this trailer has jsut made me more excited about torchwood. Awesome first episode and looking forward to episode 2. Lets hope the trailer does the episodes justice
MY guess is that since the US cable Network Starz decide to join the BBC and co-produce it, they got the early premiere date as part of their deal. "We will help pay for 50%(?) of the production costs, but we get to air it before you do..." That kind of thing.
But a whole week? It's originally a British show! And making people wait that much later is undoubtedly going to mean people find "other ways" of watching in order to avoid spoilers. Ugh, annoys me is all.
I understand them wanting a prioritized air date, but I agree with you. Even one day before the UK means people will find alternative viewing methods....
Especially for people who are active members of sites like this, and so could easily be unintentionally spoiled. I saw the posts about ratings on Starz for the first episode, and they seem to be forgetting that the primary audience is probably going to be in the UK.
Right, but Stars doesn't care as much about ratings not on their site.
I was hoping that DarkUFO might do the weekly episode poll for the UK air dates. That way there would be less spoilery and we Americans could still say what we thought of the episodes.
Right. It's an interesting scenario and I really don't know what would happen if the US ratings bombed. Would Starz drop out of the deal and leave BBC looking for a new partner? Would BBC produce another series on its own?
I think the ratings were strong enough to not worry, but it is disconcerting!
But the ratings were around the same as Camelots and that didn't turn out so well. Maybe it'll be different because it's a partnership? Either way, I'm just happy we're getting Miracle Day because it's been so long since we've had new Torchwood episodes on TV!
From what I can gather, the BBC had a full schedule so couldn't fit it in before, but I also haven't got a source (can't remember where I read it). Seeing it after the US doesn't annoy me as much as seeing it so much later then Canada and Australia.
Now that's just mean, making the country in which the show originated wait the longest to be able to see it. It's like they actually want people to watch it online.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
God this is epic.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they are doing Torchwood justice.
ReplyDeleteThis was shown after the first episode in the UK. (Speaking of, anyone know why it airs in the US a week before it airs here?)
ReplyDeleteReally excited to see the rest of the season although I do miss the Welshness of Torchwood, and Ianto.

ReplyDeleteI have no evidence of this though.

I'm just hoping that they don't concentrate solely on the US ratings if/when considering another season for the show.
ReplyDeleteBut then you have the problem of people wanting to discuss straight after watching. It's kindof a no win situation.
