I didn't know Haven was Canadian. So that. + Rookie Blue, Combat Hospital and King do it for me. I've seen a couple of eps of Flashpoint and it was really good, but I didn't have the energy to pursue it more, but I'm willing to try again.
Being Erica is such a great show. I hope when they do the US version (ABC bought the rights) they don't mess with the formula. I love Erin Karpluk as the lead as well.
Lost Girl, King, Sanctuary, Combat Hospital, Haven, Rookie Blue.
Lost Girl - It's pretty damned fantastic.
King - I didn't want to like King. I planned on ignoring it. I wrote it off as a blatant ripoff of The Closer but it turned out to be pretty good in spite of that.
Sanctuary - It's just a time-waster for me. This show is only sporadically decent.
Combat Hospital - Another time-waster. For a show set in a war zone, it's dull and sans personality.
Haven - Pretty good show but could be better. Haven is very slow in answering questions and some of the "troubles" are just silly. (also: bring back Audrey #2)
Rookie Blue - It's an unabashedly soapy, hilariously unrealistic, logic-defying cop show. So why the hell is it still fun to watch? It's a mystery wrapped in a miracle.
Call Me Fitz is a terrific show, one of the best new shows of 2010/2011 in my opinion. I honestly didn't expect much from it and I was amazed to see how well written this dramedy is, they develop an interesting storyline throughout the season. There's a great chemistry between the two leads, and their co-stars play pretty weird, funny characters, it's a cable show (HBO Canada) so they're able to push the envelope (on the cursing, for instance), and they do. There are quite a lot of fucked up situations. I loved it. I'm watching Wilfred this summer (awesome show as well) and the relationship between Ryan and Wilfred reminds me of Larry and Fitz's.
On the other hand, I watched the first 7 episodes of XIII a few months ago, and then I had an epiphany : I am a masochist. I can't think of one thing that I liked in any of these episodes. The directing, the editing, the acting, the $10 budget per episode : it was awful, even worse than the TV movies made a while ago. I didn't find the courage to watch episodes 8 to 13. As a fan of the comic-books, and as a fan of quality television, I was hugely disappointed.
I think I'm gonna have to watch Lost Girl. I heard it's quite cheap, but I also read people who enjoy Buffy will like this show and I'm a Buffy fan, and there's never enough sci-fi shows, so I'll manage to put my hands on the first season before season 2 starts. As for ended series that I'm planning on watching, I've got ReGenesis and Intelligence on my plate. I heard good things about them and as a fan of the spy/thriller genre, I feel that these shows might be for me.
I was going for informative but it came out snarky instead. I do hope more people are willing to give Canadian shows a chance, though. There are some good ones out there.
Call Me Fitz is good? I was interested after seeing some promos, then totally forgot about it and then read somewhere that it was pretty terrible and so I didn't bother to check it out.
I love Degrassi. I've been watching since The Next Generation ones started. I'm a little too old for it now, given that I'm a college senior, but its too addicting
Well when I watch the first episode I thought it was going to be more of a typical spy series and because of that I thought "That was terrible" but I was laughing. When the episode ended it grew on me. I watched a few more and I like the spy-genre spoof aspect of it
Some of the humor is cute and some really cheesy, but It's entertaining now that I know what to expect. I've never seen another show like it honestly and that's a good thing usally.
I think I've watched 5 or 6 of the 13, but plan to watch more... I honestly forgot about it for a few months until seeing this list of shows.
I remember hearing about Blackstone as a pilot and I thought it sounded somewhat interesting. I never heard a thing about it after it aired and didn't even know it was on.
:) Heartland all the way! Such a great show doing real good in Canada. Great drama, great actors, mix of sad and funny story with al the family values. And Mallory is just SOOO hilarious xD There's not an episode going by where she's not making the audience laugh
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
none :P

ReplyDeleteMy first thought after watching the first episode was... It's about time. This genre was prime for spoofing. Really like the look of the show too.
ReplyDeleteI remember hearing about Blackstone as a pilot and I thought it sounded somewhat interesting.
