grossed out once on the show (that was the opening of My Bloody Valentine), but I've been scared a few times with the creepy creatures the show can come up with.

And I would love to get some more brotherly humor. Dean being a giddy little boy and Sam rolling his eyes at his older brother's antics, it's fun!

I wouldn't mind having the amulet back (I miss it, as do many fans). Sadly, the jacket was stolen and not likely to be replaced :( But it was nice while he had it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with pretty much everything you've said.
I love Bobby and I like the idea of his place being a refuge of last resort, but they have been there a lot in recent times. But if things go the way some spoilers have suggested, - if Bobby's house is gone or in some way cut off from the boys, if the Impala does have to be stashed (god forbid) - then I think we'll get that 'brothers together on the road' vibe back. (Which is after all what the show is fundamentally about)
In the current issue of Supernatural magazine Sera mentions that Marcy will be back. So I'm interested to see where that goes. She was fun.

I'd love to have the amulet back. To me it signifies the brother bond. We've been told the boys are on the same page once again, and it would be great to have the amulet there to symbolically reinforce that.

My greatest hope for season 7 (aside from the hope that it'll be followed by seasons 8,9 & 10) is for fans to unite for our show as we did for the TV Guide cover poll. I don't mind honest critical comment but some fans sound so angry and bitter I can't help wondering if we watch the same show. While I understand that complaining is canon, and therefore obligatory for us as Supernatural fans, there is a point where I for one would watch another show rather than put myself through the agony some fans seem to endure. But that's just me.

Anyhoo - thanks for this! Can't wait till next week. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jesse and Adam are the only two characters I wish would be retconned if we have to have them back again.  Personally, I hope they stay in there own little worlds but if Jesse does come back, then it better mean that with the Apocalypse over he no longer has any powers.  He is far too powerful for a place on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bobby is high up there for me too (sometimes my favorite), but I also won't mind him having a lesser role in Dean and Sam's life as long as he isn't killed.  I'd definitely be in for more than 4 episodes but I also see the potential for ratcheting up the tension by making it harder for the three to be together.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree about the brothers and especially about the police, but why invite trouble like you are with your last two lines.  It just makes people defensive or look for trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm not so sure what there is to guess about "leviathans" as the new season's Big Bad(s). They're ancient sea dragons from Judaic lore, specifically the Dragons of Chaos. Hard scales, breath of fire, their presence causes Order to cease... It's just a matter of how far the writers take that last bit, and also which interpretation of leviathans get used.

For example, the Biblical leviathan is only described as having one head, but some lore describes leviathans as having seven. The Biblical mention of the leviathan talks about the ferocious beast being God's play thing/pet (but the most terrifying monster ever to humans), but some of the non-Biblical lore talks of God creating only two leviathans and then killing one of them because the Earth couldn't house two leviathans without the whole thing being destroyed. Since the monster was referred to in plural in the spoiler, we're probably not getting that lattermost interpretation though, unless we only get two, and the second is only around for flashbacks or is a spirit or something.

Still, if there's anything that could be bigger than Lucifer in the long run, it would be the Dragon of Chaos, Leviathan. If God if Life, Order, and Good, then he can only be opposed by Death, Chaos, and Evil. We've got Death in the picture, now we've got Chaos. (And we've already debatably had Evil through Lucifer.)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dear Marcy, are you over the trauma of the woodchipper yet? (I feel so bad for her, haha.)

I miss the amulet, especially what it stood for. I know Kripke thinks fans put too much emphasis on it, but this is gift that Sammy gave Dean and he NEVER took it off for almost 20 years. It means a lot :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would like to see a #Story4Dean. I would like to see his deal with death explored more, and I'd love to see the faries after him,and I think it would be cool to see him still have a connection to the ALPHA vamp. I would also like for him to get some resolution to his issues.

I hope they dont get rid of Bobby's house. I like that they have a place they can regroup, and call home.

I hope also that the monsters are more scary...I'd rather the show scare me then depress me.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I feel like Dean's increasing addiction and depression issues have to be dealt with soon, else it's going to consume him. It would be nice if they were addressed at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree...not only will it consume him,but its extremely depressing to me...lol I dont want them to have dean forever drink and do pills to DEAL....and then just say he's a hero so he can handle it better then normal people....for me that kinda takes away from the human side of the story...

    ReplyDelete
  49. That would be awesome!! I loved it when they showed that dean had swallowed the ashes, and THATS how he killed eve...and I've always loved how they had him make a homemade EMF meter, and the salt rounds. I miss seeing that side of dean...I  hate it when dean see's himself as stupid

    ReplyDelete
  50. skeptical_inquirer17 September 2011 at 02:38

I'd really rather they not do the addiction thing because it'll come off as a leftover from Sam.  Also, they won't really tackle the real cause of Dean's depression so it's kind of a moot point.

I'd rather he gets a storyline where he's actually badass and a hero.  I don't want another round of him being looked down and being called a liability like he was all last season long.

    ReplyDelete
  51. skeptical_inquirer17 September 2011 at 02:41

I agree with you about Bobby.  I'd really rather they make the one-shot guests more interesting so it's emphasized that the guys are saving people who are worthwhile.  I want more saving and less killing in terms of overall mission emphasis.  That's been missing for a while.

And Cas getting killed while probably damned is not exactly enticing either.

As for Sam, I'm just not interested unless it actually makes him learn something and isn't all a huge blazing arrow point at him for the audience to feel sorry for.

    ReplyDelete
  52. My hopes are:

    1.  More of Sam and Dean being close again, which I think is likely with Sam's unstable mental state.  I'm sick of them fighting.  I'd also like to see bitch/jerk again.  :)

    2.  Some good old fashioned scary episodes again.  Back in season 1-3, there were many episodes that made me jump or that I didn't exactly want to watch in the dark by myself.  Some of those would be nice again.

    3.  I'd really like to see Dean's amulet back.  I know it's unlikely, but I'd love having Dean get it back somehow, especially now that he and Sam are close again.

    4.  More classic rock!!  The show just doesn't feel the same without it, but I understand that getting the rights takes money.  :(

    5.  Less angels.  Don't get me wrong, I loved Castiel, Balthazar, and Gabriel, but I think the angel storyline has gone as far as it can go, and I'd like to focus to be back on monsters, demons, and the like.

    ReplyDelete

I'll agree with the Cthulhu thing ONLY if they up the special effects money.  It was supremely bad last season.

I'm not interested in Sam, Sam, Sam.  If he does pop out souless!Sam or screams at night, he's not going to be much use as a partner to anybody.  Or at least have someone admit that Dean should take control of the wheel because he's stronger and less messed up in the head and show some sympathy for him.  I don't want to hear Bobby yelling at Dean for resouling him or not being able to fix him.

I don't see why a good strong storyline that Dean owns isn't up there.  It's something that would get a lot of very ambivalent Dean fans to watch live instead of DVR or migrating to some other show.  Dean could find the Holy Grail or have any of the dropped storylines in the past like eating phoenix ashes, killing an angel or whatever actually MEAN something and have Dean mean something.  I'm disappointed that the whole righteous man thing didn't mean anything at all.

I think the amulet should never come back because I'd like to think that it should also symbolize throwing away something that needed to be thrown away.

  55. I'd like to see a good storyline for Dean that follows through until the end.  He hasn't had one in seasons, it's time for one. So many have been dropped that would have been fun, I would really like to see one of them be completed this year.  Good article about that at Innsmouth free press, the author says it all. Otherwise, I just like the show, don't want much Hell, but will watch it anyway.

  56. I love the brotherly bond. The more they can delve into that, the happier I am! And with a rocking soundtrack, it makes their lives even more fun :)

  57. "Or at least have someone admit that Dean should take control of the wheel because he's stronger and less messed up in the head and show some sympathy for him. "

While Sam has to deal with the multiple personalities, I'm not going to say Dean's right in the head. They're both extremely messed up, but with their co-dependence on each other they try to make it work.

I tend to think any Winchester storyline is a shared one. It's not Sam's story or Dean's story, but the story of the brothers. Together, they can take on the ills of the world and usually win.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I always see the brother storylines as shared, so even if it's Sam dealing with blood addiction or MPD, it's how the brothers deal with it collectively.

I agree with you.   Sam had various storylines all to himself:  The Boy King, the demon junkie with powers, and how to whack the strongest being in the world all by yourself.

I don't understand why there shouldn't be one for Dean and why there would be an iota of any resistance to the idea considering Sam's already had several.

I'm pretty much making Fringe a priority without news of a Dean storyline that doesn't make him just a caretaker but a hero, someone who actually acts to save the day and not get sidelined at the last minute.

On the other hand, insisting that Sam be in charge in that kind of condition over a normal (or at least healthier) Dean just makes it seem to say Sam at his worst is way better than Dean at any time.  That's not something I will swallow.

Sam basically owned a bunch of different storylines like the demon blood storyline, and the Boy King storyline and now he's going to have the Sam-cubed storyline all to himself.  Taking care of Sam doesn't mean he shares the storyline, it just makes Dean a supporting character, which is something I have no interest in.

I really do not want Dean being written as wallowing because I'm sure his family will taunt him.

If they really want something to get Dean fans excited, just have him work to save Castiel and be the primary hero of that arc by doing something proactive and out of the box.  Basically that's the only thing that'll make me watch live.

    ReplyDelete
  62. skeptical_inquirer  -- you said it.  I agree.  I love this show, but the lack of a Dean storyline is troubling and the lack of any information at all in regards to him makes me wonder what is going on. Do I want to be so invested in a program that ignores one half of the equation?   Not sure.  And Kimberly, I think in a perfect world there would be an equally shared storyline between the brothers, but that is not what I see.  What's Sams is Sams, what's Deans is Sams, all stories lead to Sam.  Okay fine, but at least, follow through with a few of the threads that have been given to Dean and have been ignored.  That's not too much ask, is it?

  64. Sorry.  The writers said sea monsters were kiboshed this season.  You'll have to get a tentacle fix on Pirates of the Caribbean.  However, with all this emphasis on monsters, I think we have the potential to get some great ones.  That will make both of us happy.

  65. Agreed.  In fact, it seems like lately both brothers are getting shafted in the brains and especially the wins column.  Would be nice to go back to things they can actually win against.

  68. I think adding addiction and depression on top of everything else that sounds like it will happen in this season will be too much.  We've already gone the utter despair route in season 5 and for me it made for the worst season of all.  We have to get a bit more lightness this season or the whole thing will crumble under the weight of Winchester worry and guilt.

I consider myself a fan, but I would much rather Castiel redeem himself by dying to save the brothers from some evil he unleashed.  I would love to see the brothers working equally to save the world and themselves from this new big bad.  Mostly though, I want to see them win more than lose and smile more than cry.  That would get me very excited.

I'd rather the writer even things out by giving Dean something of his own.  If  I see one guy get his own sandwich and another guy have his very own slice of pizza, then I'm going to insist the third guy gets his own burrito all to himself.  It's only fair.  It doesn't make it fair if the other guys give the third guy the leftovers and the crusts of their meal.  Sure the 3rd guy technically got something to eat but I wouldn't call that a proper meal by having to scrape by on "helping" others eat THEIR meal.

Truly, I can't see that anybody would think the 3rd guy got a good lunch of the mess.

I just don't get the resistance to a good strong storyline for Dean.

After all, I watch ensembles and I think even supporting characters deserve meat now and then.  If Dean doesn't get his own interesting storyline that's important to the mytharc, then at least I want the pretense that he's a lead to be dropped because a lead has his own storyline by definition and is not just a supporting player in various other storylines.

I'd also like to see an independent, non-codependent, confident Dean.  That would be non-redundant and would make Dean sexy instead of sad/pathetic/need.  And I'd like to see a storyline where everybody just has to adapt and accept it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. No..it was the homebase aspect, according to Kripke.

  73. I don't know, this whole show was set up from the beginning to give Dean the mission of "protect Sammy" and that's what he's been doing (and failing at during certain times) throughout his life. That's always been his through-line storyline and it's been satisfying to me.

    ReplyDelete
  74. skeptical_inquirer17 September 2011 at 05:51

Actually I thought his storyline was to grow out of that and feel OK about being by himself.  I was pretty disappointed that he's basically Sam's little toy soldier, just shifting allegiance from John to Sam.  That's not growth, it's really sad.

The problem is that people end up having a lot of contempt for him because they think he's stifling Sam and it doesn't help that Sam repeatedly accuses of him this during the show so I'd rather that he be fine all by himself rather than subject himself to more complaining and judgment, especially when he didn't get much support when he needed help during S4.

After all, even the most devoted mother often finds having the empty nest to be something good for her after a while and most women usually get to have some sense of identity before she had a kid.  Dean got his identity obliterated at around age 4.  I've never asked anybody to devote their lives to anybody else forever and ever; it's not a life.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm usually the biggest proponent against brother wars on this site but even I will not be satisfied if Dean's whole "through-line storyline" is simply protecting Sammy.  It does both brothers a huge injustice because it will stall their characters.  There has to be growth for both and that means they need to move away from this.  I'm not saying that they shouldn't be close because that is the number one thing they need on this show right now in my opinion.  However, they both need something else for the story line to continue working.  I'm hoping that the Big Bad will allow both brothers to use their talents more effectively this season.  They complement each other but they also need times to shine in ways that have nothing to do with crippling co-dependence.  I'm hoping that the PiP of the week and Big Bad offer them both time to do just that.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Though that's kind of the point. His demon self even mentioned that back in Season 3. He wore John's jacket, he listens to John's music, he drives John's car, he was Sammy's brother and mother and protector. His identity is based on other people. It's sad, but it's Dean. That's why it's so nice to see him have those brief little boy moments (like in Frontierland) where he can be a kid for a brief amount of time because he never got that growing up. He's been burdened with his task since he was four. Never a child, always a soldier.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'm not taking sides on the brothers, I love them both. They've both grown and changed over the course of the seasons and that's both bad and good (they're much more depressed now;) I'm satisfied with where they've gone and where they continue to go. They take on the world together and sacrifice themselves for each other. Despite the challenges and separation that they go through, I know they'll never give up on each other. I'm happy with that.

And I LIKED it when he realized that about himself and John but I need him to take another leap in regards to Sam and himself or that becomes another in a long line of dropped storylines for Dean.

I just watched a documentary about people who have spent a good chunk of their lives living horrible lives but they manage to turn that around.  Dean deserves more than moments and he deserves a storyline where he actually does get to redeem the value of his life.  If he doesn't get to then it just feels like it's saying about people in general, don't bother, they're too screwed up, just give hope and just get the most use out of them that you can.

And part of being a soldier and never a child was taking care of Sam and that's a cruel thing for a parent to do to a child is shuff their responsibility onto another child.    I need Dean to be free of something he should never have been forced to deal with.  Dean being punished by John when Sam ran away by shifting blame for Sam's running on him . . . it just seems like the show's doing the same thing and considering I loathed John for doing that, it doesn't do any wonders when it comes to the show.

    ReplyDelete
  79. You're right, season three Dean was that person who had not yet defined himself.  In subsequent seasons he lost most of the trappings he had collected from his father and became his own person, the leader of Team Free Will, and a man who foiled heaven's great plans.

How his character was set up in the pilot, is one thing.  It is seven seasons later, he should evolve from that original version as any character, or person would, as Sam has.  Dean is a co-lead, his character should be more than a sad little soldier for his father and then his brother.  It does no service to Sam or the show for Dean to be nothing more than Sam's sidekick.  I don't even think I want to see that show, and it is not the one I have been watching.

I want strong, smart Dean and I want him to have a storyline that is his and that is finished from start to end. I only say this because nothing has been said about Dean this season.  We know Sam will have a storyline.  I am just hoping the writers give one to Dean too.

    ReplyDelete
  80. ALL OF THIS! Season sounds awesome, Sam and Dean FTW. \o/

    ReplyDelete
  81. You know, you almost make some good points, and then you ruin it by running down Sam for having some of the qualities that you seem to want Dean to have - a sense of independence, a stronger sense of self-esteem, and the capacity to question what the life of a hunter and John's upbringing was doing to them.  I'm all for Dean having a great storyline (unlike you, I think he has had a pretty meaty storyline so far), and I'm certainly in favor of Dean letting go of some of the unhealthy patterns of thinking and behavior (I see some growth here already), but that doesn't mean that Sam should be punished.  This isn't Sam's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  82. That may have been Dean's original purpose but that was 6 years ago.  Why does everything have to stay the same?  In the X-Files Scully was introduced primarily to debunk Mulder's work but she ended up getting abducted and it set up a big storyline her her along with Mulder trying to find his sister.

Dean can still be a protective big brother if he has a storyline.  One shouldn't have to cancel the other out.  Scully still remained the skeptic even after her abduction.  Her original role didn't change, it just grew it enriched the character and added a whole new layer to the show.  Change doesn't have to be a bad thing.

The show keeps trying to shove Dean back into this big brother role but they keep writing Sam as growing further and further away from the little brother dynamic, to the point where Sam even told Dean that it made him prefer the company of a demon.  You can't come back from that.  If you're going to declare it bothers Sam that much then you need a really good reason why Sam's suddenly okay with it.  Sam's hell storyline is not a good reason because we have spoilers from Jared himself that he tells Dean, no he's not all right but its his problem and he's dealing with it, and in episode 3 he wants to hunt on his own because its a problem from his past.  So Sam clearly does not want protective big brother Dean back.

To shove Dean back into the box where his primary role only sets him up for failure because Sam doesn't want to be protected, we've seen time and time again.    Unforgiven is a prime example.  Dean tried to protect Sam by telling him not to scratch the wall, yet Sam got defensive that Dean was trying to tell him what to do and he lied about the flashback at the start of the episode and again lied and snuck out.  With recent potential spoilers for The Girl Next Door, we have rumors that Sam runs away again and posters are defending Sam with- he's a grown man he can make his own decisions while simultaneously cheering that Dean will be Sam's big brother again.   To me that just seems like a contradiction.

Dean can be there for Sam as Sam can be there for Dean, and Dean may have just been introduced to be Sam's protective big bother but the show itself has evolved to a point that forcing the brothers back into the big brother/little brother dynamic just doesn't work anymore and does both characters a big disservice.

  83. Dying shouldn't be the automatic result of making a mistake.  Otherwise Sam and Dean should have died and stayed dead several seasons ago.  It's much more fulfilling to see a character learn from their mistakes and show actual growth.  Besides, Cas has already died for the Winchesters at least a couple of times now.

    ReplyDelete
  84. But he has been evolving. Just because he has the through line doesn't mean he hasn't changed. His goal is and forever will be to protect Sammy. Sam's through line, to me, has always been his attempts to just be normal while coming to the realization that he can never be. It doesn't mean they haven't changed from the people we saw at the beginning, it just means those are some repeated issues that keep coming back again and again.

"and in episode 3 he wants to hunt on his own because its a problem from his past."

Actually, Sam disappears when taking on that case (much to Dean's unease), so it may be related to the fact that Sam doesn't have a good grasp on reality (he doesn't know what's real and what's memories or fantasy, so he may think it's back then rather than now when he sets off to find Amy.)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hi Kimberly,

I get what you're saying, but I have to disagree in that I've seen more growth beyond this than you have.  As an older brother, Dean's instinct will always be to protect Sam, but I don't think it's his "role" or "goal" anymore.  I think they dealt with this in season 5 when Dean agreed to not stop Sam from jumping into the pit.  That doesn't mean that the two brothers won't become very protective when one is in danger or injured. We saw this with Dean when Sam was soulless or his wall was breaking, and with Sam during all of season 3 when his only mission was to save Dean from Hell, and in season 4 in his efforts to protect Dean (On the Head of a Pin) who had been damaged in Hell.

I also think that Sam has accepted that he'll never be normal.  It was addressed when Sam stopped fighting the life of a hunter, and when he said yes to Lucifer. I don't see any desire on Sam's part to run away anymore.

I think Dean's struggle in season 6 was to face the truth that he can't be both a hunter and a father, and that meant sacrificing something that was very important to him.  Sam's struggle was to put himself back together again after his experience in the cage.

    ReplyDelete
  87. If Sam doesn't have that good a grasp on reality it highlights this story lines fatal flaw.  If he can't tell whether he's coming or going he shouldn't be hunting solo, he shouldn't be hunting period.   The show needs to provide a really good explanation as to why Dean or Bobby would even consider it.

Say Sam is trying to protect a hostage and roboSam pops out.  The hostage is now in just as much danger from RoboSam as they would be from the monster because we have seen in Twi-hard, TMWKTM, and Unfogiven that RoboSam will take care of himself first even if it means sacrificing the hostages.

Or what if Sam and Dean are in the middle of a fight with a monster or demon and Sam freezes because hell Sam pops out, not only does Dean not have anyone to watch his back but he now has the additional burden of trying to save Sam?

My issues is with the writing for Sam here, not with JP.  I'm sure JP will act the hell (pardon the pun) out of it but its not a practical storyline with the parameters of the way the show works.  If Sam is that messed up he's a liability on a hunt.

  88. 1. It's made me a twisted, twisted person. Oh wait, I think I was like that to start with. ^^

    2. Very true. Yes, I see your point. If it needs to be done, it needs to be done! They did say this season all their advantages would be taken away, and that house is a big one. Where will Bobby go? Maybe he'll hijack someone else's house from the town he lives in.

    3. I hope the law is after them again! That would be fun.

    4. He was pretty amusing. I have to admit that I laughed when he sat Dean down and told him with an utterly blank face he didn't care about him. Even if I shouldn't. Then there was his scene with the fairy lady...

    5. Their codependency... I love that beyond words. And them dying for each other. Is it just me, or have they seemed not as close in season six? Did anyone else think that?

If they have to take another car occasionally, okay, I guess I can accept that. if they get rid of the Impala permanently, I'm going to go cry in a corner.

I'm all for Sam going off and doing his own thing.  I'm just tired of Dean being yelled at for being in the way.  Sam can go climb Mount Everest or be a car dealer or be a unicorn, I just want Sam to accept responsibility for his own growth or lack thereof.  So yeah, Sam doing his own thing is fine, but I'm really tired of demon-tainted Sam, souless!Sam, fallen!Wall Sam where it's always something wrong with him preventing him from really being responsible and Dean gets beaten up emotionally and physically in the meantime.

So yeah, I'm really, really, really fine with Sam being independent, responsible and doing his own thing.

  92. I agree that dying shouldn't be the only option for making a mistake but for me they need to get the angels off Supernatural.  The best way to do that is to redeem Cas with his death.  I think Cas deserves a death on par with Ellen and Jo and it would effectively shut off the angel plot line that I feel should have ended with Cas dying in Swan Song.

It's like if Dean gets a storyline, people react as if Sam won't have one but that NEVER happens.  Sam will always have a storyline/mytharc no matter what.  For Dean, the only season he really had one was S4 so I don't get all the panic if Dean gets a second season of having some importance in the story.

    ReplyDelete
  94. This is an excellent analogy and the most reasoned response I've heard to what normally comes down to a "I like this brother better" debacle.  Thanks for making it about the show and not personal.  I agree that the show needs to let the characters evolve away from the co-dependency so much.  Just because you aren't stuck in the same rut your psychologically abusive father put you in does not mean that you can't be close.  Dean and Sam will always be there to die for each other, no question, but it would be nice to show that they can live for themselves and still be close as brothers too.  That's healthy and allows both brothers to be who they are.  Without it, we get brother fractures and fighting like in season 4.

  95. skeptical_inquirer17 September 2011 at 17:45

S4 finale where Dean's pissed that Sam ran off with Ruby and is all "he can do what he wants," Bobby calls him a whiny princess.  And after lecturing him about "letting him grow up" and saying part of the reason he ran off with Ruby was his bossiness, Sam then asked him to be his big brother in 99 Problems and that just infuriated me.  They want him to be the big brother when they want him to be and don't when it's convenient for them so I'm all "I'd rather Dean find a role that makes him happy and finds value in himself rather than be constantly in a state of 'pull me/push me.'"

    ReplyDelete
  96. I agree with what Dahne's response.  My main problem with this comment is the assertion that Dean's "primary role" on the show now is Sam's protector.  I think Dean's primary role is a hunter.  The show is about two brothers hunting the supernatural.  Their personal storylines have always been secondary.  If they weren't, this would be a soap opera.

But getting back to Dean's personal storyline, in addition to his worry about Sam this past season, Dean's bigger personal storyline has been his struggle with his role as a hunter.  In my opinion, he left Lisa and Ben because he missed hunting and felt out of place in their world - not because he was worried about Sam.  He didn't know Sam was soulless at the time and Sam flat out told him that he was doing fine without him.  The smile on Dean's face when he opened the Impala's trunk said it all.

But throughout the season, everything related to hunting turned against him.  He found himself hunting monsters for a demon.  He was told by Ben that leaving them to go back to hunting meant walking out on his family.  He was told by Death that most of the good he'd accomplished as a hunter - saving people and changing destiny - had messed with the natural order and caused disruption on a global scale.  And then finally his friend Cas (in trying to continue what Dean had started - averting the Apocalypse) was at least indirectly responsible for the release of Eve and directly responsible for a door to Purgatory being open.

Dean of course is going to worry about Sam, just like Sam would worry about Dean if the situation were reversed, but Dean's real struggle right now is finding meaning of his life as a hunter. It's dark and depressing, but it's a storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  97. The situation was reversed though, and I don't call what Sam did in season 4 as worrying about Dean.

Dean's been trying to discover the meaning of being a hunter since season 2 when he questioned why they did it in WIAWSNB.  If its a storyline, fine but the writers need to actually have explore Dean's feelings in this area.  I thought they were doing that last year, but after YCHTT Lisa pretty much told Dean to get lost but oops no it was really him not answering the phone.

Usually when Dean's having a crisis of faith the the shows usual MO is to have an episode where Dean is taught a lesson and told to suck up his problems because his life is awesome, doesn't he realize he gets to sleep with woman and drive a cool car.

I figure this  will be the message behind the trial in Fefending You're Life and will be surprised if it isn't

Then Dean makes a speech like in French Mistake about how they matter
than next season when asked what his storyline is only to be told he's
going to soul search and reflect on his life as a hunter.

So, I don't exactly blame people if they dont' consider this a storyline or have many hopes for it to play out on screen, or last more than an episode or 2.

  101. I just don't see a lot of people "yelling" at Dean.  In the Bobby example, ok, but that was a one-time occurrence and it was two years ago.  Sam and Dean are brothers.  Family tells you things that no one else would dare say but that you need to hear.  And Dean gives it right back to Sam.  He told Sam that Sam was a monster that others would want to hunt, and that he thought Sam didn't have the will to stand up to Lucifer because he was angry and full of self-righteousness.  So I guess we'll have to disagree here.  I don't see Dean as a victim who is mistreated.  I think he's highly respected by his family.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Sam worried a lot about Dean in seasons 3 and 4.  Mystery Spot was all about Sam not being able to let Dean die.  The flashbacks of Sam while Dean in Hell, during I know What You Did Last Summer, shows how worried Sam was about Dean.  And we saw concern for Dean from Sam when Dean got back from Hell, even though Dean kept insisting he was all right.  Sam kept trying to get Dean to talk about Hell, and he was protective of Dean in On the Head of a Pin. It's a different situation because Dean put up a good show of being OK, whereas Sam was clearly not OK, and also because Sam's reactions were starting to get mixed in with the demon blood influence.  But there was a lot of concern.

  107. "Me and My Brother Against the World: Above all else, every season, I just want the boys to be together. Let's keep it up!"

This x 1000. I totally agree. And s7 looks the most promising for their relationship for a long time. I can't wait!

  108. I'm very excited for this season!

  109. I also want the amulet back. It is like an itch in a spot I can't reach. It needs to be back round Deans neck ASAP.

  110. I don't understand what "kiboshed" means...and then you say that you think we will get some great monsters...? You're confusing me, Dahne.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I loved Bela. She was definitely a way to trick the brothers into having to use their wits...

    ReplyDelete
  112. I do love those chalky smoky outlines on the ground around a fallen angel. One of the coolest things about SPN's version of angels.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Sorry - sea monsters are not going to happen this season according to the writers.  That idea was turned down.  However, there are rumors of all sorts of cool monsters floating around so I still think we could have a monsterific season.

  114. every one has such great ideas ...  I can not wait to get back to it

  115. Actually, Castiel said he gets stronger when Lucifer walks. Which means he'd still have powers.

I just think there's something wrong with a show that keeps them dysfunctional and really depends on keeping them miserable and dysfunctional.  I don't see either of them being truly happy being stuck with each other.  I can easily imagine either of them happier with someone else as long as the other person was alive.  It's like watching two prisoners in a chain gang being called "meant to be" because they can't get rid of the other but it just makes me want to saw the chain and set them free.

    ReplyDelete
  117. They are dysfunctional, no arguments there. But just as they are each others' weakness, they are also each others' strength. I don't think either of them can be happy without his brother. They were raised in a life where they could only depend on each other and that's shaped their personalities and who they are. Sam tried, but he's not going to ever be normal. Dean tried, but he can't leave behind the hunting life. It's who they are. As Zach said, "Sam and Dean Winchester are psychotically, irrationally, erotically codependent on each other."

    ReplyDelete
  118. I believe he understands that it's been written that way, that's not the argument, I believe what he means is that he doesn't think it should've been written that way in the first place.

I'm on the fence myself... I think it's just a device to continue drama until the end of the story comes into sight and they amend the brothers' strained relationship and then put them in their respective places in the end.

However, their situation in the SPN world isn't 100% original in the context of the show. Apparently it's a common thing to happen to hunters as things go on, everything turns to s*** and that is the tragic end. Taking that ending and applying it to two hunters that grew up hunting together as brothers, well that's arguably the expected outcome. Now, what will ACTUALLY happen in the end I have no idea. I hope they end it well.

Sam seemed pretty happy with Jessica and Ruby and has left Dean before multiple times so I'm not that big a believer in Sam liking things the way they are.  There are a lot of marriages where people stay together, fight like the dickens and make each other miserable.  Just because they're stuck together doesn't mean they should stay together.

Zach's statement isn't something to be crowed about, it's an absolute tragedy and I also don't find Zach that credible considering he also berated Dean by saying Dean had a great life just because he had a fast car and could get busy with a lot of women, totally ignoring the enormous psychic and physical costs of the hunting life.  The show has become an exercise in hopelessness to the point that I think the kindest thing to do to the brothers is to pull an Anna on them, kill them and scatter their atoms so they don't get resurrected again.

If there's no hope of being less miserable or getting any better than I don't see how that can be anything but a turn-off.  It's just a version of Hell on Earth.

  120. I'm thrilled the show is finally returning to it's original concept, focusing again on Sam and Dean Winchester and that third uncredited character their relationship. That is what the show is all about, the two of them against the world, hunters on the road, following in their fathers footsteps, killing things and saving people, making a difference. And all of this got lost, well  suffocated under the Angel mythology which started brilliantly but did the show and all its characters no favors.by overstaying its welcome by seasons and as yet to leave. Hopefully soon.

It  would be nice if they returned to the smaller personal stores like saving a family from an angry polergeist. Big is not necessarily better Loved it when the myth arc was filtered sparingly through out a season or two,and  that myth arc and the Supernatural a backdrop to the story of Sam and Dean
Dean's role in the show is not protector of Sam. However being a big brother and looking out for Sam is a huge part of who Dean is,it always will be. It's one of the most endearing parts of this show.

Dispite the whining about Dean not havng a storyline (that I don't agree at all with) which comes like clockwork each season with unjustly bashing Sam for it There is one Season 5 Dean  that they did miss and that I really wished they addressed and that's Castile being Deans Ruby

Quoting Jensen Ackles  "I feel the relationship is squared away. Sam is obviously battling some demons internally so I think Dean is kind of keeping a watchful eye out for his brother not in a "are you going to turn on me but in a I'm don't want to let you fall." So you know it's that brother supporting a brother thing and I think that's a big part of this show and I'm glad we're back to that this year." I'm glad too

The Dean that we knew?JA: I think more or less. I mean, the experience is still there and that hasn't gone away. That's another added layer to the character -- the fact that he has dealt with this Sam in a completely different way and so that's going to raise the bar on him protecting Sam from ever going there again. So there might be even more of a protective manner. He was always a protective older brother, but now it's like, "I know what the penalties are if I let him go."---------------------This is what I love about Supernatural the brotherly love and I'm looking forward to Season 7 because ti was finally returned to us mid Season 6.Dispite the whining about Dean not havng a storyline (which I don't agree at all with) which comes like clockwork each season ( before it even starts) with unjustly bashing Sam for it. 122. I'm looking forward to the brotherly relationship as well. It's one of the biggest things that draws me in year after year.

  123. That's an interesting question.  There are so many great talents out there, it would difficult to put a name to just one.    If the Leviathan is the Dragon of Chaos, will it have a human form the dragons and the Phoenix had last season?  I would so much rather they use a computer generated creature, but it would be expensive.  I don't see them getting more money for that.  It would have to be someone who could exude  the danger that Chaos would bring.  I had heard there would be two.  As said before, some of the lord says two.  I may be crazy but I think it would be awesome to have Michael Rosenbaum do it.  He is capable of it, but an older actor might be better.  Brent Spiner or Lance Henriksen would be good.  The ultimate in my imagination would be Julian Sands.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Another concern is what they going to do with the Impala?   I don't want them to ditch it.  Couldn't they repaint it and keep gong?

    ReplyDelete
  125. From what I've heard Crowley  will be in it but not on the boys's side or Cas'  it's feasible that Crowley will be Crowley...looking for his allies for his own benefit.  I don't seem him changing at all.  I would like to see Cas redeemed by God and turned human.    I agree that there has been too much Bobby but I would like to see him more involved in working with sheriff, hunting elsewhere.  Jim Beaver has said that Bobby no longer has the answers because the boys are fighting things that have never been fought before, or the lore is not there on them.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I have no problem with is hair.  Jared says he doesn't want to cut it.  Jensen would like to see Dean's a little longer.  I must admit the one summer he grew it out, it looked good.  I keep thinking if they are majorly on the run, they wouldn't  have time for haircuts.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I agree.  It was beautiful at Nashcon.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I can't understand why the law hasn't already been after them.  Sam was arrested last season.  His prints are in the system.  He was hunted by the FBI along with Dean.  Henricksen went after them both.  They got arrested in Arkansas.  Why didn't a red flag go up last season?

    ReplyDelete
  129. Jensen and Jared said it was more like Bobby was going to get laid.  Jensen did say that Dean hit on someone in a bar and said it had been a long time.  Well, it has.  I hope they get someone somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I just hope Edlund doesn't get his wish for space aliens.  Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I guess he sees himself as stupid because so many treat him that way.  There are those who see the other side of him.  I know he's insecure, but the scene at the nest when he was a vampire was incredible.  They should have given us a little more of Dean in full frenzied fright mode.  It impressed Samuel.  It wasn't the Campbell in Dean that made him that way.  It was the Winchester.  Dean can be a badass.  We all know it.  One thing I do hope.  I hope that the soulless Sam's ability to fight remains.  Sam is good but very soft hearted  at times.  The thought Sam and Dean fighting like that together gives  me chill bumps.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I really liked Bela. Her interaction with Dean as an antagonist was interesting.  I was always wondering who would initiate the next attack.  I have wondered if Dean saw her in Hell...if she was one of the ones he tortured.

    ReplyDelete
  133. The scenes in Clap Your Hands were so funny.  The ones involving the fairy lady were classic comedy. I loved when he asked Dean if he'd serviced Oberon.  What was interesting was the look on Dean's face and lack of comment.  The response to Dean on the phone when Dean was running from the space ship.  I loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  134. There was  moment in Frontierland when we had Dean as the giddy little boy and Sam rolling his eyes.....I'm a posse magnet.  The grin on Dean's face was very much little boy and I loved it.  Most of the episode, he was that way.  It was such a nice change.

  135. I have the attitude that if Supernatural is on, I will watch it.  It's my show.  I am  loyal.  If don't like something, I'll tell the writers.  I'm not against letting them now my  views, but, I'll never stop watching the boys.  I've told people many times that as much I love Cas and Bobby, Supernatural is the story of Sam and Dean Winchester and that Impala.  It is no one else's and never has been.  I loved the story lines that included Castiel and Bobby, but they are not the end all and be all of the show.  The was great before them and it will continue to be great whether they are there or not.  That's what it's all about.

    ReplyDelete
  136. They have to ditch it for at least one ep, but maybe Bobby will FINALLY put the glamour on it and the boys can keep going. Seriously, this long and it doesn't have a glamour on it? Why not?

    ReplyDelete
  137. I agree about the angel story line.  It has run its course.  I would the idea I have about the amulet to happen.  Sam picked it up out of the trash.  Maybe he gave it to Bobby to keep.  I don't know.  I'd like for something to happen between the brothers to bring a closeness back...a real closeness.  I would love for Sam to give the amulet back to his brother, because is as important this season as he was when they were kids.  Sam knew that it was Dean caring for him.  The stealing, the lies...everything was for Sam.  Sam gave him the best gift ever he understood how much his brother cared for him.  That's what I would like to see concerning the amulet.

    ReplyDelete
  138. thank you for this its exactly how i feel about bobby no offence to anyone who likes him but i wish they lessen his appearances i feel the boys are relying on him way too much =D

    ReplyDelete
  139. Since I started watching the show in season two, I have thought that Dean and Sam might have to drift apart.

I mean, the co-dependency is a big issue in the show and they have truly shown the good and the bad of it. To have always someone to rely on but at the same time to center your life around one person, your brother, and that no one will ever be as important to you. And it could be valid if you go for it, but season 5 showed us that Dean craves for a normal family, and maybe Sam too, so what, are they putting their real lifes on hold then?

Because that's the other thing, neither Sam or Dean seem to move forward. Rightfully so most of the time, as the fan on top of them is permanentely shit-stained. But since season 5, we know that they want different things and independant lifes from each other. Or have they moved past those independency whises and know that they are the most important thing in life to each other?

And if this is the last season, I want to see that. Fight what they fight, I want them to aknowledage this reality. And I'm not even saying that they SHOULD separate, but that the desition itself, and what leads to it has to be revisited and focused on.

So that is what I'm expecting this season beyond the myth arc, resolution about their relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I think they've already acknowledged that, though. Each time they do separate, it becomes apparent that their reliance on one another won't let them achieve a semblance of normality apart. They need each other too much, they are each others' soul mates. I think they've finally accepted that they are indeed each others' greatest strength and greatest weakness and are working to solidify that relationship into one that is as healthy as they can make it (not that it can ever been healthy, but they're working on it).

    ReplyDelete
  141. I agree with you - it's fine to let the writers know if there's something we don't like. And I agree that the show is about Sam Dean and the Impala. I love Bobby and I tolerate Cas, but regardless of what happens to either of them I will never give up on my show.
My issue is with the very vocal few who relentlessly pound the rest of us with their dissatisfaction, and rarely have anything good to say. Those are people who get me wondering why they bother watching if they can only find negative things to say.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Interesting choices.  I haven't seen Brent Spiner in much lately so it would be awesome to have him back on the screen.  I think due to the budget, we are doomed to a season on humanoid monsters again, although it would be awesome to have one budget-blowing monster to rave about.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I'm choosing to believe that he was joking.  Of course, it is Edlund so who knows.  If he was serious, then I take comfort in knowing that there is no way the CW has enough money in the budget to do space aliens.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I never thought of that.  I just always assumed the people Dean tortured were random bad guys.  I kind of like the idea that it might have gotten personal.  Of course, that being said, no way in Crowley's neverending line do I want to revisit Dean guilt over hell.  Let's leave that one in the past.
