Thanks to Emily for the heads up.
Though "The Vampire Diaries" writers are already hard at work on Season 3, the cast members don't have to report to the Atlanta set until early July. In the meantime, they're having plenty of adventures -- trips to London and glamorous nights out at Hollywood awards shows -- which mean that we're getting the occasional morsel of info about the show's highly anticipated return.
Of course, it's important to note that even the cast members are in the dark about major plot details of Season 3, so they've been spending their summer speculating just like we have! Here are the cast members' best guesses as to what will transpire when the show returns. (By the way, The CW won't confirm it, but it's looking like Sept 8 is the most likely return date -- so clear your schedules, kids.)
Tyler and Caroline are soooo Romeo and Juliet. We saw some tension brewing between Mayor Carol Lockwood and Sheriff Liz Forbes in the Season 2 finale, and word has it that the bad blood will lead to a full-on feud in Season 3... leaving Tyler and Caroline's burgeoning romance hanging in the balance! Candice Accola told HollywoodLife that Caroline "has a very comfortable chemistry with Tyler. She can just sit there and be a mess and be completely comfortable." We can't wait to see the relationship between these two develop. (Just make out already!)
What about Matt? It's no secret that we looooove Matt Donovan around these parts, so our fingers are crossed that our favorite busboy will get plenty of story in Season 3. We're hoping he and Caroline aren't done for good, but he's got other things on his mind at the moment. He's still grieving for his sister after learning new details about her death, so the fact that Jeremy can see Vicki (Kayla Ewell) now may help give Matt some closure. Ewell confirms to TVGuide that Vicki will deal with "unfinished business with my brother, my boyfriend, my ex boyfriend, with so many people. I'm coming back with a vengeance. It's going to get crazy."
Jeremy and Bonnie may persevere, even with dead girlfriends haunting him. Steven R. McQueen tells AOL that the arrival of Vicki and Anna in Jeremy's subconscious may mess with Jeremy's head a bit, but he doesn't think it signals trouble for Jeremy's relationship with his still-alive girlfriend, Bonnie. "I don't know if the whole seeing dead people thing will affect that [relationship]... I don't see them pulling apart at any time soon, I see things hopefully growing stronger."
The Originals return! On Monday, June 6, Joseph Morgan officially signed on as a series regular for this season, promising lots of villainous goodness as he and Stefan continue their ripper road trip. Meanwhile, Klaus's Original siblings linger in their coffins, where a simple pull of a dagger could wake them up. We can expect to see at least some of these brothers and sisters this season, in flashbacks and present-day scenes. Hopefully, that will include Elijah (Daniel Gillies). We can't imagine the show without him at that point.
Are we missing anyone? Just kidding; we could never forget those Salvatore brothers. Damon and Elena shared their first mutually consensual kiss in the Season 2 finale, but Elena may still be focused on Stefan (who is currently off being all intriguing and murdery) when Season 3 breaks. Nina Dobrev thinks that Elena was interested in Damon because she wanted what she couldn't have... but now the tables have turned. "Now that Stefan is gone Elena will want what she can't have," she tells TV Guide. "She'll miss him and wonder if he's ok, and I think it will make their relationship stronger."
We have our doubts about that! Sure, she'll probably miss the guy... but when she finds out that he's chowing down on women instead of squirrels, we're thinking she may have a change of heart. (Plus, like Paul Wesley, we're hoping it'll take Stefan a while to return to his true blue ways.)

Crud. I saw this yesterday and it didn't dawn on me to submit it to the site. I guess I dropped the ball on this one.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I guess the big news here is that Joseph Morgan will be a series regular next season and Daniel Gillies isn't. I wish it was the other way around.
I hope that doesn't mean Elijah is going to spend half the season in a coffin, he quickly became one of my favourite characters last season. More Klaus is a good thing though, I can't wait to see him wreaking havoc with evil Stefan!
ReplyDeletethat was clear from the press release, and they were considering making Daniel Gillies a regular maybe hw will show up a few episodes in as a regular?
ReplyDeleteI hope you're right. In any case, being a "series regular" is a contract thing. It could very well be that Daniel Gillies will be on the show enough that he'll seem like a regular anyway. This sort of thing happens more and more often these days. It's more of a money issue than anything else.
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteI hope they soon find the coffins and release all the Originals to let them go on a hunt to kill Klaus =P
ReplyDeleteyayy tylerr and caroline! i hopee they get togetherr!
ReplyDelete+ it would be nice if Bonnie gets less vulnerable (no more nosebleeds) so that she can actually protect people and do lots of magic without fainting!
ReplyDeleteWeren't all the coffins in that big shipping container behind Klaus in the scene where he had Stefan kill the girl in the finale?
ReplyDeleteYeah they were, but Damon and the rest do not know this... so they would still have to find out where they are, since I am guessing that Stefan won't be able to slip this information to them without Klaus finding out about it.
ReplyDeleteIn Bonnie's defense, that only happened when she was doing the most dangerous spells that put her life at risk. I'd say that the normal use of her gifts won't be so physically harmful.
ReplyDeleteFair point, but do Damon and co even care about where the originals bodies are? Elijah was the one who wanted to know, and unless the family are brought back (which considering he's carrying them around in coffins, I doubt Klaus is planning to do so) then there's not much reason for Damon and co to worry about them. As I recall there's still no way to get rid of them (all of them anyway) for good.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but if they want Stefan back and I am guessing the only way to do so is to release the Originals to get their revenge on Klaus, they must be very unhappy with their hybrid son/brother. + by removing all the daggers, they have the weapons to kill them again.
ReplyDeleteShe was also bleeding from the nose when she was getting the message to Elena when Rose and Trevor kidnapped her. And I have to say, the spells she has done so far without her getting in trouble is finding a book on a bookshelf, not very impressive.
ReplyDeleteWell, as I said, that was earlier in the season. By the end of season 2 that only happened during the dangerous stuff.
ReplyDeleteTrue, I guess what I was meant to say, hope that that part is now over and that she full control over her powers and gets to do some crazy stuff besides turning water into fire etc.
ReplyDeleteOMG I am so in love with this show. And I'm now a hard core Delena and Forwood shipper I can't for Tyler and Caroline to be the star crossed lovers of mystic falls it'll be awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteNina and Plec are both so dead set against the Elena/Damon relationship and I have to say that I'm glad for it; perhaps this means that the writers will take a hint and finally make Damon get over Elena and become fun again, because this lopsided love triangle has worn out its welcome for me (doubt it'll change, sadly, but a person can hope). If I bother to watch next season, I'm hoping for more from the Damon/Alaric bromance. Also, more Elijah (Klaus is boring, one-dimensional and cliche, so I'm pretty much over him already). I'd love for Rose to come back, too, but that won't happen either. Ah, oh well.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm the only person who doesn't give a rat's ass about Matt. Half the time I forget he even exists.I guess I'm the only person who doesn't give a rat's ass about Matt. Half the time I forget he even exists.
I don't care too much about Matt either I think it's because he doesn't understand Caroline and some of the things he says makes me flinch I wouldn't want him as BF. Tyler's much better. :)
ReplyDeletethe show needs a regular villian, so even though elijah is a great character, he is considered "not evil", klaus as an indestructable hybrid will make for a good evil presence, with the originals-including elijah-, damon, and elena trying to stop him. besides, whats great about elijah is that he appears in limited important moments, that makes u want more of him. if he was a regular, u will eventually get tired of him.
ReplyDeleteon a very different subject, i think merideth will show up next season and will be alarics love interest.
Me to. Joseph and Daniel.
ReplyDeleteBoth great actors. And I love Joseph (he is so great), but I really hate Klaus.
I hope, someone frees the other originals, so they can tear him to pieces.

I wouldn’t call Elijah “not evil”. He would kill everyone, without hesitating.
ReplyDeleteBut he is a man of his word. Klaus is not.
And, he is not as evil as Klaus.
You know what? I never hated a villain in Buffy (not even Glory or the First). But Klaus …
Maybe I’m getting old.
You are clearly my type!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope, someone will soon release the other originals, so they can together hunt Klaus down and tear him to little pieces.
Hope, we’ll get to see everything of it!!! Get the popcorn!
Magic is not a cute game. Every witch has limited powers. Limited energy, she can use.
ReplyDeleteMore she uses it, more dangerous it gets for her.
Remember? She took in the power of hundreds of witches. Technically, her powers had no limits. But using them all, would have killed her.
Honey, if Elena and Damon will come together (which I hope), and Stefan returns in a bad mood (because of all the human blood), the fun just begins.
ReplyDeleteAbout Matt. I liked him and Caroline. They were cute. But he lost lots of points in my book by leaving her.
At the beginning I hoped, they would come back together. Now, I don’t care. I mean, it would be nice, but Caroline is now strong enough to go on without him.
And if you hope for Caroline and Tyler … I’m not so sure, she has this kind of feelings for him. No doubt, they are close. But I think, she feels for him as a friend or brother. But hey: things change.
I have to admit that for the past two seasons I have been hoping that Bonnie would die, since she became annoying with her her "those vampires ruin my life" attitude. I just hope she becomes this powerful witch, other people will be afraid of, like Dr. Martin, that was one scary warlock!
ReplyDeleteIt's not that I dislike Matt. I'm just indifferent to him.
ReplyDeleteWell, sweet cheeks, if that's the kind of fun you're looking for then I have absolutely no doubts that you'll get lots of it next season. But I was referring to the personality of Damon, not the drama with relationships. He was a fun character once.
ReplyDeleteI'm with that actress on this one; in the end these events will most likely conspire to strengthen the Elena/Stefan dynamic. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm rooting for those two, as I find the Elena/Stefan relationship bland and don't really give a damn about them because of their blandness, but I don't think it will ever truly end in the way that the Elena/Damon fans are looking for.
I never said I disliked Matt, nor did I say anything about Tyler and/or Caroline. I was referring to Matt the character, not Matt the love interest. I find him uninteresting. When he isn't featured in an episode, or barely seen in an arc, I never once wonder where he is. Which, really, is the kind of character that should be axed from a show, the one that doesn't seem to really serve a purpose (well, unless one considers his part in the whole Caroline/Tyler/Matt thing a purpose; I want more from my characters, however). The writers should give him one or cut him loose. And about Tyler/Caroline? I can't say whether I prefer them as just friends or as something more at this point, though I think that the writers are clearly setting them up for "more".
"Vampires ruin my life"? Good one.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree. That was annoying. I'm glad that changed.
Dr. Martin? Never liked him. Luke was better. He listened. His father
didn't.
Didn't like Dr. Martin at all, but he was scary and people were seriously afraid of the man, would be cool to see people/creatures etc. to be just as a afraid of Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteHe was a psycho in the beginning. But yes, more fun.
ReplyDeleteStefan/Elena end, how Elena/Damon fans want it? You mean, she would break up
with Stefan to be with Damon? You're right. It won't.
Elena loves Stefan. She loves Damon too, but she loves Stefan more. She
would never break up with him. Not even for Damon.
But the fact, that she loves Stefan more, doesn't mean, she can't be with
Damon, while Stefan is gone. That's what I meant.
Well, Matt may not be a mayor character, but I like him. As character.
His Mom gone, his dad gone (or dead, or whatever). He and his sister had to
grow up fast. They learned to take care of themselves very fast. That's what
I like about him.
Even 30 years old people can't properly take care of themselves. And he is
just 17 or 18.
He is a strong person.
Afraid of Bonnie?
ReplyDeleteI like it!
Well, Damon and Stefan already learned to back off.
Even Klaus feared her. One of my favorite scenes.
Yeah so let her keep that up! Everyone should be afraid =P
ReplyDeleteWell, I of course don't mean me personally (I'm no Elena/Damon fan), but I suspect that most Damon/Elena fans would love her to be with just Damon exclusively, yes.
ReplyDeleteYou see, I don't think Elena would do that. I don't think she'd be with both of them at once like her counterpart would/did, which is what it would be, I suppose, since she never ended it with Stefan (and to me, her love for Damon is... Well, I would say "friendship" but I don't know if I would categorize their relationship as such; I guess I'll just say that I see Elena's love for Damon as "not romantic" at this point). And having Damon constantly in love with her when the feelings are not reciprocated is irksome; it's run its course and now I'm sick of it being repeated ad nauseam. Like I said, I prefer fun, badass Damon, not love struck and pining Damon.
I'd be thrilled if Damon took a nice, long break from the Elena/Stefan/Damon triangle and went on his way separately for some time. Maybe he can take his bro Alaric with him and they can go have some awesome adventures. Hell, I even dug the whole Damon/Alaric/Jeremy dynamic, too, for those few episodes last season, so maybe the kid can join them as well.
Love more originals, though I really wish that Elijah has a significant role later in the season, he's become a temptation.
ReplyDeleteStelena! <3 Thanks Nina for saying Elena ain't fickle at all.
Bonnie.. awww.. hot witch with feisty 'tude - talk about sexy. Love to see more of her family, and her home. Hopefully Damon will introduce us to both, when he goes to her for help.
Jere has got a Hot Witch gf, plus hot vampire ghosty exgirlfriends.. I mean, how lucky can a 17yr old boy get? ;) can't wait to see what happens there.
You make it sound like her suffering is an inconvience to them. Btw, when has she not protected people? The question is, when have they protected her?
ReplyDeleteBonnie put down one of the originals, for a 17yr old novice on her own, learning an ancient language and power without her Grams or any mentor to teach her.. are you kidding me?
ReplyDeleteShe's freakin' awesome!! Notice none of the crew could have done any plan without her? Not impressive.. ha.
EXACTLY! She does the spells they demand, but is left with the consequences. Even Grams warned her about going to far with them.
ReplyDeleteWhen Grams and her were in the tomb, it took both of them to open it and save the Salvatores. It killed her grams. In Masquerade, she put up the spell herself... then released it. Girl keeps knocking my socks off.
Damon killed her grandmother!! Hello? He also ripped out her throat, snapped Jeremys neck, mindraped Elena.. do we need a list to how much ruined her caused? John said it too. "You know you ruined her life, don't you?"
ReplyDeleteHer stand against cruelty and killing, against anyone who'd hurt the innocent and those she loves is heroic. Not annoying.
Only fans with narrow minds are annoying.
actually klaus is a man of his word too, he never broke a promise so far, he provided a cure for damon and reunited elijah with his family. it is true that he used a loophole to keep his word and get what he wants at the same time, but elijah did the same thing with trevor and rose, rose asked him io her it again that he will pardon them, and elijah simply said, u have my word that i will pardon YOU, and by you he meant rose only, rose was naive enough not to ask him to elaborate and elijah kept his word by pardoning her..but of course trevor lost his head.
ReplyDeleteit is natural to hate klaus, but he will be a villian for a while, he will ruin stefan, cause trouble for damon and elena, and kill many innocents.so there would be something wrong with u if u didnt hate him..as for buffy's villians, they were more comical, thats y its easy not to hate them, buffy episodes have alot of dark humor.
ReplyDeletethey still have leftover from klaus's blood, bonnie can do a tracking spell.
ReplyDeleteif by fun character u mean snapping necks and pulling out hearts, then no, i dont want that damon to come back. the way i see it is damon slowly became damaged after what happened with his brother and katherine and him becoming a vampire, that he lost his way, he forgot what its like to be human, so he decided to embrace being a vampire, a predator. his fun, humorous side was there to mask his damaged soul and guilty conscience.
ReplyDeleteupon meeting elena, the identical version of katherine, but with opposite personality, his mask started to crumble, and slowly started to gather the pieces of his lost humanity, and in that process he did things that hurt his brother and elena. elena is a big part of that change. it is true that he pursued her for a while, but then he decided to confess his feelings to her and let her go in 2x08. he didnt pursue her anymore, he loves her and wants to simply be around her and watch her live. he already moved on.
but then in the finale we finally got to know that elena understood him more than anyone, and cared for him a lot more than she let on. when he was dying they shared their first genuine real conversation, where he let his walls down, and she let hers. he he thoroughly asked her forgiveness, and she forgave him. he acknowledged the fact she will always love stefan, but had to explicitly let her know how he feels before he dies. then she admitted that she had feelings for him, and kissed him, he didnt ask for it, and his sweat was dripping from his face, y did she do it? that will be explored next season.
so damon doesnt love elena because she looks like katherine, sure the resemblance drew him in, but her caring personality and understanding made him feel human, the thing he misses more than anything in the world, and he is already over elena in the sense that he is not pursuing her anymore, but he sett;ed for loving her from a distance, knowing that shes alive and well. that is what makes damon such a great character.
and u need to realize that stefan did a very heroic yet selfish thing, true he sacrificed his humanity for his brother, but he also sacrificed a life with elena, and will now serve klaus to kill more innocents and whatever klaus wants him for. elena definitely wont just get with damon, but will get to see who damon really is. so roles will be reversed. and elena will be atleast bothered by "badass ripper stefan" and the fact he chose his brother over himself and elena.
ReplyDeletei believe that next season we will finally see damons feelings explicitly reciprocated, and damon doing everything he can to save stefan from klaus, after all they love each other and their bond is stronger than any other bond, even their bond with elena.
Klaus gave Katerina the cure because he never believed she would actually
ReplyDeletegive it to Damon. I was shocked, when she did. I mean, It’s Katerina we’re
talking about.
And as for Elijah … Well, Elijah is not stupid (well, obviously he is).
Remember when Elena said, he promised her to keep her family and friends
safe. But he was carefully with his words and sad nothing about saving her?
Elijah is careful with words. He things before he speaks and probably
listens to what others say. And I don’t think, Elijah was stupid enough to
believe, that Klaus said he would reunite him with the others, and believed,
he would tell him where there are and let them go. Klaus must have said
something else to him.
Unless, of course, Elijah was so desperate to see the others again, that he
believed what he wanted to believe. But in that case he was very stupid. I
mean, Klaus spend centuries to hunt the others down and kill them. Did
Elijah really believe Klaus would spear him? Letting him and the others go?
Why? Because he finally got, what he wanted?
Elijah stood up for Katerina (I think 1492?). For Klaus that is betrayal.
Yes, Matt has problems...but so does EVERYONE else on the show. It doesn't give him an excuse to treat people, especially Caroline so poorly. He was a HORRIBLE boyfriend to Caroline...always nitpicking her faults and making comments like "I came to see if this week's basket case period has expired." and yelling at her for being jealous when another girl was clearly hitting on him. I used to like their relationship wayyy back in early Season 1, but then I just got tired of how he always treated her as a shoddy replacement for Elena. Then he goes and conspires with her mom. Caroline needs to stay away from him. He reduces her to a weak, silly little girl and not the confident, kickass vampire she is supposed to be now. She needs to be around people who lift her up and make her feel good...like Tyler.
ReplyDeleteI'd settle for grateful and caring. Nice start.
ReplyDeleteYes, Matt has problems like everyone else. And I just said that he and his
ReplyDeletesister had to grow up and grow strong quickly. I never said that his
problems are an excuse to treat other people like he treated Caroline in the
end.
At first I was shocked, when he told Liz and lied to Caroline. But when he
saved her and Tyler, I hoped they could be together. But then he dumped her
like: “Oh, I’m sorry, I can’t deal with you being a vampire. I have too much
on my neck right now. See you later.”
Hey Elena had problems. Her parents dead, Jeremy out of control, Jenna not
knowing what she was doing (as parent). And when she found out about Stefan
she was shocked. She was scared. Who could blame her? But she accepted it
and she and Stefan came back together.
But Matt? Well, I thing, breaking up with the person you love (vampire,
human, wolf, witch …) won’t solve any problems (except, the problem is the
person itself, which does not work for Caroline), it makes is harder. It’s
easier to deal with problems, if you have someone you can rely on.
And as for Caroline and Tyler ... I’m not sure, it will happen. There is no
doubt that they have feelings for each other. Deep feelings. But I don’t
think they are romantic. Not on her side. Tyler tried to hit on her, kiss
her. So his feeling for her were romantic. But she loved him like a friend
or brother.
But hey feelings can change. Maybe she can now fall in love with him. I
think, what hold her beck in the beginning was, that she was still in love
with Matt. And we shouldn’t forget, producers promised trouble between the
Forbes and the Lockwoods. The moms wouldn’t be happy with a relationship
between a vampire and a werewolf.
Soooo … We can just wait and drink tea (or you prefer coffee) till S3 starts
and we see how it goes on.
dont read too much into it..in the end its just a show written by writers to provide a living for them, the actors, crew, and network. they have to create conflicts to keep viewers like u and me interested. and like any other show, it has alot of inconsistencies that i could keep listing for hours.
ReplyDeleteWhere did I ever say that Elena will just be "LOL Stefan's back! I don't care what he did!". No, of course she'll care. But will she be hypocritical about him leaving, after she spent the majority of last season trying to sacrifice herself to save the ones *she* loves? Selfish of her, just like Stefan's choice? Of course Elena will see more sides of Damon and less parts of the past Stefan she knew. But I only hope Damon won't be Elena's bitch, ending with her leaving him behind to tend to broken!Stefan once he returns. See my point?
ReplyDeleteI'd like Damon to stay badass and snarky. I'm not saying he has to go around killing innocent people and can never evolve as a character, having emotional turmoil to fight through, but that cooler side of his personality is a part of him and I want it to resurface, as well. Shit. He had some hilariously awesome one-liners. Quotable kinds.
Eh. I'm all for brotherly bonding. But the whole triangle makes it difficult.
if what u want is funny snarky damon, in moderation, then u have nothing to worry about, because he was still that way even in season 2. but it will tone down a little in my opinion in season 3. not because of what happened with him and elena in 2x22, but because of the situation stefan is going through to ensure his survival. after all his brother is with klaus, so season 3 will be darker and there will be less funny snarky damon situations. but hey, lets wait and see ^_^
ReplyDeletei dont want to reply the same way i did before, from reading ur post u obviously want stefan to be with elena and want them to end up together, so i wont mention damon and elena anymore.
ReplyDeletebut i will post certain remarks:
1. half of ur post is about damon not being over elena. which is something i already know yet u r still arguing with me about it. i said he moved on from pursuing her, stopped trying to aquire he, chasing after her, flirting with her. but he never stopped loving her, wanting her emotionally-physically is subjective, and is a matter of opinion, ie, u can argue andie and i could argue him turning down katherine when he couldve pretended its elena, or compeling elena, sleeping with her and then making her forget..
but its the emotion that he wants, but he stopped working for it. that doesnt mean he is over her. we were already on the same page on that fact. but ur still arguing that.
2. damon having andie is not to replace her with elena, or to have a romantic connection. its to have an emotional outlet, a therapist so to speak, and as a fresh blood bag, and a lacky to do his dirty work.
"No, I don't see Stefan as being jealous of Damon; Stefan's relationship
with Elena has been pretty sound and secure for almost two seasons now. I
see it as Stefan being annoyed with Damon over not being able to get
over the fact that Elena does not reciprocate."
3. what u typed up there is what showed me ur obsession with stefan and elena, but specifically stefan, the fact that u denied stefan being jealous in that scene makes our whole argument fruitless. ask any neutral party about that scene, or about 1x22 scene with elena and stefan after saving damon. they will tell u "jealous" ask PLEC herself or keep digging in her interviews, im sure u will find the phrase "stefans jealousy".so i will stop right here on the matter of stefan, elena, damon romance.
4.as for damons obssession with saving elena bein unyielding and dangerous, i disagree. he was logical in that nobody has today except one, bonnie, who was already willing to. so instead of tyler, caroline, and elena-possibly- dying. bonnie can simply die instead. so if i had to argue, even though we both know that there would be no show if that happened lool :). elenas obsession with bonnie is dangerous and unyielding, since shes putting 3 lives on the line to save 1--and stefans obsession with getting a cure for damon is also dangerous and unyielding because he didnt care if that innocent girl he killed, and many to come- lived or died. and left elena behind. we can go on and on about how ur love for someone can be dangerous and deadly.
anyways at the end of the day, nothing u say or i say, will change the main course and ending this show is going to take. the creators already know the bigger picture, the endgame. they r just forging the path as they make their way there.
so i will simply agree to disagree.
