How I Met Your Mother - Craig Thomas Says Season 8 Possibly Shows Last

This is really bad news, Catherine Lawson posted today on AOLTV:

So, after six seasons we still don't know who is the mother of Ted's kids, but now we do know that all will be revealed before the end of 'How I Met Your Mother' Season 8.

Creator and executive producer Craig Thomas told 'TV Guide' that the upcoming Season 7 will offer answers and even more changes for the 'HIMYM' gang. He also let slip that there will (probably) be only two more seasons left for the comedy.

  1. This actually isn't bad news at all. It's good. And they quoted an article from March, so WTF.

I think everyone's fine with season eight being the final one.

  2. I hate when producers say things like prob 2 more season. The TV business goes in 12 or 22/24 episode increments. They should considerate on this season coming not making predictions that they will be back for a eighth season. The only show that I know is safe is Big Bang as they got 3 season pick up.

  3. How I Met Your Mother got a 2 season pick-up. It's guaranteed for an 8th season, barring some shocking circumstance arising.

  5. That's good news to set an end date.  Hopefully they can show Barney's wedding at the end of Season 7 and we'll meet the mother then too, so we get Season 8 to see Ted and her relationship develop.

  6. I think it's good news too. The show is already started to downslide and having the end ate will give them a chance to tighten up the scripts and have a real direction....

  7. It's not bad news. I'll be glad if they can end it on a high note.

  8. Not bad news after all. I guess a lot of people are fine with the show ending after season 8. Season 4 and 5 were definitely not their greatest, season 6 was much better, I just hope they reach that level of awesomeness which the first 3 seasons were on. (and I would really like to know who the mother is and I'm starting to get a little annoyed at times... =P)

  10. I always expected we would meet the mother, but not know it.

Then in the final episode, as Bob Saget told his kids a story... a woman would walk in and interrupt him. That would be the mother and we will have seen her on the series before.

She will say something like "Oh just tell them how we met already..."The final episode would start and show how they actually met.

I never expected to see the mother in much of the series... at least not see how and know it was her.

  11. Yeah sure, but I would like to know the mother a bit better before they end the show, why would we have all been watching all these years, when the conclusion is only one episode... introduce the mother around s08e10 and show the viewers why Ted loves this woman enough... (but for all we know, we already know the mother)

  12. Not really spoilery considering they were renewed for 2 more seasons around this time last year...

  13. I don't think it's bad news, actually I think it's good news. Having an end date set in stone it's always a good thing for a tv show.

  15. darq, it could be Nora, but it kinda doesn't make sense.

  16. I think the timing is right, it's gone off the boil anyway, and at least this way they can work it towards a satsfying ending and not string the audience along too much more.

  17. i believe this is the right thing to do! They have a plan for 5-6 seasons in their mind, so I am assured that the last two seasons are going to be...you know what... Legendary!!!

  18. Thought here. I don't think that Barney's marrying Robin. Cuz, in the final episode of season 6 we see Lily calling for Ted. "The groom needs you" Now, wouldn't Lily be a little busy with Robin if it was Robin who Barney was marrying? I mean, I can't think of a more nervous bride then Robin actually. So Lily would have to be with her all the time.
