HBO has cast Dev Patel in the Aaron Sorkin drama More as This Story Develops. He joins an impressive ensemble featuring Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Sam Waterston and Olivia Munn. The series centers on a cable news network — Patel is a series regular as a young man who works at the channel.

  1. This is pretty cool, be good to see him back on TV.

  2. So, I'm ashamed to say that I have never watched The West Wing, but last night, I watched the first 3 episodes of Studio 60 and was completely enthralled. I've heard a lot of people rave about its awesomeness on SpoilerTV, but now I'm pretty psyched to get into West Wing as well as a new show by Sorkin. It looks like it's getting itself a great cast too!

  3. Studio 60 was fun.  It didn't deserve most of the criticism heaped on it during its short run.

  4. I was very surprised to see that it had received such heavy criticism part way through. Did the show suddenly get much worse? For now, only 3 episodes in, the writing, acting, and editing have been brilliant.

On that note, how was The West Wing after S4? I spoiled myself a little by reading that both Sorkin and his director left the series for S5 and on. I initially wanted to watch TWW for the express purpose of getting to S6/S7 and seeing Alan Alda. Are the latter seasons less awesome, even with Alda?

  5. Studio 60 never had the lazer-like focus of West Wing and I think that's where some of the criticism came from, as unfair as it was.

I liked the WW episodes after Jimmy Smits got involved and Alan Alda was really good.  If you were to watch mainly to see him then you won't be disappointed.  In the final seasons, it's the subplots involving the supporting characters that are underwhelming.

  6. So it was kind of meta-criticism? People expected more of Sorkin since WW was s good that, as good as Studio 60 seems to be, they couldn't get past it not being WW?

And I'm glad to hear that about Alda. If I were to call any actor or celebrity my hero, it would be him.

  7. No problem.  You really hit the nail on the head about the WW / Studio 60 criticism too.

  8. The West Wing is the best written TV series in the history of television, and best ensemble cast ever. There have been more groundbreaking series, and series with a single character stealing the show, but Aaron Sorkin is a genius. Studio 60 was unfortunate to come out along with 30 Rock, same idea, one was brillantly funny. I'm beyond excited to have another series (hopefully, this is just a pilot currently) and on HBO so the censors can suck it!

  9. with the exception of Olivia Munn I love the line up, and good for Dev Petal that he was finally able to land another job, especially after all the complaining he went on about involving his inability to find work in Hollywood. Guess what Dev? Welcome to the real world, welcome to Hollywood!
