Spoiler TV: The Best TV Show Competition 2011 - R3 - Day 27 - Fringe vs. Veronica Mars & Buffy vs. Game Of Thrones
11 Jul 2011
Cancelled Shows Game of Thrones SpoilerTV Article TV Show CompHey Guys,
Yesterday was a brutal slog for a place in the Quarter Finals... and we have to say goodbye to both 24 and LOST in a day that is sure to damage many peoples hopes that one of STV's golden oldies could spring a surprise... As is to be expected, the current shows have such a strong active fan-base that it's hard to beat them when finished shows are beginning to pick up dust, and both 24 and LOST fell victim to that. Of course, take nothing away from NCIS and The Vampire Diaries who both made it into the Quarter Finals and a poll which on paper you would expect would be heading towards The Vampire Diaries after a massive 1,600+ votes that managed to squeeze out a LOST comeback over the second half of the day...
Today sees sci-fi phenomenon Fringe challenging the very popular drama Veronica Mars in the first poll for a place in the third Quarter Final as well as Vampire smash-hit Buffy taking on the new and critically acclaimed fantasy drama Game Of Thrones. Both should be tough to call, and by tomorrow night we will know six of our final eight shows in the STV Show Competition!
The rules for, for anyone new to the competition are very simple. There will be new sets of shows against each other every day in a new set of polls... simply vote for your favourite and the show with the most votes will win that days poll and head into the next round.
Don't forget to spread the word, and tweet out the competition to friends as well as facebook liking the post...
Also if you are taking part in the prediction competition, don't forget to follow your scores HERE Long time leader Sergey Sevostianov had his biggest day to date, maintaining a 100% record in R3 and pulling a huge nine points clear from second placed Yvonne Damon with 72 points to 63. Sadly, long time strong competitor Dahne has sunk from second to 8th after a disastrous day on 59 points.
All that's left to say, is good luck to every show...
... and let the battles begin!

I voted for
ReplyDeleteVoted for Fringe and Buffy.
ReplyDeleteThese are getting hard.
ReplyDeleteThis is an odd poll day for me.... Buffy and Veronica Mars are two series I can watch again and again, or just catch random episodes on TV and enjoy it every time.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet I voted for FRINGE and Game of Thrones because I feel they are MUCH higher quality series overall.
next round going to be killer for me.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural vs Chuck:(
I guess for the time being Buffy in Veronica Mars\o/
Fringe vs Veronica Mars?
ReplyDeleteBuffy vs Game of Thrones?
Stop this madness in the name of your king!
But seriously, I'm going to need some time to think about this.
ReplyDeletehaha I willing to bit my house in my kids Supernatural finally going down.
ReplyDeleteSorry you know its all about Chuck.
No Fringe for me never got into the show.
Always had a soft spot for Buffy so she got my vote.
Tough choices but I went for Fringe and Buffy...
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones is much higher quality but...Buffy was with me for years! Ugh such a hard choice.
ReplyDeleteI almost had my mind made up for GoT and then I decided to watch my favorite Whedonverse video to be sure...Now I don't know again. This may come down to a coin flip for me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id1vVYkiXJY
Full Spoilers for Buffy, Angel, Firefly.
OH! I got aDwD tonight. Maybe it is a sign? lol
ReplyDeleteAn omen as plain as a red comet in the sky!
ReplyDeleteFringe & Buffy.
ReplyDeleteThough, I loved all four for once. :/
Well I suppose now that the last couple of rounds have ruined my bracket I can finally vote for the shows I love. xD Veronica Mars and Buffy.
ReplyDeleteVeronica Mars and Buffy for me today. I've seen two seasons each of VM and Fringe and I enjoyed Veronica Mars better. That might change when I watch Fringe season 3, but for now I'm voting what I know. Buffy is the second best show still in the running for me. It won't do anything for my bracket, but I hope it makes it into the next round.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Veronica Mars and Game of Thrones.
ReplyDeleteDidnt vote in the first poll cause I've never watched either show.
ReplyDeleteAnd Buffy in the second cause it's one of my favourite shows :).
None of these shows are even in my bracket anymore, which just shows how wrong I got it :S
I think I'll need a few more days to vomit after "The Vampire Diaries" beat LOST yesterday. What a fucking joke.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, some great match-ups today, I love all four shows. I picked Fringe over Veronica Mars. Both great, but Fringe is LOST's spiritual successor in my mind. I'm just glad it's not up against some mindless show.
Buffy and Game of Thrones is a tough choice, but I was pleased to see Buffy's huge lead when I voted for her. Buffy was a great show that held up its greatness for seven years, not to mention the television GOLD it gave us with episodes like "Hush" and "Once More, with Feeling."
You may call this blasphemy, but with network shows, Fringe is better than Supernatural now. Season three is amazing. Even a die-hard Supernatural fan has to admit it's slowly getting into recycle mode, whereas Fringe just gets more and more creative every season.
ReplyDeleteOMG Buffy vs. GoT? Have you NO heart? *sigh* I went with my Lady Love, since she taught me first what it was to crack-wise in the face of danger (sorry Tyrion/Jamie).
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Fringe, but I have seen Veronica Mars, so... guess how that went.
ReplyDeleteAnd Buffy. Always.I actually think I'll root for Buffy now, seeing as every other show I think actually is 'Best TV Show' material has been pummeled. :(
Fringe without a question, but the second poll was hard for me ;( I absolutely loved GoT first season, but Buffy was the first show I purchased all seasons on dvd, the first show I tried not to miss a single episode, the first show I searched the internet for news , spoilers and all.... so I had to go with Buffy! There is only one show which would get my vote against Buffy and that`s Supernatural! ^^
ReplyDelete"I haven't seen Fringe, but I have seen Veronica Mars, so... guess how that went."
ReplyDeleteI'd like to guess you abstained from voting, because how can you be the judge of the better of two shows when you admit you haven't even seen one of them? But, I''m going to guess that's not what happened.
It's easy for me today Fringe and Buffy
ReplyDeleteYour guess would be correct. Though, I should revise my comment... I haven't seen Fringe since I gave
ReplyDeleteup after the snoozefest that was the first two episodes. I actually
wanted to like it because it's J.J. Abrams, but I just didn't.
But does it really matter? I think it's safe to say that this competition isn't about quality (come on, The Vampire Diaries beating LOST and Breaking Bad?). It's about your shows winning.
These are easy polls for me:
ReplyDeleteVoted Veronica Mars for the first one, because I absolutely loved it, but could never get into Fringe.
And Buffy is the show that got me into all of this (this whole general genre of these TV shows), so that show got got my vote.
Fringe, and then a slightly tough one, as I love GoT S1... But BtVS is in a class by itself for me... so score one for the Buffster for me...
ReplyDeleteI'm going for Fringe and Buffy. Two of my favourite shows of all time!
ReplyDeleteI doubt every person who voted actually always knew both of the shows =) and I don't think there's anything bad about it. Even if you know only one of the shows, but you're sure it deserves a vote, then why not vote for it?
ReplyDeleteThere've been so many different shows included in this poll. I actually think it's rather difficult to really know all of them.
(Granted, though, most people say they've at least watched a couple of episodes of the shows for the polls they were actually voting. But still.)
There is no arguing, you're exactly right. I really wish this would be called a "Favorite TV Show" and not "Best TV Show."
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you should give Fringe another chance. The first season is a bit wobbly on how it should "be," but the first season finale and resulting second and third seasons are really great television. It's my current favorite network show (Breaking Bad and Dexter being my favorites overall).
Explain to me how you can be "sure" a show is better than one you've never seen. Seriously, I'm very curious.
ReplyDeleteFringe & Game of Thrones! Two amazing shows!
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones was incredible, but right now I put it in the same category as Firefly. Both are AMAZING, almost unparalleled in their genre. I'll wait until I see Game of Thrones' second season to see if it can pull off being a really amazing show. (Which, I hope it can!)
ReplyDeleteAnd agreed, I'd love for for Fringe to win, though by "win" we mean "get second place after Supernatural."
Wow, tough choices today. Veronica Mars for the first poll.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do love GoT but Buffy has been a huge part of my life for many years and has had a huge impact on me so there's no way I can vote against it.
I probably will eventually, I tend to give shows second and third chances, but I don't like watching a show if I haven't seen every episode from the beginning, so it wont happen until I get a hold of the DVDs and the free time to catch up.
ReplyDelete(Dexter is awesome.)
I gave up on Fringe after the first five episodes. It was just awful.
ReplyDeleteWent back to it after seeing good reviews and haven't looked back. It really did grow into must-see-tv.
Fringe is like the definition of a first season that's best viewed with no delays between episodes. It has both kickass "monster of the week" and "mythology" episodes, but it isn't till the... second third... of the season that it really ramps it up and you can't fucking wait for the next episode start.
ReplyDeleteAnd trust me, once you hit mid-season two, you'll be glad you won't have to wait week-to-week like I did!
By default, the one you have seen is instantly better than the one you haven't, because there's no comparison.
ReplyDeleteIt's not exactly an informed decision but this isn't a Presidential election either.
Exactly. It had a great pilot but kind of floundered until after the first season mid-hiatus, and came back a fucking powerhouse, and the second and third seasons have been amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt really found its feet in the second season. It figured out what kind of show it wanted to be.
ReplyDeleteAnother argument as to why networks need to give shows breathing room before cancelling them. Sometimes they do grow into their own.
By your argument, if the first pizza you ever eat gives you food poisoning and you throw up for days, it's better than the best gourmet pizza on the planet, because you've never had that one. Haha.
ReplyDeleteActually, yes, that's right. Though, it's not really my argument, just what is.
ReplyDeleteParks and Recreation is another great example of a show needing a little time to figure itself out.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen that one.
ReplyDeleteBut I'd throw Torchwood into the mix. Started off horribly and, with Children of Earth, grew into one of the most forward thinking science-fiction shows airing today (and in some time).
Ah. I can see what you're getting at. It's the best pizza to you because it's the ONLY pizza to you.
ReplyDeleteMy point is... There is other pizza out there, More delicious pizza.
I've been dying to give Torchwood a looking, but I'm not the type to just buy a DVD series on faith.
ReplyDeleteEvery show should put their first 2-4 episodes on Hulu or Netflix instant!
I'd definitely recommend Children of Earth (season three). It's a little depressing towards the end but it's a great piece of TV.
ReplyDeleteAnd the new season is looking to be equally as good.
Yeah, definitely. That's actually why I try to watch almost everything that premieres... even if it looks like garbage, just so I'll know if that pizza is the better show or whether it'll give me show poisoning.
ReplyDeleteWait... the analogy is confusing me now.
Haha.
ReplyDeleteof course that I choosen Buffy , this is GREAT AND THE BEST TV SHOW !!!!
ReplyDeleteFringe and Buffy. Haven´t started watching Game of Thrones yet, even though I hear it is great. Sorry VM, but Fringe is simply the best TV show, and as I mentioned in another comment I had issues with Veronica Mars last season.
ReplyDeletePretty easy for me tonight...
ReplyDeleteVeronica Mars for the first one.It was a great show and it gets my vote if only for the dialogues!
Also, surprisingly,I never managed to get into Fringe, even though it seemed to be my kind of thing..
And,Game of Thrones!
Finished the first season a few days ago..Amazing!
That's not to say that I didn't like Buffy(I've seen four seasons)..It simply was one of these shows that I was too young to see when it was airing and then I didn't have the patience to finish it..I probably will at some point..
Veronica Mars and Buffy!
ReplyDeleteI disagree about game of thrones. I still think buffy has a lot over it. But GoT is new but its not better yet.
ReplyDeleteI want fringe to win it this year, i think overall it has been the best improved show and has had the strongest story to tell this year. I wudnt mind buffy winning it on a long shot though
I'm sorry for Veronica Mars but I voted for Fringe... and Buffy
ReplyDeleteVoted for Fringe and Buffy..
ReplyDeleteEasy for me, Veronica Mars and Buffy. I would like for the final to be The Vampire Diaries vs Buffy.
ReplyDeleteFringe.
ReplyDeleteFringe and Game of Thrones for me!!! :D
ReplyDeletehmmm that was hard....buffy a classic or game of throne which is sooo good...chose buffy just because it was already a fave....but wanted to choose both,
ReplyDelete= fringe
Game of Thrones all the way! I tell you, it might get eliminated this time, but give the show a couple more seasons and it will kick everyone's ass on this site ;) it's just... it's difficult for 10 episodes to compete with numerous seasons of other shows.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think about that, but, yes, probably in 1 or 2 years, it wins!! :D
ReplyDeleteWell Fringe was a no-brainer. Buffy vs Game of Thrones though... I voted Game of Thrones because it's an edgier story at the end of the day. And much less predictable. There are very few shows I would vore above Buffy though.
ReplyDeleteAll 4 are great, but went with Fringe and Buffy.
ReplyDeleteThis is true. And that's exactly how I watched the first season. The pilot and the next few episodes were just OK. Then it started to pick up (once they got rid of that boyfriend, actually). By the season finale it was excellent, and season 2 amazed. So, bigtrickedoutnametag, give it another try.
ReplyDeleteFringe and Buffy.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like this is kick-ass blondes day, and there's a little whiny blonde too (Joffrey).
As much as I love Game of Thrones, I had to vote for Buffy, even if I think Game of Thrones was easily the best new drama of the season. Maybe in a year or two, if GoT keeps being awesome (and I have no doubt it will), it would be a different story, but now, Buffy deserves to win.
As for Fringe vs Veronica Mars, my allegiance goes to Fringe. I've just seen half of the first season of Veronica Mars and while I liked what I've seen, Fringe has proven to be extremely addictive and creative over the past 3 years, and last season was like the definition of perfection.
I love how you two started using the pizza as an example XDD
ReplyDeleteAnd let me use the example you chose with the pizza that made you sick.
If there would be a poll in which you could vote for either the pizza that made you sick or another one you never tried, there's two possibilities: you will either not vote at all, or for the one you never tried, 'cause it's GOT to be better than the one that made you so terribly sick.
And now change the bad pizza to a very very VERY delicious pizza. Even if you never ate another one, if there is a poll between the pizza you know and one you never tried, most people would probably vote for that very very delicious pizza. Because it's SO delicious, even if it might objectively speaking not be the best in the world, it sure does deserve a vote.
And that's what people do in these polls quite a lot. I've seen people comment on voting for a show they don't know because they hated the one it was up against. And then there's people who vote for the show they know 'cause they liked it very very much, even though they don't know the show it is up against.
I'm not saying everyone's doing it. But some.
I myself have never voted "against" a show, so to speak, but sometimes voted for one when I didn't know the other. And then at times I didn't vote at all, even if I know one of the shows, but if I think it's just an "ok" show, then I won't vote because then it'd be more about "how many people know this show" instead of "how many people like this show".
Of course, it might seem unfair at times. But that's just how these polls work. Always.
And also, it's not the oscars or anything. It's not like we get to watch some submitted episodes before making a decision. It's not like most of the people here look at it "professionaly" and really just judge by quality and not by preferences.
Anyways, I hope the extended example about the bad or very very good only pizza you ever ate is somehow making sense.
Fringe and Buffy for me.
ReplyDeleteYay! Go Buffy! For me there is no competition, Buffy it's one of the best shows of all time.
ReplyDeleteAlso voted for Fringe.
I'm similarly torn here: I voted for Fringe for the sheer quality of it (especially recently), but all I want to do now is watch Veronica Mars for sheer twisty emotional hit.
ReplyDeleteBuffy and GoT: too close to pick... Buffy is epic, but Game of Thrones is so well produced.
I think even if Game of Thrones stays as good as it has been, it won't come close to Buffy. If it improves dramatically perhaps it will. But its brilliance is somewhat derivative: it is a reasonably faithful adaptation of truly great source material, whereas Buffy was brilliant original material.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Veronica Mars over Fringe. I love both and own both on DVD (VM) or Blu-ray (Fringe), but the writing on Veronica Mars was just whip smart, and the stories from the first two seasons surpass anything Fringe has done to date. Unfortunately the CW mandated changes that really hurt Veronica Mars in Season Three (like having only short narrative arcs), but those first two seasons were brilliant.
I love all four shows in the final four. Assuming that Game of Thrones remains at least as good as it has been so far, I would rank them as follows:
Buffy
Game of Thrones
Veronica Mars
Fringe
I cant believe Buffy its beating GoT. I saw All Buffy since it started waayy back in the 90s and seriously it doesnt deserve being against GoT
ReplyDeleteFringe of course and GoT.Fringe is best sci fi show on TV now and Got is the best new show.GoT is outstanding and only after one season is much better then Buffy.
ReplyDeleteBut this year show competition results are so funny that i thing Games have no chance to win in this poll like it happened with Lost and 24 yesterday.
This diehard fan of both shows knows that the difference is 3 seasons. You expect a semi-procedural scifi show like Fringe to maintain 100% new stuff in season 6? I certainly don't. If you compare 2 shows to each other, at least have the mind to think about them season to season. Supernatural hit it's peak in season 4.
ReplyDeleteDexter IS awesome.
ReplyDeleteCan I just say I REALLY dislike this poll!? 4 of my favorites all against each other?
ReplyDeleteUGH...
While Fringe might have added an astounding season 3 to the mix, the first 2 seasons of Veronica Mars are my 2 favorite seasons of tv back-to-back. (Barely beating out seasons 1-2 of Damages, seasons 2-3 of Dexter, and seasons 3-4 of Supernatural) I just can't vote against my Veronica. Even if it means voting against what has to be the best ensemble on network tv in the last 6 years...
In the other poll, I just can't even choose.
I voted for Fringe and Game of Thrones
ReplyDeleteTough call... as all of these four are some of my all-time favourite TV shows! In the end I had to give it to Buffy though, I hope that show wins :) it's the most iconic, classic show of all time. In the other poll it was close, but I gave my vote to Fringe. VM season 3 sucked, and Fringe is only getting better.
ReplyDeleteFringe vs. Veronica Mars.. two greats shows but thre's no how to compare them. I voted for Fringe because I thinks it's the best show on TV in a long time and my favorite one.
ReplyDeleteSurprised how much less votes the Fringe/VM poll has... thought that would have been bigger. Guess Fringe fans are on holiday atm :P
ReplyDeleteIn regards to this... you really can't use that rationale when deciding which show is better.
ReplyDeleteYou can't "guess" that Fringe will go downhill in three seasons, like some other shows have, you can only evaluate it as it is - and compare it to other things as they are, regardless of how many seasons they have/have had.
I'm surprised how close it is. I thought Fringe would run away with this one.
ReplyDeleteThis whole competition has been full of surprises. Who'd have thought neither Lost nor X-Files would make it to at least the Quarter Finals? xD
ReplyDeleteReally? The entire Buffy catalog doesn't deserve to be up against GoT?
ReplyDelete-Innocence
-Passion
-Becoming(Part 1 and 2)
-Hush
-The Body
-Once More, with Feeling
-Seeing Red(the whole arc up to Grave)
-Conversations with Dead People
-Lies My Parents Told Me
-Chosen
I think all of those episodes stand up to the current episodes of Game of Thrones. I didn't even include the light, fun episodes that are still really good but harder to compare to GoT,
Well, when these polls a competition of sorts, people will ultimately vote for the shows they have picked in the brackets, regardless of if they've seen them or not.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that's really unfair to any of the shows... it's the nature of competition. People will want their brackets to be right.
If there was no competition, there might be more "honest" voting.
I haven't seen season 3 of Fringe but for me this season of Supernatural was a reboot it needed. Things got too "epic" in season 5 so I am enjoying this Supernatural reboot. I understand it wasn't to everyone's taste but Supernatural continues to surprise me with its creativity and twists. I can't wait to see what happens next year because there are so many ways they can go with MegaloCas.
ReplyDeleteIf you like Buffy, you should try Veronica Mars. The shows themselves are nothing alike, but Veronica has the same strength of spirit Buffy had and the same wry wit and cultural references. They both also have an overarching plot for the season as well as standalone episodes. I was encouraged to try Veronica Mars last year and I'm glad I did.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that Hush was TV gold. Not so much Once More.. The idea was phenomenal but the execution had issues. Plus, it sparked the idea that other shows should have a musical episode too. Not good. I still wince at much of the singing on Once More. Many actors should stick to what they do best.
ReplyDeleteAgree with that.
ReplyDeleteThough, not really the actors' fault. If there's a musical episode, they gotta sing.
I was nodding until the last four episodes.
ReplyDeleteI would substitute all of this for "The Gift" easy.
Ha! If that's the case, I back the slayer. And would love to see an actual battle between them.
ReplyDeleteOnce More, with Feeling was a fantastic episode. It was so light and fluffy that you often forget how much serious crap they're dealing with in that episode.
ReplyDeleteThe Dark Willow arc, I thought, was one of the best. Fighting a friend is a lot harder than facing something evil.
Conversations with Dead People is one of my personal favorite episodes. It's where shit got real and it is the first time I really thought that what they were up against was truly 'evil'.
Lies My Parents Told Me was mostly chosen for the acting in the episode. I enjoyed it but I thought that the acting surpassed the story.
Chosen was the finale. Had to include it lol. It was a solid episode that tied everything up very nicely. The hallway scene with the original scoobies was enough for inclusion but there is much more meat to this episode.
While the end of "The Gift" was great I didn't think the first ~30 minutes were particularly outstanding. Good, don't get me wrong, but not great.
Not true for all of us. I frequently vote against my bracket. In fact, I campaigned the hardest for a show that would have broken it and stated that a show sucked I had going into the final four. The most important thing here is not the bracket but getting new people to watch good shows, especially if they are current ones that suffer in ratings. Think of how many people tried new shows after the competitions last year. Some of them continue to watch those shows today.
ReplyDeleteThe Gift should definitely make the list, but Becoming 1 & 2 are still the TV episodes I compare all other episodes to. And none of them ever quite measure up.
ReplyDeleteActually, it's the "serious crap" in OMWF episode I mostly disliked. A lot of the season was bogged down by the doom and gloom and they neglected to find the right balance (as they had in previous seasons).
ReplyDeleteThe Dark Willow arc could've been awesome. But, like I said, it was one depressed girl fighting another depressed girl, moaning to her depressed little sister, who had a crush on a depressed guy.
Cw/DP is okay. I wouldn't rate it above other episodes though. Definitely not above The Gift.
Lies My Parents Told Me... can't even really remember that episode all too well. And even though I've probably watched Season 7 over 20 times now, I can't really remember much good about that season.
Chosen... was just awful, to me. It was rushed and it was convenient. I would have loved for that episode to be a two-parter, so they could properly explore everything. Instead of having Slayers easily defeating the Turok Hans, when Buffy almost died just trying to kill one, etc etc.
Thinking about it, Season 3 has most of my favourite episodes. Seasons 2/3 were when Buffy was one amazing episode after another. Season 5 was also pretty great.
I try to forget most of S4, 6, and 7.
Oh, I know it's not true for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI predicted LOST to lose although I hoped otherwise...
ReplyDeleteChuck has surprised me the most this competition....
Veronica Mars and Buffy :)
ReplyDeleteI don't watch either of the other shows, though I am planning to start watching Fringe.
Anyway, Buffy is my 2nd favorite show ever, right after Supernatural.
And some people might also get reminded of old shows they used to like but haven't seen in years and start rewatching them again ... *raising an arm here*
ReplyDeleteAnd about the brackets ... I don't even have any XDD So I neither care about my nor anybody else's brackets *gg*
(And to be honest, voting for a show just 'cause kicking out the show that it's up against is good for one's bracket even if you don't know any of the shows... that's what I don't get. Not saying you're doing it. But I imagine some are.)
And even without this competition within the competition ('cause that's what this bracket thing is), people don't vote "honest" all of the time (if by "honest" you mean voting only if you can really compare both shows on a poll and voting objectively).
Oh, and I don't think it's unfair as well. The way of voting I described. But I still understand if others think it is.
100th Comment So Listen Up....
ReplyDeleteVOTE BUFFY
VOTE BUFFY
VOTE BUFFY
Best Show EVER !
I thought LOST could lose to TVD too, but I did not expect it exactly....
ReplyDeleteChuck has been the big surprise for me too. I thought Castle would beat it and X-Files.
The only thing that could shock me more would be if Game of Thrones beat Buffy. I'd be happy, but shocked!
Fringe and Buffy. (Voting is starting to get more difficult now.)
ReplyDeleteGame Of Thrones is going to have to get a few more completed seasons under its belt before I consider voting against Buffy.
For me personally, Hush was the greatest of all of the episodes. And it is also the best among any other show I've seen so far. And it's not even because the story is so amazing or whatever. But just the whole atmosphere of that episode and the way it was shot and everything. It's just amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd about what this post was mainly about: GoT had one Season so far. Buffy ended after 7. I'm not saying people cannot think that GoT is better just because Buffy had so many seasons. But ... Well, MurderMondays kinda put it well by simply giving examples, but saying that all of Buffy doesn't deserve to be up against GoT is kinda weird.
After all, all of these shows were voted into these polls by all of us. And then those with less voters get voted off and then again and again and again. But it's always us. No one planned for Buffy and GoT to be up against each other, but that's not the point. Saying they don't deserve being up against GoT still seems wrong.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm just sad to read comments like these, because every single show that has been on this poll and still is deserves to be on it because it obviously had enough people voting for it. And this has nothing to do with a personal opinion. It's about what the majority of the voters thing. And if the majority got whatever show into this poll and then voted for it again and again and again, then it sure does deserve to still be on the poll as does every show it will be up against.
I couldn't Agree More I Loved Every Episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Nothing can Compare!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you earlier with the pizza analogy. I have no problem voting against a show if I think it was horrible. I would have voted against LOST if it wasn't running against VD. I also have no problem with people voting for a show they think is good even if they haven't seen the other one. To only be able to vote in matches where you have seen a significant amount of episodes of both shows would dramatically lessen the number of people participating in this contest and thus make it less fun. It would also defeat the purpose since the real reason the contest runs is to drive summer traffic to SPTV during the TV dry spell.
ReplyDeleteAbout Chosen, Whedon really did want to make it a two-parter, but the network refused to give it to him, so he was forced to rush it. And he stated multiple times that he would choose telling a better story over continuity. I may not like or agree with how super "feminist" he is, but at least he was up front over some of the issues people had with his storytelling.
ReplyDeleteI actually appreciate how some of the singing is subpar. It's not like how some shows do musical episodes which are just totally fanciful. The characters are aware that what they're doing is not natural, and they're just people, not singers. I love how Spike winces when he realizes he's starting to sing, and quits the last number.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, it's personally my favorite episode, though I think a lot of that has to do with my professional curiosity in pre-production.
Right... I said Fringe is better than Supernatural "now." I'm not sure what you're point is, as I'm not comparing a hypothetical season six of Fringe to season six of Supernatural, nor a past season of Supernatural to a current season of Fringe.
ReplyDeleteAs they currently stand, regardless of the time they've been on the air, Fringe is a better show
I actually love Whedon but sometimes he takes his eye off the ball (especially around that time, when he was off doing other things).
ReplyDeleteBut the network didn't not give him a two-parter. They just wouldn't allow the finale to be two hours. He knew that a while before the finale and so could have altered the episodes to accomodate a two-parter... but that didn't happen.
I do appreciate that sometimes a better story should be priority... but I personally don't think that's the case with the final season of Buffy. It felt like both quality and continuity was being thrown out the window.
As a whole, I still think the last couple of seasons are better than most things on TV - they just weren't up to the standard previous seasons had set.
SMG is back on the CW now so what's the chance they'll be able to pull her over to the TVD set for a guest spot? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure who has bigger expectations for Ringer - the CW or me. Cannot wait to see it. I hope that it will be the starting point of a new, more grownup view of the CW. CW shows suffer from the CW's reputation and I hope this will springboard into people trying other shows too. Here's hoping Ringer does not suck so to speak, or else Buffy will needed in both shows.
ReplyDelete...What I meant is to simply compare season 3 of SPN to season 3 of Fringe (which I think would really still be hard for me to say as I love both of their season 3s...) but that's just how I would look at it. Yes, lately Fringe has been better than Supernatural NOW...but I guess I don't see it that way when dealing with shows in different stages in their arcs.
ReplyDeleteThey both also have Charisma Carpenter and Alyson Hannigan. :D
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has big expectations because Sarah's finally returning to TV. Makes me think there has to be something special about this show that managed to draw her back. I hope so too, I mean they've got Nikita and I'd consider that more grown up but everyone still associates the CW with teen shows. However the good side is that they don't expect ratings to be quite as high as the other network shows.
ReplyDeleteI just compare shows as a whole. Whether they're brand new or a decade old. The show as an entirety.
ReplyDeleteThough I understand what you're saying.
I would love to see that^^ I do like Vampire Diaries, but Buffy would so kick their asses
ReplyDeleteBuffy better?? I dont think so? the last season was also creepy
ReplyDeleteFringe and Buffy for me. Yesterday pretty much slaughtered my bracket, but today is looking a bit brighter.
ReplyDeleteStill in the midst of my first Buffy watch. I'm at episode 5 in season 5, so I haven't yet watched some of these that have been listed. But Hush was great TV, and Becoming was gripping, and I'm sure shocking back in the days before LOST, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood. Passion reminded us that this is not just another high-school kids coming of age story. I actually saw Once More with Feeling when it aired, because there was a lot of publicity around it. I liked it but of course did not know what was going on having not seen any of the show before
ReplyDeleteThe thing to remember is this is the show that started it all. Vampires, monsters, fantasy. Today's TV owes a lot to Buffy.
Voted Fringe and Buffy because I love Fringe and Buffy, and I believe they are examples of high-quality TV. I saw an episode of Games of Thrones and didn't care for it, but this community is giving it such high praise that I will give it another chance when I can. However, Buffy was excellent and groundbreaking, and held up that standard for many seasons.
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones is my biggest shock but Chuck would be next.
ReplyDeleteSorry to leave two comments. Thought I had deleted one of them.
ReplyDeleteBuffy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBuffy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSurprised the Buffy vs GoT poll got more votes than Lost vs TVD.
ReplyDeleteBuffy has no business beating GoT. And although Fringe is winning (won), the poll shouldn't have been nearly that close.
ReplyDeleteBuffy was one of the greatest shows ever. Whedon's definitive work. Game Of Thrones is the most overrated TV show since...well, since Glee. It's basically a bunch of Lord Of The Rings fanatics running around crying out "this is my land!" "no it's MY land" "meh let's just have sex.". Can't stand it....
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! Impressive showing for GoT. I love Buffy to death, but I look forward to seeing what happens next year after GoT has had its second season.
ReplyDeleteI no longer have a horse in this race.
ReplyDeleteI take that back. . . Firefly might get through another round.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Fringe .
