HBO’s gripping drama Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling fantasy-novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, has permeated the public consciousness, drawing new audiences to the brutal Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, a land where summers can last for decades and where the threat of winter (and worse) always looms large. The show also did the seemingly impossible in winning over passionate adherents of Martin’s sweeping novels—the most recent of which was released in July—obsessively adapted by writers/executive producers David Benioff and D. I'm going to translate their lack of comments on Season Three as "If we do as good or better this year, HBO will renew us for a Season Three of 13 episodes..."

Great article. I almost wish they had cast Carice as Cersei and Lena as Melisandre.... Hmmm... yes, that I can see. Oh well. MY goal for Season Two is to not make one negative comment about my dislike of Lena Headey as Cersei.... *crosses fingers*
Season Two is really that much bigger than Season One... I almost pity D&D with having to adapt the book into 10 episodes over however many weeks the shoot schedule is this Summer.... almost.

ReplyDeletePersonally after reading the books (im almost done reading Clash of Kings) i think Cersai and Renly have the worst portrayals on the series
Agree 1005 with those two... Loras being a possible third role to add to the mix.
ReplyDeleteMost characters have been spot on or slight twists that highlight an aspect from the books, but those 3 were huge departures from their book character personalities.

ReplyDeleteIt´s funny, I didn´t mind Lena Headey as Cersei the first time I watched GoT, but after seeing interviews with L H and rewatching the whole season (and maybe having you guys wispering in my ears) I´m not fond of her either.
Season 2 is gonna be awesome!! Can´t wait. There is so many scenes that I look forward to. Only hope that most of them makes it.
agreed! 12, 16 or 20 episodes would be better than 10......but highly unlikely that we will ever see more than 10.

ReplyDeleteTruthfully, once the season ended and I watched GoT again she wasn't quite as bad. I don't think she grew on me as much as the shock of how different she is from the books has worn off.
If for no other reason than to not influence others overly much.... I will try to not be so repetitive with my nitpicking! That much I can do I think....
I'm looking forward to Season 2 more than nay show in a long time!
I watched about 6 episodes of GoT before I started reading the books. By that time Cersei already looked like Lena H.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading book 4 my oppinion of her only got worse.
I was really hoping for 12 or 13 episodes too. It seems like 10 episodes is almost becoming the new standard more than 12 or 13. For a series like Game of Thrones that just is not enough!
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting from this point on to see if they even attempt to keep seasons corresponding to the books. Season 3 will be more than one season for sure, but will they split it into 2 seasons?
They may just start up Season 4 wherever they leave off in book 3 and then end somewhere in book 4/book 5( since the material is in the same time frame).
I like that idea since it would likely mean more book material makes it into a season, but it does not lead to natural story climaxes for the characters.
It will be interesting to see how the future seasons play out!
Surely even if they only get 5 Emmy nominations next year (God forbid!) HBO will renew them? Don't you think?

ReplyDeleteMostly I meant that HBO might be able to give them MORE episodes if they get more awards or better ratings. I doubt it but I think that is the only possibility of getting 12 or 13 episodes. Slim a chance as it may be.
