Thanks to Bruce_F for the heads up.

The studio has said, No Thanks. Universal has passed on going forward with the project, dealing a huge blow in the plan for Ron Howard to direct Akiva Goldsman's script, with Brian Grazer, Goldsman and the autor producing and Javier Bardem starring as gunslinger Roland Deschain. Now, the filmmakers will have to find a new backer of what might well be the most ambitious movie project since Bob Shaye allowed Peter Jackson to shoot three installments of The Lord of the Rings back to back.

  2. I love Stephen, but I've never read the Dark Tower books. They've never really interested in.

Now I'm just waiting for the IT remake and the Pet Semetery remake and the potential Stand remake and the Under The Dome mini-series.

  3. Pet Cemetery was awesome. As for IT, I hear it's pretty good and a little freaky but I never got the chance to enjoy it. I rented it at Blockbuster on VHS and the idiot who rented it put the first tape in the second tapes box and Blockbuster never put the tapes in the right box. So of course, I was an idiot, too, by not making sure I was watching the first part first so I ended up watching the end of the movie first. So ruined it for me!

  4. It sucks but I understand. This project is going to be extremely difficult to execute. On the other hand, if it is executed properly they just made a huge mistake.

  6. Many folks just got disappointed.  I think the Dark Tower fans are the tightest fandom Stephen King has.  I like the idea of a Dark Tower movie series a whole lot better than The Stand.  The first Stand is already fabulous.  No need to remake it.

  7. IT was a horrible movie with even worse special effects.  I was completely disappointed in it.  I guess that's partly because IT was my favorite book for well over a decade - a social commentary stuck inside a brilliant horror story.  I would be happier if they remade this one than any other Stephen King book, but only if they give it it's due and keep the social commentary in it.

  9. Such a shame, I love The Dark Towers, it's one of the best series of books ever. This series/movies project sounds awesome, but it needs to be done perfectly, otherwise it will shut down in the first season.

  11. You know, as much as I like the series, I'm glad it isn't happening. There's no way this wouldn't have turned out to be a disaster.

I hope WB will pick it up, it will be a huge success... but it takes money and risks with it.
RON is such a good film make....

  13. I'm honestly happy about it. I don't think any adaption can do the books justice.
