Misfits' executive producer Murray Ferguson has confirmed that there are talks about remaking the show in the US.
Howard Overman, who created the hit superhero drama, has previously admitted that he was unsure about making an American adaptation.
However, Ferguson has now told reporters at the Monte Carlo Television Festival that it is a possibility.
"There has been interest in America about making an American version," he said. "We so far haven't made any decisions on that.
"We're obviously interested but if we do do that we want to make sure that we retain all the essential, key ingredients of the show that make it successful over here while recognising that if it's for an American audience it might have to be slightly different culturally."
Ferguson added: "We are going to go and talk next month in LA to a couple of key people that we think would be good partners and who are very keen to do it with us. Hopefully it will work out. I'm optimistic - we'll see."
Ferguson also revealed that he is not concerned about the precedent set by the US remake of Skins, which was recently dropped after one season.
"I think Skins had very specific issues in America which relate to that show and not to ours," he said. "I think we just have to be aware of the cultural differences and make sure we can make a show that we're happy with."
Meanwhile, Ferguson revealed that the original British version of Misfits will soon be airing on the US streaming website Hulu and described the news as an "exciting development".
The third series of Misfits is currently being filmed and will air in the UK later this year.

I don't really see why they have to do this. However, if this does happen and I'm happy with whoever they cast, I might check this out.
ReplyDeleteI can see the American remake of Prime Suspect taking off massively. But this? I can see it going the way of Skins US and countless other remakes. But I'll watch it anyway, give it a chance, because whatever I think, It could turn out to be another one of the remakes that gets done really well.
ReplyDeleteThe US version of Skins was so watered down compared to the original. Unless they put it on HBO or something a remake of Misfits will probably be just as awful.
ReplyDeleteI'm not even sure what US network would do this? doesn't really fit on any channel tbh
ReplyDeleteI don't get why US networks always feel the need to remake great British shows.
ReplyDeleteSame here, plus this US remake will be tared with the "Heroes" brush, whereas it's a totally different approach
ReplyDeleteAnd the thing about Misfits is that the characters, the setting, it's all so British - I can't see how they could Americanize it without drastically changing what people love about the original show.
ReplyDeleteI don't know which network would take this, it would have to be something on cable, and it's not going to be USA, I think HBO and AMC would pass as well, leaving Showtime, TNT and FX but my guess would be Starz, leading me to not watch it
ReplyDelete$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
ReplyDeleteIsn't it kind of obvious that US remakes tend to suck? I mean, US Skins was canceled...
ReplyDeleteRe the poll, people just can't get over Nathan can they :P XD
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is up with all the american remakes of British shows??? -.-
ReplyDeleteYou saw how it went with Skins, so WHY make the same mistake again?
Misfits is an awesome BRITISH show, and the thought of making it american makes me sick!
Can't they just make something ORIGINAL for once?! Instead of making a remake of EVERYTHING they find! :/
NOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteThis blows. NO ONE will ever compare to Robert Sheehan. He is the only actor who can be a total tosser while still being likable. I really hope they make new characters and not stereotypical American versions of the characters.
ReplyDeleteHow about they make original characters for the US one and then some way down the line have both series' plots intertwine or just have crossover episodes. That'd be interesting. But remaking the same characters with different actors has obviously not worked (Being Human for instance). It tarnishes the original characters because no two actors will deliver in the exact same manner.
