It was alright. Pilots tend to just establish a place and a few characters, so it's always hard to tell. I'm looking forward to trying out a few more episodes before I give it the yay or nay, but I'm pegging this as the typical pilot episode for a situational comedy.
I completely agree with the new family to the neighborhood's attitude. It's almost like a live-action Daria without the uber-annoying Beavis and Butthead humor.
I have to admit I LOVE the mocking of sheeple and their suburban consumer based identities! This went from a "pass" to a "watch a few and decide". It's nice to have a cynical sitcom that makes fun of societal norms. Not just touches on them in a humorous way, but slaps them with reality! If they make a joke about TV shippers I'm 100% on board for however long the series runs!
I think this series borders on being fantastic, but sadly the border region is more mediocre than great or even very good. A lot of the jokes seem to just miss being funny for some reason. Either the writing or the timing is off or maybe the delivery... I can't put my finger on it.....
Some jokes hit perfectly like the Fellini joke! Great stuff! This had far more potential than I expected.... I will be watching a few more episode... I think.
I kinda loved it. It has a very good balance of cynical and heartwarming, like it knows that its making fun of things, but it doesn't go full on satire. The afct that not all the suburbia moms are souless atumatons (atomata?) and that Tessa feels genuelly touched by the gesture was kinda cute.
I hope the clash between what is and what Tessa believes, like the inverse of the "don't judge a book by its cover" thing. And the cynical parts were really funny, texting bimbo being my favorite.
A few of the jokes were kinda hit and miss so I hope that gets better, but overall it has been, suprisingly, my favorite new comedy of the season (so probably will get cancelled after 4 episodes, given my luck (Casue I like New Girl too, but Jess borders in mentally unstable and Wyans replacement isn't as funny))
THe promos were really bad and didn't do the show justice. It was much better than I expected. Nice to see that they gave the Cheryl Hines character some depth and it was great o see Alan Tudyk back on tv.
for a show i wasn't planning on watching.. it turned out to be pretty funny.. It fell flat a couple of times but saved itself with surprising moments & humor.. I loved the waitress offering herself up on a bed of your choosing. It was great to see Alan Tudyk again.. the sugarfree redbull, constant texting, flip flops with track suits and extra large iced coffee was hilarious and spot on !
It was ok, I felt like it needed to be longer so we could get a better sense of the characters. Alan Tudyk was funny and I'm glad to see Cheryl Hines back on the TV after not being in Curb much this season
I thought it was sweet! Definitelly has (and needs) room to improve, but I think if you give it some time it will find it's footing. It does seem to have it's heart in the right place. So I'll definitelly be tuning in again.
Not bad at all. It's kind of like a live-action Daria. Alan Tudyk's character was great. I'm glad he's a regular. I liked Arden Myrin's character too. She does crazy well.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting to (which is why I have only just got around to watching it). I will defifinitely try another episode or 2.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I hated it. The only good parts were the dad and the guy they were eating with.

I liked it but I had no kind of expectations going in plus I was taught a new word " Vagetarian " lol

ReplyDeleteI stopped watching Modern Family during season 2, but looks like I'll love this new show, the pilot was great.
