George R.R. Martin just released another Froggy casting clue titles...

'A Lighter Shade of Pale'
Thrice nominated, once victorious. A double threat. He wrote the script for his own wedding. Has struggled against the Spider's sort, taken on Santa, caught a tiger by his tail. Never reads the same book twice. Last seen dancing home.

Hvae to run so no time to attempt this one right now, but try for yourself and guess the new cast member and their role on Game of Thrones.

***UPDATE***

Others have suggested Michael McElhatton as Roose Bolton (maybe Pyat Pree).

The man certainly fits the clues and looks the part!
- "Thrice nominated, once victorious." = 3 nominations for best actor and 1 win.
- “wrote the script for his own wedding” = Wrote and acted in Fergus’ Wedding
- "Taking on the Spider's sort" = was in a play called "Little Malcom and His Sturggle Against the Eunuchs"
- "taken on Santa" = The Santa Incident he acted in.
- “caught a tiger by the tail” = was in The Tiger’s Tail
- "Never reads the same book twice" = He Chapter 64 (Arya 10) "[Roose]Bolton turned a few more pages with his finger, then closed the book and placed it carefully in the fire." in ACOK
- "last seen dancing home" = last work listed on IMDB is Shadow Dancer

Plus there is a spoilery more appropriate answer to "Last seen dancing home" I won't post.

*****UPDATE*****
Michael McElhatton is indeed Roose Bolton!

You can see his show reel HERE. The audio is just ridiculously poor, but you can still get an idea of his mannerisms and ability.

"You've solved another one.

It's the distinguished Irish actor MICHAEL MCELHATTON. He will indeed be playing pale-eyed Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort"

  1. Can't run without attempting a first guess....

Lighter shade of Pale makes me think of Roose Bolton or Ramsay Bolton who are both notoriously light skinned.

The Tiger's Tale makes me think of Ciaran Hinds as Roose Bolton, but I haven't researched any of the other clues to see if he fits yet...

  2. After returning and reading posts on WiC, methinks it is Michael McElhatton.
-3 nominations for best actor and 1 win.-was in the Santa Incident = “taken on Santa”.-last worked on Shadow Dancer = “last seen dancing home”-Was Fergus in Fergus’ Wedding which he wrote= “wrote the script for his own wedding”-was in The Tiger’s Tail = “caught a tiger by the tail”
-was in The Actors = "Taking on the Spider's sort (Varys is called The Spider)

Still cannot decide if it's Roose Bolton though. I'm leaning towards Pyat Pree due to the song lyrics of "A Whiter Shade of Pale"

Pyat Pree is pale, and the song lyrics are about across the sea..... where Qarth is.

  3. Michael McElhatton is deathly pale. Was also in Tiger's Tale. He acts and writes, so double threat? Was in a movie called the Santa Incident. And....unfortunately that's where I run out.

Tiger's Tale seems to be the only movie (of those I found) that provides actors that would fit in to GoT. Tried the Santa connection, but I don't see them hiring equally pale Billy Bob Thornton. "Never reads the same books twice" leaves me completely blank.

  4. Don;t you hate when you post before updtaing the "just posted posts"? Ha! XD

I do that all the time and find I repeated what someone said.
I di catch a few of the stuff I listed, but most in the post were found by others.

"Deathly pale" to me does 'reek" of Roose Bolton.

  5. That'll teach me to spend too much time on IMDB double-checking. ;) I went as far out as Spencer Breslin, (really wasn't sure about McElhatton) just in case we were talking Ramsay. BUt I don't see him on GoT at all.

I don't know McElhatton as an actor, but just from his photo he strikes me as a little more creepy-cold than Hinds, which I would see as fitting for Roose.

  6. Hinds can do menacing and powerful bordering on cruel very well, but I agree with you.... McElhatton has an added creepy element that is almost essential to the Leech Lord.

  7. Saw McElhatton in Zen, but can't say I really remember much of him...

  9. Honestly it's a good deal of luck and research skill.
If you guess the right clue first and guess a name right, everything else falls into place!

  10. McElhatton was right. Yeah! Now I can't wait to see him as Roose.

  11. ... and thus continuing my streak of wondering, "just who the hell are these people?"  :)

  12. Ben Crompton has reportedly been cast as Dolorous Edd !

  13. I like that fact usually. Actors that have been around forever and done a lot, but aren't well known are usually more fun for me to watch.

Although I do wonder who they are too..... seeing as the large majority of Game of Thrones casting will be UK or European actors I guess we Americans are at a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to guessing.... or even recognizing them! XD

  14. It's been confirmed.

  15. Lol, true that. I'm really enjoying this actually. It means that, when I watch the show, I won't be burdened with meta-thoughts about their previous roles. That often leads me to become more immersed in the experience.

  16. They've been casting lots of newcomers as well as well established stage actors, which is really awesome. Lots of experienced hands to guide the newer ones on.
