TVGuide.com can exclusively reveal that Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), whom the Chief enlisted to pick the new Chief Resident last season, will become the new boss.

What will happen to Dr. Webber? "He has already had enough as Chief," McKidd tells us. "He goes back to being an attending surgeon in the hospital. He gives Owen the job, and Owen is as shocked as everybody else, so it changes the whole structure of the hospital. Richard becomes like the all-seeing oracle, because he has all this knowledge. He's now a normal doctor, but everybody still comes to him. Owen, even though he's the Chief, comes to Richard a lot."

    Whoa! I'm surprised. I figured it'd be Bailey, but Owen does make sense.

    I was right!  I hope this leadership role helps Owen go back to being the battlefield badass he was when he first showed up and not the mess the writers turned him into afterward.

    I picked right, I knew it had to be Owen, none of the others made any sense, can't wait to see Owen in action as the Chief.

    They have been doing this too many times it lost the importance. I think the only one that would actually develop in a good storyline would be Bailey as she seems to be the only one with some sort of Moral and it would be good to see her conflict with all the stuff that goes down.

    I think Rhimes forgot who the originals are when she said season 8 would focus on the originals.  Unless, hopefully, it means we will see LESS of Hunt

    By "too many times" do you mean twice?  Because, counting the time Chief Webber stepped down to deal with his alcoholism, this is only the second time Webber has done this.

    I kinda feel it's gonna be the whole 'derek-becomes-chief-but-everybody-thinks-of-webber-as-chief-thing' all over again... -_-'

    Or maybe a completely new doctor... Or Peter MacNicol ^^

    Yeah, that's the choice that made sense to me. Watching Bailey do it would have been fun, but unrealistic given her experience compared to Hunt, Shepperd, Sloan, Robbins etc.

    i figured as much, though i hope they stop calling Webber chief cause when i noticed they still did that when Derek was chief, just a little confusing

    I love this choice. I hoped for it to be Owen because I think he's got the most potential for being chief. Yes, Bailey would be a good choice as well, but Owen just seems like the perfect choice for me. And I'm so happy this is what they went with.
