Grey's Anatomy - Season 8 - One of these is the new Chief [POLL]

Thanks to spartigus15 for the heads up.

If you thought there wouldn't be severe consequences for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) tampering with the Alzheimer's clinical trial on Grey's Anatomy, you'd be seriously mistaken.

When the new season begins, Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9/8c, the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) will have made a self-sacrificing decision, taking the fall for Mer's misdeeds. Because of this, Richard Webber is no longer the Chief of Surgery. (Never fear, Pickens is still a cast member of the ABC medical drama.)

So who's taking over his position? TVGuide.com can tell you exclusively that one of the following Seattle Grace docs will be the new boss in Season 8:

Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson): The Chief did once tell her she'd someday run the hospital, but is she ready to take on that much commitment when Tuck is still so young?

Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane): He was really competitive during the last race for Chief, but Mark may be busy trying to win back love-of-his-life Lexie (Chyler Leigh).

Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd): The Chief did ask Owen to pick the new Chief Resident, so trust and responsibility isn't an issue, but with Cristina (Sandra Oh) on the verge of deciding whether or not to abort their child, now may not be the best time.

Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey): He's been the Chief before, so you'd think he'd be a frontrunner, but honestly, been there, done that.

Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez): If Bailey could be in the running, why not Callie? However, she was fired from the Chief Resident position rather quickly a few seasons back.

So who do you think is the new Chief of Seattle Grace? Hit the comments with your guesses!

  1. I think it will be Hunt, but I'd love it if Miranda got the promotion :)

  4. Oh, Webber. And I have no clue! I'll go with Bailey since I doubt Derek would ever want the position again.

  5. I'd love it to be Callie, but she wasn't very good at being Chief Resident, so I've chose Bailey!

  7. That's nice of the chief to do this for Mer! I think it will be Dr Owen Hunt but I HOPE Bailey of course!

  8. I voted for Bailey, she´s been awesome from day one and I really think she´d make a great chief.

  9. i just think bailey is too "young" she literally JUST got out of her residency, as did callie.

  10. I'm thinking Owen. Can't see someone as early in her career as Bailey being elected to run people like Derek, Mark, Terry and Owen. I think she could do it, but I don't think it's a realistic choice, and I do think the cost to her private life would be higher than she'd ultimately like to pay.

  11. I have a suspicion that it will be Hunt.

  12. I think Bailey's private life would take a back burner as it did with her marriage...shes not truly invested with Eli its a fling.  So, i dont think that would be a factor.  Her experience might play a bigger role of her not getting it, if she didnt get it.

  13. I hope it's Mark, he needs a story of his own.

  14. I think Owen would make a great Chief of Surgery, he thinks fast on his feet, the residents all like him.

Derek had the position and he quit so he won't want to be Chief again.

Callie and Miranda both need more time to grow as surgeons before they become Chief of Surgery.

As for Mark, he would let the power get to his head.

So I give my vote to Owen, he would be my choice for the next Chief of Surgery.

  15. I think it's either Bailey or Hunt but I think it's going to be Hunt. Not because Bailey's just became an attending but because we the fans would expect it, kinda like with the Chief Resident story (granted in the end she got the job). My question is with Webber gone, how would this affect Bailey's status as the Chief's golden child.

  16. "the residents all like him." ???
have you not payed attention the last two seasons? He's probably the biggest ass in television history. He keeps on hurting Cristina, which is why Mer dislikes him. After might having had an abortion, Cristina might not be too fond of him either. Alex is probably pissed too, as he didn't get the Chief Resident position.

Seriously, all the jerk ever does is shout and be all hypocritical although he's the biggest problem. He be chief and I think that hospital's kinda ruined.
