Turns out, Ryan Murphy really did hear all of your (our) complaints about 'Glee''s uneven and generally not-so-great second season.
First, after yapping to basically every journalist on the Internet last summer, he stopped revealing every single plot twist and guest star and song selection. As much as I encourage giving scoop, you've got to leave something a surprise when the episodes finally air.
Then he went and hired a full-on writing staff, ensuring (hopefully!) that the third season might be able to maintain some sense of continuity or develop its many characters in multi-episode arcs and recurring storylines!
Now, Murphy is publicly stating that season 3 will not be the guest-star bonanza we've come to know. The 2011-2012 season is pulling a Christina and going back to basics. "We're not going to have any guest stars," Murphy told TVLine. "And we're going to do fewer songs."
There's also going to be just one big tribute episode. Just one. He promises. "It's one I've been working on for two years - it took forever to clear - with a really big artist," he told TVLine.
And that tired "Sue wants to destroy the glee club" storyline? It's over. "We did that, and we did that well. But now it's time for Sue to stop picking on the glee club and time for her to start picking on the country," Murphy told TVLine.
As for how 'The Glee Project' ties in to the show, Murphy revealed to TV Guide that the person who ultimately wins "is the person who she hates the most in the history of the show. ... 'The Glee Project' winner is Sue Sylvester's new archenemy and she is going to destroy their life."
Although Murphy maintained that the current New Directions members will, in fact, graduate at the end of the year, he hasn't ruled out a spinoff. That decision will be made in a few months, he said.

i would love a spin off with Rachel & Kurt in New York
ReplyDeleteit's just ... the singing has never been just singing ... it's as much part of their conversations / discussions as any statement simply made by talking. In fact, they show more of what they think and feel by singing than they'd ever do by just talking ... 'cause most of them feel saver this way ... so ... I ... don't get it. "less singing" ... I just don't get it. It seems weird. And it's really bugging me right now.
ReplyDeleteBut we'll see.
I just hope they'll hold on to the Cast as it is now (meaning: including Blaine and Lauren).
Geez, this just made the waiting until September more frustrating than it's already been.
The only thing they need to do to get back to being awesome is look at the first 13 episodes, before they got popular, when they had a story to tell, a full 13 episode story arc where every episode lead to the next and weren't just stand alone episodes.
ReplyDeleteNo more guest stars and songs that are relevant to the plot, not just "look at who's music we got this week".
And PLEASE, for the love of my ears, NO MORE ORIGINAL SONGS. They are beyond terrible.
I thought they sang to much at the end of season 2. the new york episode was crazy i want stories. And ryan said that after season 1 and season 2 wasnt affected that much by the statement ahaha.
ReplyDeletenothing is sure until the day it airs ahahah
I do think that some of the songs from season 2 seemed off and could have been left out, but then again that's what a Glee club is about ... performing ... I guess what would make me personally happy is if they found a way to include the songs more into the story again. Make them be more a part of a dialogue again (like in season 1) and less just performances (like some of the songs from season 2).
ReplyDeleteBut generally speaking, less songs sounds weird. Well. It's about a Glee club.
And yes, we won't know anything for sure until season 3 actually started airing ... we'll see how it turns out.
hoping blaine still in the show as i love the character and with kurt i can tell this alot the show was rushed just hope to see more airtime with them in it and spinoff sounds great with rachel blaine and kurt just like one last thing we cud see how the life turned for them
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously gonna be very disappointed if we don't get one.
ReplyDeleteI second the "no more original songs" request. Their best competition performance still remains the Journey medley. And I really regret they ditched My Chemical Romance for Loser Like Me as the anthem.
