The steady flow of casting news continues… and now we have our own exclusive Game of Thrones casting to announce. The part of Jaqen H’ghar will be filled by German actor Tom Wlaschiha. Wlaschiha has appeared in numerous German films and TV series’ and also had a few small roles in Hollywood films such as Enemy at the Gates, Munich and Valkyrie. You can check out his showreel at his official site.

Jaqen H’ghar is one of a group of criminals that is being taken to the Wall by Yoren along with Arya. Tower of the Hand notes his appearance in the book as “slender and fine-featured, half of his hair is red and the other half is white.” HBO describes Jaqen as “sly, enigmatic, and a dangerous criminal, part of Yoren’s group of recruits taken from King’s Landing to join the Night’s Watch. A foreigner from the Free Cities, he speaks broken English. Seductive, charming, and very dangerous.”

  4. Sorry, though I've watched Enemy at the Gates some years ago, I don't remember him from this movie or any other work that he did.

  6. Lots of relative unknowns being cast.  Their casting people must be doing a lot of homework.

  7. Like it's been stated a number of times in a number of ways....

Most networks hire stars, HBO makes stars.

  8. I think once they dirty him up with road dust of Westeros, he will have that worn and weathered look to age him a bit.

  9. I vaguely recall him from "The Deep" but that series was so bad I tried to forget ever watching it.... XD

  10. Awesome. Don´t know him, but he seems great for the part.

this is a good week for casting news. Hopefully we will find out who will play Ygritte and the Boltens later this week.

  11. I've never heard that but it is fitting.  Alexander Skarsgård wouldn't disagree with you.

  12. Remember him from a few movies and shows. He was quite solid in most of them, but as usual I'm having troubles imagining German actors in American productions. But Sibel Kekilli already made a pretty good job in season, so why not...

  13. Always hard to picture people in a foreign language production I guess. Til Schweiger and Christoph Waltz was fab in Inglourious Basterds though!

  14. Sad thing is that after watching Inglorious Basterds we went out of the cinema and asked ourselves who this brilliant dude playing Landa was. An imdb check at home later we found out that he is in fact even born in Austria. I knew Waltz, but not very good and just didn't recognize him. Schweiger already did some US productions so I am used to seeing him that way.

  22. Is there an emmy for casting directors? 'Cos they've earned it.

  23. Actually, yes.  The primetime Emmy Awards do have awards for casting.
