Supernatural - Episode 6.04 - Weekend at Bobby's - Favorite Scene Poll
9 Apr 2011
Polls SupernaturalOne more week....time for the happy dance. While Supernatural will air a new episode next week (signal applause, big grins, and general joy), we did have Weekend at Bobby's tonight. A little odd that we did not get And then There Were None - can anyone explain that one? Still, WaB is one of the best episodes of this season for me. And no it isn't because Jensen Ackles directed it. It's because it had great insight on one of my favorite characters, lots of Crowley snark, and the debut of the funniest hunting partnership around - Rufus and Bobby. Plus, wood chipper trumps everything. For me the best scenes are Rufus and Bobby burying the okami, Bobby killing the okami with the wood chipper, and of course, his verbal smack down of the Winchester duo. They sorely needed someone to say it. So, what was your favorite part? Vote and sound off below.

Bobby's smackdown of Dean and Sam was the most needed and best scene in the episode to me. However, my favorite scene is Rufus and Bobby doing their Grumpy Old Hunters routine while they bury the okami. A close second is the wood chipper though.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Crowley wins hands-down in this episode as the snarkiest snarker to ever snark. Best effort wrist waving, "10 years as Alpo", his one-sided conversation with Bobby, needing AlkaSeltzer and talking about hell management problems, athletic calves, "...Moose, get bent." Crowley was on his A-game tonight, blowing by even Rufus' "wood chipper trumps everything" comment and Bobby's "I'll be damned if I'm going to sit around and be damned" remark.
So much awesomeness in one episode.
ReplyDeleteI've been in the garden today (it's 2pm Saturday here) and didn't rewatch. But I can't think of one single thing I disliked about WaB.
Bobby and Rufus together are so great - it's a shame they won't get their 'Grumpy Old Hunters' spin-off.
And Bobby and Crowley together snarking at each other - too funny. Shame we won't see any more of that - or maybe we will. Is Bobby in 'The Man Who Would Be King'?
Once again I'm probably going with the crowd - the woodchipper scene - Bobby's and Marcy's facial expressions still make me laugh. Pity woodchippers aren't more portable.
I wanted to vote for the scene of Bobby finally letting the boy's have it for their whining.
ReplyDeleteI like all the scenes with Bobby trying to have some of that Ginger Peach Cobbler. I have even tried to make one it looked so good. My next favorite scene is the gloriously gorey woodchipper, and never wear a white nightgown on SPN...just lookin for trouble. Honestly, all around it was a good ep. the writing was great and of course Jim/Booby did an amazing job. Frustration was the underlying emotion for this episode.
ReplyDelete'Grumpy old Hunters' will miss Rufus.They played off each other almost Dean and Sam will when they reach that age... ;}
ReplyDeleteThe remark "I'll be damned if..." is almost or as good as " Noba
ReplyDeleteody is going to kill me in my own house, but me" or something like that. Dahne and Jilly you guys can quote it better than I can!!!
I would have to vote for a combined scene: Dean and Sam torching the lamai while Bobby give 'mom' the recipe for the delicious 'roast'. I thought the way that ebbed and flowed was particularly well done. So can't vote for just one, but consider mine a vote for both. :) Sorry, Dahne. I felt like being difficult. One more week, one more week, one more week, EVERYBODY, one more week... :))))
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to feel that going without SPN or new episodes of SPN is like being deprived of air, food or sex for long periods of time. Or is this just me...
ReplyDeleteActually one of my favorite scenes isn't listed - when Bobby gives Sam and Dean a well deserved "talking to" and they realize they've been taking Bobby's help/trust/love for granted.
ReplyDeleteThe whole episode was fantastic and I couldn't find one thing to nitpick if I tried. I agree about never getting our "Grumpy old hunters" spinoff. RIP Rufus :(
ReplyDeleteThat's my favorite scene! I was thinking it's about time!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. I inadvertently left it out. Blame it on the allergy fog. I've added it so you should see it. If not, here is the poll's direct link:

Sorry. Living in a haze of sleep deprivation and allergy medicine. I had it on my lit but I missed it when I was typing. It should be on the poll now or try the direct link at http://poll.fm/2wgdu
ReplyDeleteThank you! I thought that was happened because it was such an important and poignant scene. I had already voted for another scene but as I said the entire episode was brilliant from start to finish!
ReplyDeleteI'm surly and have a beard... Gimme. The Crowley/ Bobby scenes were the best evah.. It's a pity that The Man Who Would Be King is supposed to be emotionally charged/ dark episode, because it would be fun to have an episode with more Crowley snark.
ReplyDeletefor me it was between teh awesome woodchipper scene and the awesome montage scene to the tune of the gambler which was done awesomely
ReplyDeletein the end i went with the woodchipper
best way to kill a monster...EVER!!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED FOR NEXT WEEK ITS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AM GONNA GO OFF NOW AND INDULGE MYSELF IN SEASON 6 EPISODES TO PREPARE MYSELF!!!!
After rewatching last night I really think this is the best overall episode of season 6. Of course I would have liked to see more Sam and Dean, but there were so many really funny scenes, and that's my favorite thing in SPN, and something I don't think has been consistent this season. The wood chipper scene...just priceless....Rufus talking with Bobby and swallowing the ring....Sam slamming into the post while Dean asks for the lamai-kill 'recipe'..Bobby giving careful instructions to 'saute and cook well' and Dean just throwing it on the lamai and torching it..Bobby's rant at the guys..just consistently great. It was also sweet to see the expressions on Bobby's face when Marcy was coming on to him...like he's so rusty at flirting..Jim B is just a little ol' doll!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite season 6 episode. I liked the wood chipper part the best, if only because the gore and Marcy's either "I don't think so" or "I don't think That's going to happen."
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. I loved Crowley's one-sided conversation. Made me laugh so hard I ached.
ReplyDeleteI think the humor is inconsistent this season too and I wish there was more of it, but at least we aren't sunk into a deep depression like last season. I like the overall more upbeat atmosphere. Well, as upbeat as you get with a soulless brother and a creature who makes monsters.
ReplyDeleteWood chipper is up there with Ruby's knife, angel sword, sawed-off, and pearl handled gun for me in favorite weapons of all. I love how this is one weapon I don't need a permit for and can buy at the local hardware store. Not seeing a bamboo dagger blessed by a Shinto priest in my future.
ReplyDeleteOf all the montages of this season (and is it me or have there been a lot of them), this is my favorite. It's funny and the music is perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a shame that they killed him off. They could have made a webisode season of Rufus and Bobby. I would totally watch that even though I avoid the Ghostfacer stuff like crazy. They could make it a summer thing during the dreaded hellatus.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. I wish Bobby had delivered this lecture last year.
ReplyDeleteNot just you. It's like that itchy feeling where you know something is wrong but you can't put your finger on it and it drives you mad. I love the older episodes but there's something about going through the week knowing you've got new Supernatural surprises to look forward to on Friday. Makes the week go by a whole lot faster.
ReplyDeleteI love the ending scene where Bobby is sitting down and about to scoop some ice cream in his mouth when he hears the phone ring. It sums up Bobby's life perfectly. Poor man.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see Crowley again. This episode was Crowley at his best this season. Loved seeing things from Bobby's point of view. Couple of things, though, that jumped out at me this time around.
ReplyDeleteFirst, Crowley made a comment suggesting that if Bobby burned Crowley's son's bones, it would send him to hell. So after all of the discussions about where ghosts go after they are burned - hell, heaven or purgatory - that seems to answer the answer - heaven or hell, but not purgatory. But it got me thinking that the same must follow for demons because they are also souls of dead people who found their way back to the earth. They also must be sent back to hell. In the earlier seasons, it seemed difficult for demons to escape from hell (i.e., the devils gate). I wonder if Crowley and upper level demons could move freely from hell to earth. If that's true, than sending him back to hell again wouldn't have much effect. Or maybe Crowley, since we've known him, has been a demon who was only above ground. But then how could he become King of Hell if he wasn't in hell?
Second (warning, mini brother rant here), Bobby's need to pull Sam over the phone to cus him out too bugged me a little because Sam has a different personality than Dean. Since the pilot, Dean was drawn as the character with snark who can be disrespectful to authority figures (the scene with the cop in the pilot and with Missouri in Home), whereas Sam says please, thank you, has puppy dog eyes, and could blend at Stamford. We don't see Sam getting snarky and demanding with Bobby the way we see Dean do, so it left me wondering if the writers too have forgotten who Sam is, or whether Bobby can't differentiate between the two. But we know Bobby can, because he said he likes Dean better. :-p
You know, even though 5 was dark, I think I enjoyed it more than this season so far. This season has just seemed so inconsistent overall...that didn't keep me from gluing myself to the TV for every epi, though. I think some of the 'feel' that attracted me to the show in the first place is just gone for good, maybe because Kripke's not in it so much, but I think it has more to do with the show's age...the boys aren't boys anymore. Things have to change. I guess this season has been one of transition, to new writers and trying to figure out where and how to take the story, taking into account that the Winchesters are now MEN, not boys. I have a feeling Season 7 will be more consistently excellent. BUT...even on a bad day, I think SPN beats just about everything else out there.
ReplyDeleteThe verbal smackdown!
ReplyDeleteBecause nobody gives it as good as Bobby and because these two idjits had it coming. Loved Bobby´s speach to no end. And he was on a roll when Dean tried to interrupt him. The few seconds of silence afterwards showed that he caught the Winchesters unprepared. You go Bobby!
"because these two idjits had it coming.'
ReplyDeleteJust curious which scenes between Bobby and Sam you were thinking of that made you think Sam deserved a smackdown. I'm not saying that Dean hasn't been whiny and self-centered, and I'm not saying that Sam doesn't have faults, but they're different faults than Dean's. I was trying to think of a scene in which Sam acted disrespectful toward Bobby that would warrant being pulled into this smackdown and couldn't come up with any. I was wondering if you had something in mind.
there have been a lot of montages this season
ReplyDeletefor me the best is close one between this montage and the season opener montage with dean
i loved that one
it made me cry (i get very emotional in this show, sometimes for no reason)
Yeah - those boys love Bobby, and they treat him just like a family member ie: taking him for granted. He does research for them, provides a refuge, always has their backs, and tells it like it is. They sometimes remember to thank him, and sometimes they don't. Just like family.
ReplyDeleteAnd just like family, sometimes they need a wake up call. I agree: 'You go Bobby'
Loved that one too. Another one they got perfect music for. I really liked the kitchen scenes when they were doing breakfast. It had that cozy, well-tuned family vibe. Dean needed that.
ReplyDeleteThey still are young lol . Not 20 or that but Jensen is only 33 and Jared i think 28-29 . I know you dont mean that they are old men lol , but they still have the right to chat up girls and etc do young stuff . Although i dont see them going to raves that much . As for this not being as good as 5 , i think its because Sara is just getting comfortable . I mean the seconded half of SPN is better than the first .x
ReplyDeleteI hadn´t any particular scene in mind just the overall treatment of Bobby. Like Jilly put it so good together. They treated him for granted. But that´s family, I guess. I didn´t mean to sound like I am angry with the boys, just that sometimes - like Bobby said - they should realize, that they are not the centre of the universe (of course for us they are...but that´s another story).
ReplyDeleteIt is a little bit like they treat Cas. They expect the angel of the Lord to show up when called and are angry when he doesn´t.
The "idjits" reference was only to quote Bobby and more of a loving-caring-somethimes wanting to hug them-somtimes wanting to slap them behind their heads-kind of thing.
I realize I sound like I'm taking this far more seriously than I really am. Me getting really anal retentive over something like this is a sign that I need to get out of the house, but anyway, back to Supernatural ...
ReplyDeleteTruth is I laughed the first time I heard it because I took it as one of those quasi-meta moments when they step out of the plot. Sam and Dean are the center of the universe because they're the leads of the show!
But anyway, my original point was that Dean and RoboSam address Bobby and Cas with a very entitled tone sometimes, but souled Sam generally doesn't. It's just not how his character was written. But we can disagree on that.
But to the point of them acting true to family dynamics, there was also that moment when Sam says that if Bobby needs their help, he just has to ask - and you realize that Bobby's throwing a temper tantrum over not getting the help he needs, but he never told them he needed help. That's also typical in a family. When Bobby did need help (the dreams episode, the one where his wife came back as a zombie, and the raising of the witnesses), Sam and Dean were there to back him up.
OK, I agree with you there. Bobby should have asked for help. He never does, the stubborn, grumpy, old man. Sounds familiar? I wonder sometimes, if he isn´t secretly a Winchester ;)
