Anyone think it's slightly unfair for a British show to be shown in america before Britain? I can't remember a time where the UK had supernatural or most american shows before it was aired in the US. I'd say it should be on at the same day at least. That way it would be more fair.
I've brought this up before. A day or two would be fine but a whole week is just ridiculous, I wouldn't be surprised if the BBCs viewing figures for this were much lower than usual for Torchwood.
I think it's only similar in the way that it's a continuous story over a number of episodes, like CofE, whereas previously Torchwood had different stories each episode.
Loving Torchwood. Miss the old cast tho from BBC. Yes, I know they died but...something is so missing from the American version. I want the old Captain Jack back! I will watch the show. Just want to know when the real Torchwood shows up? I am hoping sooner than later.
It is no longer just a British show, Starz own a bigger chunk of it now and rightfully it airs in America first. But look at this as a good thing. Since it is on a paid cable network they numbers expected for success aren't as big as it would be on say basic cable and the numbers from the BBC just being icing on the cake. If anything this deal only makes chances for another season better. As a fan of the show thats all you should really be worried about.
I agree that a lot of fans seem to be downloading and watching the Starz version illegally. But the viewing figures won't really reflect that due to none of those fans actually being one of the people who have the viewing box on their TV.
Overnight figures aren't that great, but with IPlayer and time shifts it's settling 6 - 6.5 million. This comfortable puts it in the Top 10 shows of the week, Ep 2 I believe was 7th overall iirc.
The biggest problem with waiting 6 days to show it here is that they are kinda forcing their biggest fans to watch it illegally. If they didn't then they would only be spoilt so much off twitter/forums that they would have to cease all social activity on line. Unfortunately, us online uber fans only make up a handful of viewers over all so being the BBC they have to go with what's best for the show with the majority, and that just happens to be a Thurs night :(
I know quite a few people who rarely watch things online but with the delay being so much with TW, they're kinda feeling forced to because of the risk of spoilers online and wanting to discuss the episodes with people on sites like this.
I think that the BBC just fit it in when they had a gap but they could release it on iPlayer earlier to save people watching it illegally and affecting the viewing figures for the BBC airing (although some people are no doubt watching twice!).
Here's a question though. Illegal downloads are usually an issue due to lost profits, but we've already paid for TW via our license fees and BBC doesn't have adverts. So is it really illegal for us to watch something that we've technically already paid for?
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
hope we get answers soon

ReplyDeleteIt's a show set in the U.S. and mostly financed by a U.S. company.
ReplyDeleteI think this serie is prety similar to children of earth
ReplyDeleteEh, as long as it's getting made, I couldn't care less where it airs first.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's similar in the slightest - which is a good thing.
