CSI: Las Vegas - Casting News - Laurence Fishburne to Leave

After two-and-a-half seasons, Laurence Fishburne is leaving CSI. The Oscar-nominated actor's deal on the show was up and he opted not to renew it. He is expected to return to features full-time. It was a major coup for CBS to land Fishburne as a successor to original star William Petersen who left the series in December 2008. But when he last renewed his contract for CSI last May, Fishburne only did it for one season. After ten-and-a-half seasons as CBS' Thursday 9 PM anchor, CSI is moving to Wednesday 10 PM this fall. I hear CBS and the veteran crime drama's producers were not surprised by Fishburne's decision. "Nobody expected him to be on the show for 7 years, it's Laurence Fishburne," one insider said. Fishburne will next be seen in Steven Soderbergh's thriller Contagion.

    I respect Mr. Fishburne as an actor, I loved him in Matrix, but he just never fit in in CSI.. imo..

    Fisburne's performance was very good; I mostly liked him. I hope Grissom comes back or it will be interesting because Marg Helgenberger is expected to quit next season. If Grissom doesn't come back, producers will have to take a well-known and high quality actor like Fishburne. Actually, though being a bit old, Edward James Olmos would be a great choice. My other candidate would be Andy Garcia :). I'm so curious about next season's cast :)

    maybe nobody Catherine is already supervisor of the CSI Team so maybe they just won't bring in anyone new and they'll just have 1 less team member

    yes but Marg will leave CSI in the mid-season so I hope Petersen will be back as the supervisor
    Otherwise concerning Laurence Fishburne, I'm glad he is leaving because his character was boring and CSI became "The Ray Langston Show"

    Although I don't watch the show except one or two episodes here and there, I am interested to know who CBS will cast to replace him... CSI is known for stunt casting...

    Wow, a lot of upheaval in the series. I'm actually more disturbed by the news that they're moving the time slot it's always been in. I'm not upset about it moving to Wednesdays, but 10 pm? 
    I never really liked Lawrence Fishburne's character. He is a terrific actor, but the character they wrote for him was not really very interesting or one you really wanted to find out more about. 
    Marg Helgenberger is leaving? That really stinks. She has always been one of my favourites, though not so much this past season or two.
    I hate to say it, but I'm worried the show might come to an end in the near future. I sure hope not.
    I would also love to see a return of Grissom. He was what drew me to the show in the first place.

    With their ratings floundering, I doubt they have the budget for another big casting coup.  Shows as old as CSI are usually looking to cut costs, not add to them.

    For a new twist they ought to bring in Chandra West to be Marg Helenberger's sister or some relative, as they do resemble eash other quite well.
