  1. Gossip Girl is viable for syndication after this season - will up its renewal chances, yes?

  2. Looking good for Supernatural to be renewed. Mark Pedowitz has said that they're not planning on S7 being the last - it will depend on ratings though. Based on the 2nd half of S6, Sera & Co have found their groove, and there does seem to be a new wave of excitement for S7. I'd love to see Supernatural continue for several more seasons provided the energy and commitment of everyone involved remains high.

    90210
    Ringer
    Vampire Diaries

  5. I think that
TVD and SPN will certainly be renewed. I hope Nikita too. 90210 and Gossip girl won't, at least one of them. The ratings of these 2 shows were awful... and if HoD Sc and Ringer will all have a great ratings, to make space for new shows next year, they will sacrifice the old one. It's time for Teen drama to say GOODBYE.
I'm not sure if HoD can become an hit. We'll see... it seems like a nice new show, with Rachel Bilson, will people go for it?

  6. The fact OTH is still alive, makes anything possible. But I think 90210 should be put out of its misery. the dixie show will totally get axed

  7. Hope Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill are gonna get cancelled to make room for some new and better shows.

  8. TVD and SPN are not getting cancelled. Whether you're a fan or not, I don't think there are a lot of people who could disagree with that.
I think Gossip Girl could probably tie up the end in this coming seasons. But by my calculations they have a year left on their contracts and with possible syndication coming up I don't think they'll get cancelled.

However, I do think 90210 is in the danger zone.

OTH is in it's final season, so that's a no brainer.

Nikita seems popular enough already to get a 3rd season and hopefully being the lead in to SPN will be a good move.

I think Ringer would have to be a seriously crappy show, which it doesn't look to be, for Buffy fans not to carry it into a second season at least. We do loooove SMG.

Secret Circle. Well, I don't think it'll be as succesful as TVD, but being in a similar verse and being the lead in should make it survive for more than one season, I would think.

Hart of Dixie is dead in the dust in my humble opinion. Should anything get pulled early at the CW that would be my bet. But I live to be surprised.

  9. Ringer is still nowhere in sight on my cable channels.

  10. they might as well announce season 4 for TVD! =D

    ReplyDelete
  11. renewed: TVD, Supernatural, Ringer, Nikita
cancelled: OTH , 90210 and Gossip Girl (at least, I hope it gets cancelled if the writing is as absurd as last season!)

  12. From your mouth to God's ears!

  13. I really don't think TVD and SPN are getting cancelled. Both shows are very popular.90210 I don't know,I think it may be in danger.I don't know if Gossip Girl will be cancelled, but I think it should. The last season was awful.OTH is ending,it was already announced.About the new shows,I think Ringer and Secret Circle may stand a chance, but I didn't find Hart Of Dixie interesting at all. We'll see.

  14. Renewed: The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Nikita, Ringer, Gossip Girl, Secret Circle
    Maybe: Hart of Dixie
    Cancelled: 90210

  15. Without a doubt Ringer is a guaranteed wont be cancelled show.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Isn't OTH already announced to end this year?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Actually, yes, you're right. OTH season 9 will be the last.

    ReplyDelete
  18. As long as Supernatural gets renewed, it's all good.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Breaks my heart to say this, but my money is on "Last Season for GG."

    ReplyDelete
  20. Everything gets renewed except OTH, Hart of Dixie, and the 2 new reality shows.

I want Hart of Dixie to be good and I want it to be successful but it's not a good match with Gossip Girl (even though the producer is the same) and it's going up against DWTS and House.  It may have a tough time holding onto viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am a huge Rachel Bilson fan as well, but I am sad to say that of the three new shows Hart of Dixie is the show that I see getting cancelled. The Secret Circle has the potential to do well thanks to its lead-in, and Ringer is no doubt going to be renewed for a second season.

I think Nikita is doing well enough to be able to go on for a third season and like others have stated Pedowitz did say that he would like Supernatural to go on.As for Gossip Girl and 90210, I have a feeling that what they are going to do is air this season of GG and then say that next season will be "the final season" kind of like what they did with 90210. The actors are still contracted through a sixth season and though they all seem to want to move on from the show, I just can't see the CW letting this one go just yet.

  22. Anything that gets over 1 million in demo is automatically renewed.  Even Sarah Michelle Gellar can't raise an network that quickly.  Give her a couple of years.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Don't think One Tree Hill should be in this contest.  The network has already proclaimed it to be the final season.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Gossip Girl will reach over 100 episodes this season.  That's a given.  After that, it already has the syndication number it needs so it actually decreases it's chances of being renewed solely for syndication.  Gossip Girl needs to have the ratings for it to be renewed next year.  The biggest problem for GG to be renewed though is the change in CW leadership.  Gossip Girl was widely perceived as Dawn Ostroff's baby.  Now that she is gone, GG doesn't have that protection.  It will come down to where GG's ratings are compared to other shows this year.  It has to hit 1 million in targeted demo to survive in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It has to continue to hit over 1 million in target demo to be guaranteed a renewal.  I think they will pull out the promotional stops for Supernatural's last season just like they did for Smallville so barring a ratings crash, Supernatural will get an 8th season.

  26. Man do I hope H8R tanks.  Everything about that show makes my skin crawl.  Why would I want to spend more time with celebrities people hate or with people who are obnoxious in that hate?  Just get self-absorbed obnoxious people behaving badly off my screen period.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Vampire Diaries is the surest bet for renewal here and Ringer will have to tank badly before the CW lets go of the SMG marketing tool.  They need Ringer to be a success to rebrand themselves.  I agree that 90210 and Gossip Girl are on the shakiest ground of all.  If the CW truly wants to run with the other networks, these two will be sacrificed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. One Tree Hill is in its final season.  It's been announced and will begin midseason.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Have to agree on most of this.  If any show gets pulled early, it will be Hart of Dixie.  Gossip Girl got extra episodes and needs to hit 100 so it will be canceled at the end of this season not pulled in the middle.  90210 won't make it another year if even one of the new shows beats it in ratings.  Give SMG's popularity, 90210 goes.  I wouldn't expect to see it pulled early though either although this is the second bet for that possibility.  However, my guess is that none are pulled early (the CW rarely does that since they don't have a lot to plug holes up with) but if Ringer is a bonafide hit, there will be a lot of shake up in the line up next year.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It would have to average less than 500,000 in the target demo to be yanked.  That many people will tune in just to support SMG.  Ringer is in the sweetest spot of any new show on any network.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Right there with you. It is beyond me that someone thought that would be a good idea for a show.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Keeping in mind the points you make about GG further up in the thread I would have to concede that this could be the final season, and I do think it would be pretty easy to finish everyone's stories. I think one of the reasons I have doubts about GG getting cancelled after this season, is that 90210 wasn't cancelled last season, though I have to admit I can't recall the specific ratings and rating developments. Doesn't GG have a couple of inches to fall before they are on a par with 90210?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, I hadn't even considered what shows they would be going up against. But House! Rachel Bilson is just not better than Hugh Laurie.
Pity about HoD since I was quite looking forward to seeing Tim Matheson again. Loved him on West Wing.

  34. You don't happen to know how Buffy did back in the day, do you? I don't think Ringer can be compared since it isn't groundbreaking in the same way, but I'd love to do a comparison just out of curiosity. Is there anywhere that keeps old numbers? Where do demo ratings go to die?

    ReplyDelete
  35. According to Wikipedia, Buffy averaged between 3.6 and 5.3 million.  I don't expect Ringer to get nearly that top amount.  The WB and UPN never got top notch ratings as it was, but once they were banded into CW, ratings dropped dramatically and have gone down ever since.  I think Ringer topping 3 million consistently would be considered a great win for the CW.  My guess is they hope for over 4 million for the premiere and 3 million there after.  Wildest dreams - over 5 million for premiere and 3.5 million there after.  If it hits that, my guess is that the CW does major rebranding and pilots for next season will be very diverse from past years.

  36. I'm excited that Tim Mattheson is going to be on Hart of Dixie simply because that means there's fewer chances that Dead Larry will appear again on Burn Notice.  I'm all for Dead Larry staying in prison a few more seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Shows that are cancelled will not be compared by last year's numbers so it won't matter that Gossip Girl had better numbers.  What determines Gossip Girl and 90210's fate is the new shows.  It is unheard of for a network to NOT launch new pilots each year so that mean automatically something has to go.  The CW will likely launch 3 new fall shows.  Their budget and time limitations make launching more shows unlikely unless they do go into the 1/2 hour comedy direction like has been suggested.  One Tree Hill is definitely gone but it's a midseason show.  I expect H8R to go too, but they will likely replace that with another reality show since they are the cheapest to produce.

That means that 2-3 hour long dramas will have to go.  If Hart of Dixie has better ratings than Gossip Girl and 90210, it's a no-brainer that those two go.  The question becomes what happens if Hart of Dixie fails.  The CW wants to lessen the hiatus season so there aren't as many repeats.  If they fast forward that idea earlier, they will need midseason replacements. That leads lots of interesting options.  Something new slotted for midseason could become a fall show instead.  A show that might have been cancelled, like Gossip Girl, could become a midseason show with its last season like One Tree Hill this year.

Everything will depend on how this season goes.  The CW definitely needs some uphill traction or the whole network is in danger of falling into the sea.  They are counting on Ringer to provide that traction and for Vampire Diaries, and to some extent Secret Circle, to keep it moving.  If the ratings rise for the whole network, they can afford to be a bit more aggressive.

  38. Thank you. It's really interesting to get some insight into these things.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well, there are couple I would like to see gone, but not many.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with you.  Really should not have a show in its last season as a part of this.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Totally agree... No celebutards on our screens..... please

  42. As long as Nikita gets renewed, I'm good. From reading all the comments, everybody seems to think it will, so I'm happy.

  43. Gossip girl with his fifth season is in syndacation. So they can cancell it without problems. I think that if HoD will become stronger than 90210 and GG, they will save HoD and cancell both of them. If it will fail, they will order 13 episodes for GG(the last season) in midseason, cancel 90210 OTH and HoD.
They wants to have comedys, procedurals, a superoic show and a reality about singing,so if H8R fails they will put in that slot another reality.
They have to make space to other shows, it's normal i think ;)
