Beauty and the Beast - CW to Develop Reboot

16 Sept 2011

The CW is developing its own Beauty and the Beast Project.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the young-skewing network has ordered a script based on the 1980s CBS drama that starred Ron Perlman as Vincent (aka the Beast) and Linda Hamilton as Catherine (the Beauty).

As first reported by TV Line, the rebooted project, set up at CBS Television Studios, is described as a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist. Brothers and Sisters duo producer Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper are attached to pen the project and executive produce alongside Paul Witt, C. Anthony Thomas, Ron Koslow and Bill Haber.

  3. You might be thinking about Once Upon A Time which debuts this fall on ABC.

  4. You're correct, ABC ordered a script for this, producing and writing are Jonathan E. Steinberg, Gary Fleder & Mary Beth Basile.
Anyway, the CW version sounds even more awful. A modern take on the story with a procedural twist? Ridiculous...

  5. Oh for goodness sake, i wish they'd stop ruining all the classics! Plus the CW will make this all about 13 year olds or something, gah. The only good thing that can possibly come of this is more people hearing about the original series, and checking it out.

  6. I loved the original one. I complain about remakes constantly!  I hate to say this because everyone seems to be upset but I will definitely watch it.  Beauty and the Beast is a classic but it never gets old for me.

  7. Needs to get picked up first and right now I highly doubt it will be.

  8. Just read this on a website:
I’m told this was the first project new CW president Mark Pedowitz discussed with CBS Studios head David Stapf when he succeeded Dawn Ostroff in the spring. Side note: This B&B is not to be confused with the B&B pilot that ABC is developing for next season. That one is based on the public domain fairy tale about a girl forced to live in a castle with a beast who eventually wins her heart.

  9. Two competing horrible ideas going into development simultaneously - that's a new low.
