Two and a Half Men - Season 9 - Charlie's Funeral to Begin the Premiere Episode

2 Aug 2011

I've got more information on the shrouded-in-secrecy ninth-season premiere of CBS' comedy Two and a Half Men, which will feature the debut of new star Ashton Kutcher and which I now hear will be a two-parter. I have been able to confirm that Charlie Sheen's character Charlie Harper is indeed dead and the season premiere will feature his funeral. Charlie's girlfriends will come back for the occasion, and his house indeed will be put on the market. The episode will feature potential buyers coming to see the house (as I reported earlier, the list is expected to include real-life celebrities and stars from Men co-creator Chuck Lorre's other series), with Ashton Kutcher among them. However, I hear he will not be the rightful owner of Charlie Harper's digs by the end of the premiere episode, with the storyline expected to be extended into Episode 2. As part of CBS and Men producer Warner Bros. TV's efforts to keep details of the premiere under wraps, I hear the cast has been asked to sign non-disclosure agreements, something potential audience members for the Friday taping will be required to do too.

  1. I guess it's best to get it over with in the first episode and get the new version of the series on its way.
Having all his old girlfriends pay their "respects" to him could make for some hilarious moments....

I would watch my back though if Rose is around!

  2. I just want to know how they'll fit all of them into a two-part episode? I mean the logistics are mind-boggling. :P

  3. Ha! XD

    Fast-forward? Time lapse photography?

  4. I'm really interested to see who the stars from his other shows will be!

  5. I thought Alan and Jake would inherit it.

Wow, they could have done this SO much better. Killing the character out of spite is just stupid.

Why not have him stay in Paris with Rose? Or move to someplace with Rose?

  7. Completely agree, but Lorre is a vindictive and petty man... Spite is in his wheelhouse so to speak.

  8. Not stupid in my opinion - by killing him they've given themselves a big dramatic plot-line with which to build a new start. The death, funeral, stress of having to sell the house and tension of finding a new owner all create stuff to riff off. Having Charlie go on holiday would be pretty dull, there'd be no tension, no problem with the house ownership, etc.

Thinking about it objectively i think it's the right way to go, will make for a more interesting start.

  9. We can't presume that's why the decision was made - see my above reply to Christian for another possible explanation.

  10. I agree with you that the fastest and most efficient way to move on would be to kill Charlie's character.

I was mostly referring to his past of taking jabs at people in public via his title cards at the end of the show.   Lorre has a habit of poking fun at people in public with his title cards. It's petty Charlie was an idiot and Chuck showed he was jsut as bad... sadly..

That said, I love his shows and that spite and pettiness makes for some fun and all-around awesome characters in his series.

  11. More like really massive group shots, where the camera pans out over the crowd rather than focus on individuals. Oh, oh, nasty thought in progress. What are the odds that Denise Richards will reprise her role of Lisa?

  12. Fair point - i haven't read many (only those on the first season of Big Bang Theory and those were pretty awesome and fun) so have probably missed some of that unpleasantness. Certainly doesn't seem like anyone has come out of the situation looking particularly shiny eh??

  13. Ha! I don't think so.
I guess the die-hard Sheen may think he looks good, but I think he looks a bit nuts.  Some Sheen-haters (or non-fans to be nice)think Lorre did nothing wrong, but they're deluded too.

The worst part to me is that one of the most popular sitcoms of the last decade (if not ever) will likely be in a downward spiral now.

  14. nah, that would mean Alan's life would improve in a financial way. From the first minute of the show he's been a broke, emasculated, homeless loser :D changing that would ruin a lot of humor in the show

  15. This is going to suck more than the final seasons of Scrubs and That 70's Show combined!

  16. Yet it would be logical, in an episode of Season 3 or 4 when Charlie Was afraid to die or something he said in the hospital that the house would go to Alan and Jake, I mean I don't think a lot of people remember that so they can use it to their advantage

  17. I guess CBS and Warner Bros in Winning!!!! (Charlie Sheen voice)

  18. I'm curious to see how the story will unfold, even when I'm not officially following this show...

  19. A funeral doesn't sound funny but it worked with Friends and Mary Tyler Moore so who knows.  I'll be checking out the first two episodes but I don't anticipate this will ever be on my must-watch list.

  20. Yes. Plus in 8x14 Charlie said that if Rose's husband kills him, Alan can have his house and his car to which Alan seemed rather pleased over :D

I always had a storyline in my head after the news broke, the story being that Charlie stays in France or whatever with Rose, with Alan and Jake inhereting the house from him as a last gesture to his brother; however, they cannot afford it, and are forced to rent out a room to pay the expenses, present: Ashton!

They can still to this tho, maybe that's how it ends up? Alan inherets it but cant afford to?
