Jake and Elwood Blues are on a new mission: to find a place in primetime.

A new incarnation of the Blues Brothers, the duo made famous by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in the late 1970s, is about to be pitched to studios and networks in the form of a new TV series.Current TV rights have long been owned by Aykroyd and Judy Belushi -- John's ex-wife -- while Universal owns the film rights. Belushi and former "Saturday Night Live" writer Anne Beatts, along with Wayne Catania and Kieron Lafferty, have penned a pilot.

  1. Two words: bad idea.

What made The Blues Brothers good were the characters portrayed by the original actors. OK John Goodman coming in after Belushi's death was good, but not the same. The lesser Belushi step into his brother's black suit and sunglasses is adequate at best.

Each movie has gotten progressively less good.... take that as a hint and do not make a TV series.. Please!

  4. Oh, holy hell.  Didn't "Blues Brothers 2000" tarnish the legacy of the original film enough?  Just leave it alone.

  6. Yikes!  Another remake from the 70's.  Hasn't Hollywood learned by now?  The thing about nostalgia is that new ones can never live up to it and you can't be nostalgic about something shoved in your face all the time.  Let's skip the remakes and reboots and prequels and companion stories and just reach for a good book.  There are plenty of those waiting for a shot at the silver screen.
