Shonda Rhimes - New Hotel Drama in the works

Thanks to Spartigus15 for the heads up.

Never one to let grass grow under her feet, Shonda Rhimes — who already has two shows on ABC (Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice) and a third (the legal drama Scandal) en route for midseason — has now sold to the network a period drama penned by The Nine co-creator/Gossip Girl scribe K.J. Steinberg.

Set in New York City circa 1895, Gilded Lillys will tell the fictional tale of the first true luxury hotel ever built in the city, the family who owns it, the staff employed by it, and the guests who pass through

  1. Please Shonda! Concentrate on the one you already have!
But I'm gonna watch it anyway if she makes it... at least the pilot :)

  3. She may be laying the field for the end of Greys Anatomy, I suppose...

  4. That's the thing. I like her other stuff enough to give anything she makes a shot. :)

  5. Indeed, sounds interesting! Hopefully it will not disappoint!

  6. Sounds and feels like Arthur Hailey's Hotel and the TV show of the same name starring James Brolin. I remember that short-lived series?

  7. Agreed completely. She needs to not spread herself so thin. I'll check her stuff out, but still.

  8. They lost me at Shonda Rhimes.... and Hotel....

  9. This is only a script purchase so I can really only say that if shows like The Playboy Club, Pan Am, and Hell On Wheels don't do well this fall, there's no way that ABC is going to back another period drama next season.

  10. For God's sake, woman, STOP! 4 shows by a single creator on a single network... Let's make ShondaTV and make it a national television......

  11. Hadn't thought about that. But it's a good point.

And as much as I love Grey's I have to second Darque - the hotel part gave me pause. On the other hand I'm also tired of Shonda doing medical dramas. There's just no pleasing me. ;)

  12. Shonda tweeted it was trully her show, she is just the "godmother" to it.
