Hi ! Today's second poll and final poll of the week is about a small show, I'm not sure anyone has heard about it on SpoilerTV, it's called Fringe.

It's a sci-fi drama series starring Anna Torv as FBI agent Olivia Dunham and it airs on FOX since September 2008. After a first season airing on Tuesdays, a second season airing on Thursdays and a third season landing on Fridays, the show's fourth season will premiere on Friday, September 23rd at 9pm, in exactly 2 months.

  1. Season 3, hands down. Season 3 not only was the best season of Fringe by far, but it was also the best drama on network television imo, and some of the best sci-fi TV I've ever seen.

In season 1, the show was a mystery/fantastic drama with bits of a blur mythology here and there (Olivia's special, Walter has done some terrible things in his past), and I enjoyed it but I wasn't exactly hooked. But the first season's cliffhanger changed everything. It really allowed Fringe to dive into a much more exciting sci-fi universe, with more complex and mythology-filled storylines as time goes by. At that point, we could have never imagined the depth the mythology would eventually get. Season 2 showed us that transformation, focusing on the past with Olivia's childhood, Peter's destiny and Walter's emotional mistake that changed everything, it really gave some great background to each of these characters who are more complex and special that we thought they were. And then season 3 arrived : a season almost serialized in which every single episode matters even if it doesn't look like it at first. The cases of the week are not really cases of the week, there's always not as important as what happens to the main protagonists, and their stories are always related, it's not just random investigations with no consequences like some standalones in the previous two seasons. In season 3, I was constantly fascinated and intrigued, and glad to see such a smart, complex show on network television. Unlike after the cliffhanger ending season 2, this time I have no idea what they will do in season 4, but one thing's for sure, I will be in the front row seats to find that out next September.

  2. Liked S1, loved S2, hated S3

So season 3 it be :)

  3. Season 3, although I think I enjoyed season 2 almost as much. Certain episodes of this show just shake me to the core...

  4. I agree! Season 3 for sure! I watched Season 1, but wasn't really wowed until the season finale, seeing the alternate New York! Then in Season 2, two part finale, finding out Bolivia has taken Olivia's place... Woah! But this past finale... The two teams from each world are brought together... and Peter... "never existed!"  That's going to be a fun one for the writer's to explain!

  5. Season 3 all the way. Which is surprising because I didn't think they could top S2.

    ReplyDelete
  6. S2 just because there's a number of things that make me :| about S3 much as I love the rest but S2 was just my favorite. BUT the prettiest season was s1. There must be something about it being the one filmed in NYC that made it feel brighter or something. I can't explain it. They're all wonderful and the show has gotten better each season but hey it's my fave, doesn't mean I'm telling you it's your fave. Actually, my favorite episode is in season 1. Bad Dreams is my personal fave, too.

  7. I voted season 3 because it was dynamite BUT i do love all seasons equally! Season 1 introduced tv to the AMAZING world of Fringe. Season 2 deepend the over arcing storyline and expanded the mythology ....and season 3 ...well that was the season where all the actors got to really stretch themselves in the acting department. It also happened to have some amazing episodes. We even got an animated ep....which was mind blowing ....both literally and figuratively! LSD is my all time fav Fringe ep!!!!

  8. Season 3 amazing!! "Unleashed" (1.18) and "Unearthed" (2.?) should have been unDONE, they were not good. Season 2 was good too.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Loved 1 and 3 a ton but season 2 was just overall the best in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  10. You should have had a 4th option: ALL
I voted for S3 but love them all. Just started watching over again.

  11. I like how season 3 ended, but I hated all the drama and I hate serial TV.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I like all seasons of Fringe but #3 was straight-up badass.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Season 1.  I hated the way season 2 ended and I tried to give Season 3 a chance but felt like the show lost it's science theme and turned into a soap opera.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "... and I hate serial TV."I don't think I've ever seen (or heard) anyone admit that before.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Season 2. It had a shaky start, but even the lesser episodes were solid. Then once it found its groove it just flew. I liked season 3, but never adjusted to the alternate universe, the added characters, or Fauxlivia while the original team was split or at odds. Stick in a couple of messy and/or disappointing plot points and it docked down what was admittedly a good direction for the show - a more serialized format.

  16. I've liked all 3 seasons, but when I didn't think that they could top S2, S3 knocked it out of the park for me. So, since that line of thought worked before.... I don't think that they can top S3.... :)

  17. One of the easiest polls I have ever taken.
Season 1 was interesting and new, but meandered around story-wise. Season 2 was better and introduced more serial plot arcs, but it was still finding itself and seemed to be hanging onto its MOW history.

Season 3 Fringe finally found an identity and a cadence to its storytelling. The season's story arc was near perfect from episode 3.01 to the finale. They found a way to integrate the MOW stories into the overall myth arc and everything seemed to flow better.

Season 1 and 2 were fun TV, but Season 3 was epic and one of the best seasons on TV  this decade.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Imagine not liking the best series on TV because they are serial? Horrific!

Take any critics top 10 list of the best shows of the decade (or last decade for that matter) and probably 60% or more would be serialized shows.

I think Pfizer needs to look into a cure for antiserialia....

    ReplyDelete
  19. none this show is terrible never could get into fringe i think the show is overrated

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought the same about smallville

    ReplyDelete
  21. Season 2 for me. although, One of the best episodes were from season 3, Entrada, Firefly, the day we died.....

    ReplyDelete
  22. Season 3! This show is one of the few shows that get better and better. Can´t wait for season 4!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I chose season 3, despite my favorite episode is in season 2, "Over There", which in my opinion, this is the best episode (not just on Fringe, The best episode I've ever seen).

    ReplyDelete
  24. The third Of course. I can't even think of one episode I didn't like. I liked the season 1. I became a fan of the show with the season 2 but the season 3. The acting of Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and John Noble was the greatest. A lot of mind fuck by Jeff and Joel. Beautiful scenes with Peter and Olivia, and the Bishop Boys. It was a perfect season.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Season 2 just for its amazing second half. Season 3 was also amazing and while season 1 had a bit of a rough start, it was really great as well.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My favorite season was season 3 I think it was the most complicated and interesting one , there was a lot of suspense and Anna Torv was extroardinary playing two opposite characters =D
But I loved all the seasons and I really can't wait to see season 4 !!!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  27. If I had the option, I'd pin together the second half of S2 and the first half of S3.  A fantastic ride from "Jacksonville" to "The Firefly" with hardly a misstep.  But choosing one season as a whole, I'd pick 2 over 3, and 1 is far behind.  I've said before that if I'd started watching in S1, I'd probably have quit, because the pseudo-science was just too preposterous and the mythology was visible only in glimpses.  S2 had some MOTWs that didn't seem to contribute, but matching them against S3 post-Firefly, 2 comes out ahead in my book.

  28. You have to know I spent the better part of the last decade steeped in the depths of TV production. I probably missed any serialized shows deemed people. I don't like having to play catch up. I have no problem with missing Lost entirely.

I still work in TV. As I am prone to falling to sleep early, my best bet is to watch a new show instead of something established.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Season 3! It's just been so mind blowing! I cannot wait to see what the writers bring to us in season 4!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Really tough. I went back and forth between 2 and 3, finally chose 3.

    ReplyDelete
  31. No explanation  needed honestly. Some people just don't like serial dramas or can't commit the time. With that schedule I understand completely!  I can't fault you for ignoring established series if you don;t have the time.....

There are a few series on my "best" list I came in late or waited until they were finished completely because I knew I had missed most the first year and did not want to play catch up until a later date.

One of the great things about this era, so easy to catch up on completed series or past seasons with DVD,iTunes, Hulu etc. Even so, it takes a fair amount of time to do that and not everyone has enough to catch up on past seasons or series.....

  32. Season 3 !! It was one of best season on Televesion... a Masterpiece !

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd reply but I don't wanna get banned :P

    ReplyDelete
  34. They were all good, First half of season three was amazing, but fauxlivia getting preggo and the Bellivia thing did not work for me. But its Fringe mostly everything about it is pretty much awesome so tough choice.

    ReplyDelete
  35. i picked season 3 but if i had my way it would be all of them that is how much i love this show =)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Unleashed had an awesome monster. Should NOT be undone. :O

    ReplyDelete
  37. Just stick to CSI then. It's like Fringe without the serialization. Or the drama. Or the letters F R I N G E, and any semblance of a reason to continue to watch next week.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I completely agree. Every character on this show is a BAMF.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You are right because midnight was 1.18 I think

    ReplyDelete
  40. Season 1 got me hooked on the show. I had trouble with a couple episodes, but overall, it was a total blast.

Season 2 almost lost me between Dream logic and Grey matters. I was this close to stop watching. Thank god for Jacksonville, which is my all time favorite. And the finale was totally awesome.

Season 3 had me on the edge of my seat up until The Firefly, after that, i really started to worry. Too much melodrama, not enough focus on the war. Loved Bloodline (yeah i'm weird) and the last two.

Bottom line:  I have to say Season 1

    ReplyDelete
  41. I loved them all but if I have to pick I'll go with Season 3.  I feel Season 1 and 2 struggled to balanced the MOTW with the mythology but in season 3 they nailed it.  The acting was incredible in season 3, the storyline was really incredible, and the finale was mind-blowing.  I can't wait to see where they will take season 4.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ummm...Season 3 is the best overall but the majority of my favourite episodes come from the other 2 seasons. I went with season 3.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i agree. i think s2 is the best balanced season. the build up to the finale was great, with all the excitement of going further into the mythology. but it still had a great dynamic between the characters, which, imo, was a bit wrecked in the second half of s3 with the awkward peter/olivia moments. and i miss the fbi feel to the show that was still present in s2.

i feel like in s3 the show evolved a great deal because it fully embraced its mythology, and the storytelling was amazing because it introduced a whole new perspective with the altverse, but it's also the season which has the most contrived plots, imo. they took a very difficult turn plot wise this season and for the most part it worked out, but there are some twists that don't match the quality of the overall story telling.

    ReplyDelete
  44. one of the things that bothers me about s3 is precisely the fact that our team was never the same it had been! the team and how they interact with each other is one of the best things of the show, and the switch completely rocked the boat in that sense in s3.

    ReplyDelete
  45. i agree with everything you said except i did like s1. it has some very compelling story archs (eg jones or the beginning of the cortexiphan story line) and some good standalones (better than in s2, i think).  but yes, from jacksonville to the firefly it's fringe at its best (except for marionette... i  know everybody loves that episode and anna torv did shine, but the MOTW was waaaaay too disturbing for me!!!).

    ReplyDelete
  46. Although I thought season 3 was amazing, I felt that it kind of deviated from the way Fringe was filmed in the past. I loved the alternate universe, but it got too much away from the MOTW stories which I think add a lot to the show. I also think that had something to do with the ratings decline. But nonetheless, amazing all around.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Season 3>>>>>Season 2>>>>>Season 1. Like that. I love them all though.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Love them all but deffo season 3 is the best

    ReplyDelete
  49. I remember watching the first episode when it aired- thought it was pretty cool, tuned in for the next one- totally forgot about watching it after that. last month I tried watching it again, I only watched it to begin with for Josh Jackson/Peter, but I didn't much care for it and I got mid-season 2. Now I spoiled myself with all this alternate universe stuff/Peter doesn't exist. Peter was always my favorite character- yes, I know he's coming back. But I didn't think they utalized him much in season 2.

/wonders if I should keep watching. I really don't care much for Olivia.

  50. Definitely season 3, it was full of drama, action, character development and gave us some of the most epic episodes ever. A very good season even among other series.

  51. Season 3 wins! Any chance of a Favourite Season of The Mentalist poll coming up?

  53. Season 3 rocks!!! It finally gave me boost that I've been waiting to see from a show since LOST ended!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Definitely Season 3 for me. I loved the back and forth between the worlds. And what the eff was up with that finale?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Season 3. No doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Definitely Season 3, it was just awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  57. There is only one word to describe season 3 of Fringe: EPIC!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Voted season 3 over season 2 because of the amazing finale. But I loved them almost equally

    ReplyDelete
  59. I don't need even think about it. Season three of Fringe is one of the best things I've ever seen on tv.

    ReplyDelete
