The Lying Game - Flops in ratings

16 Aug 2011

UPDATE: The Lying Game received a mere 1.386 million viewers and a 0.5 Adult 18-49 rating 45% retention out of Secret Life, and 62% lower than than Switched At Birth and 29% worse than Chloe King.

The Lying Game was not amongst the top 100 cable shows for adults 25-54 for Monday night, Most ABC Family series always make the list (The Unsuccessful Chloe King is the only one that occasionally misses it, but even that made it for it's premiere).

ABC Family has not even tried to do a positive spin on the numbers and has not issued a press release.

  1. Not surprised by this. I made it through 30 pages of the book before I gave up completely because it made no sense whatsoever.
And isn't there more than enough teen-mystery type shows on ABC Family as it is?

  2. With so many other shows being about cops, lawyers, supernatural or superhero.... I'm all for another mystery show honestly.

Although they do have Pretty Little Liars which is definitely mystery, Switched at Birth which has some minor mystery elements, and 9 Lives of Chloe King which has some mystery elements to it.... although it's mope supernatural than mystery I guess. That is a lot for a channel with so few original series!

  3.  there's still Ringer and Revenge to go i hope they dont flop like this

  4. Yep.  I'm guessing Ringer will do better and not be as soapy as this was. Revenge seemed like one of those Summer series (Harper's Island, Persons Unknown, HappyTown) that runs for 13 weeks and is cancelled.... so I'm not high on it.

Then there's Alcatraz, Person of Interest, The River, Missing and Scandal all have mystery elements.... I hope fully something will hit!

  5.  im pretty sure Person of Interest will gradually turn into the standard CBS procedural, Scandel is also more on the procedural side

I am really looking forward to Alcatraz, Missing  and The River though in addition to Revenge and Ringer

  6. I didn't watch Harper's, but I like Persons and Happy Town... I just wasn't happy with the way the series ended. Hopefully a full 22 episodes would correct the unfortunate endings that both Happy Town and Persons Unknown had in my opinion.

I think you're right about PoI, but i suspect there will be a strong mystery mytharc to the season of more procedural episodes. Who is this guy? How does he have this information ? etc

  7.  Harper's was actually my fave of the 3 you should try it out!. and it also "ended" rather than being cancelled unlike the other 2 ! i agree about Happy Towns ending
considering CBS fired people on Blue Bloods to make the show more procedural im not that optimistic about serialized elements on POI they will probably go with the same ultra slow pace as say the red john story on the mentalist.

  8. I just watched it and liked it as well but to be honest I never heard of the show until a couple of days ago.

  9. Are you serious? I thought the series was great! Maybe they should've waited until the fall but I liked the show.

  10. I think that's the problem too; this show was barely advertised compared to 9 lives of Chloe King and Switched at Birth. It was a hit on Twitter but that's all.

  11. In all honesty, I thought this premiered in the fall.  Maybe it was the weird start time.

  12. I didn't think it was possible for a newly launched ABCF show to do worse than Chloe King.  Go figure.  Who knows, maybe since Chloe King isn't low man on the totem pole the show can squeeze out a renewal from the network...

    Nah.  Probably not.

  13. Harper's Island ended properly but they decided not to pick it up for a second series(which I was fine with. S1 was very self-contained.)

  14. I don't think Ringer will flop. Sarah Michelle Gellar is on that show so even if it is really soapy (which I doubt it is) there will still be the loyal Buffy following behind it. Revenge on the other hand, I can see it possibly failing...only time will tell I guess.

  15. I'm not surprised that this show didn't do well. There wasn't much mystery to this show and certainly not as much of it as Pretty Little Liars, and 95% of the Pilot Episode was mostly teen drama that we've all seen thousands of times before from Beverly Hills 90210, One Tree Hill, The O.C., Gossip Girl, 90210 etc.

  16. Doesn't appeal to me whatsoever, so I'm kind of unsurprised to hear this.

  17. Harper's Island was amazing!!!

  18. This show is looking a little bit like Ringer, but more teenage-like and without Buffy,I mean,Sarah Michelle Gellar.

  19. They are coming back with 10 new episode in January.  If they are having bad rating on mondays maybe they should move The Lying Game to another night.  I love this show and Im addicted to it.  I want to see it go to another night instead of getting rid of it or anything else.

  21. This season they'll be sharing a time slot with Pretty Little Liars so hopefully that will get more people on board!!!
